Bidding helper - hotwire easy view doesn't show up anything for the 4 star? Thanks
  2. I purchased the Dorsett directly with a promo being offered. Thanks so much for your help on this though.
  3. Thanks - checked all the rates again - def coming up as $119US for me for the first one so not sure how you can get $96!! :)
  4. Thanks - none of these were actually any good and playing around with it ended up booking Ovolo Noho going through Expedia To confirm I did click on the PRICELINE links to do my checking (more than once..!). Thanks so much
  5. Thanks - I switched it over from AUD to US and that's what it gave me. Will either chose the Dorsett or M Hotel - kinda hard to make up my mind over the small difference. Trip advisor seems to have slightly better reviews for the Dorsett though.

  8. Yes the quote I copied that day from USA. We have decided to book directly with the Granbell Shibuya for now (it's always the cheapest to go direct with some of these Japanese smaller chain hotels), we have stayed there before and for a room with 21.X sqm and queen bed for Y53400 3 nights, free wifi (not that it matters much, we always have a cell modem with us) and free breakfast, super close location to everything. We've stayed there before. It's free cancel no cc deposit so I can take a bit more time thinking about a better deal from bidding without worrying about being homeless! The Cerulean is nice, but I think a room on the lower floor gets no gym amenities, no breakfast, no free internet, just seemed like a lot to pay for a fancy view (which we won't get much time to see anyway given we're always out and about in Tokyo with no time to barely sleep)! Having looked through the interwebs and thought about it further, I think I would need to spend a longer time in tokyo (and slower pace of travelling) to enjoy a further location of Park Hyatt etc Thanks so much for your help though.
  9. Oct 1 - Oct 4 Yes I'm aware about the 'any hotel' - it was just my thought processes on what zones I could possibly bid on. On Hotwire: Book soon! The last person got the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel. SECRET HOT RATE HOTEL Shibuya - Meguro area 95% recommended $704 total for your stay Facilities Indoor pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Internet access Accessibility Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower That seems to the only active listing on Hotwire, the other ones keep saying the itinerary is gone.. On Priceline, I think the only area we are happy with bidding - Shibuya (it even goes to 4 star - ok for this area). Not 100% yet if I'd risk a 5* bid on Shinjuku hoping that it's the park hyatt..
  10. Thanks. We've actually taken a look at this, and we'd like to stay at any modern 5 star (preferences are Park Hyatt, Conrad or Andaz), and just a little bit special because this is probably going to be the last big trip we're going to have for quite some time. To clarify my thinking, there are some like the Dai-ichi on the hotel says it's 5 star, but it really isn't. Going off the better bidding lists, we also couldn't do the Intercontinental Tokyo Bay (too far), prince sakura (doesn't seem 4.5 stars to me), prince park tower (also doesn't seem very 4.5) The other choice we were looking at staying at is cerulean tower tokyu hotel, which I think are the following: (a) (given my knowledge of the area) either the 4 star in Shibuya on priceline, or ( B) on hotwire http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=181488 On the question of bidding, i can see that the only rebid zones on 5 star are Shibuya, Tokyo - Takanawa, and Narita which only go up to 4. The preferred areas for bidding would be Shinjuku at 5 (I think this is the park hyatt), Ginza - I think the CBD area doesn't work because it includes the Intercontinental Tokyo Bay. The budget we're looking at though is about $200 a night all inclusive. Any ideas? I know I am being picky, but I've looked through a lot of candid traveller pics and know my way around Tokyo and given that we only have 4 days there being in a central location is important. I have my 'go to default' hotels that works out to be roughly $200 (e.g. Granbell chains, Toyoko inn or Dormy Inn chains). Thanks!
  11. Hi Are the stars that are listed in the 'PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal' the same star level as the ones that are in the normal listings? I'm asking because I see a 5* rate for $408 in the Shinjuku Ikebukero area, and there is only 1 5* hotel in the usual named hotels listing. we are looking to stay at the Park Hyatt sometime in October. I haven't worked out which dates yet. PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal is coming in at $408 going rate is $583 per night on PRICELINE. Hotel non refundable rate is Y54450 (535 us) I would be interested to know if this was probably a 'sure thing'. Have had a search around and can't seem to see if anyone else has successfully bid or used a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal.
  12. Hi, just an update. I used your bidding technique and got up to $205, and didn't get any success. I played around with the $210, but at that price including taxes etc, I knew I'd end up with fees that were more than what i was willing to stump up. IN regards to the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals, there was the 3.5* LES hotel which ended up the $1123.08 (taxes inclusive) for 4 nights. Now with a 7% discount code via [another site] (found that on flyertalk), it would have been $1073, .. and then after I converted that to AUD, I would have ended up at about $1140 at today's rates (lucky enough to have a good conversion travel cc that only does the international conversion rates which are pretty good). So I ended up using a code that is on Hotels..com expiring today, and got the Wyndham non refundable rate for $1135.71 AUD, which is $1068 US at today's rates. Not only that I would have also got points on a using different credit card. I pretty much went through a bunch of sites and playing around with codes, and the Hotels.com with the code was the cheapest. It helped they had an Australian component of the site so there wasn't a ridiculous conversion rate from US to AUD (I played around with that too so I noticed they didn't hike up the prices). It ended up being cheaper than the IHG family and friends rate for the Holidays Inn chain too. Thank you so much for your help! I'm a bit bummed I didn't end up with much success this time! ps I used all the PRICELINE links on this board
  13. Thanks, will use the links on this board. Will keep you posted.
  14. Sorry, yes I think I am looking at $180 a night then. I'm leaving late on the 9th, but I am seeing that the Monday is the most expensive... I think we are right there smack bang in the middle of fashion wk and the US Open
  15. ps, can't seem to find the edit button for the post above I gave the bids above $150 and still no avail. The reason why I am looking specifically at the Wyndham Chinatown, and perhaps the Holiday Inn Soho is for their location and close to subway (and they are currently the cheapest rates on the express/ hotwire deals and on other sites) and near my old stomping ground. Of course anywhere near a good subway is good, but I think some areas are taking too many chances. We've also re-looked at our options and the first preference is that Lower east side (but holiday inn LES is too far). There are some odd hotels (blue moon?) at 3 stars LES on the express deals which doesn't look that great. I read through a few older posts and realised that some Midtown East ones will be way to far to walk from subway, and some of the other areas (esb) may be a bit of a no man's land.. so I apologise for all the effort that went into that search, but having spent some time going through up to 140 i'm not sure if it would work out in a positive way given the change of heart in area, and the fact that that there seems to be so many meh 3* hotels around..! So If i wre to change this to LES, Soho/ Tribeca at from 3.5 stars upwards about $200 - 210 a night (incl of taxes), is that really quite limited in what I can find? I am willing to go up to $240 - $250 inclusive of all taxes.
  16. Thanks, I will dedicate some time to have a look at this (I think would need an hour... the search engine is so slow!) I was looking at the Wyndham Garden non refundable rate of 1066 incl of all tax on Hotels.com (with a 10% discount code). Do you think that there is any chance I can get any hotel cheaper than this in this search sequence (noting it's a 3.5 star not a 3)?
  17. Thanks, should have gone for the 5% discount when I had the chance. 4* was Sir Francis Drake at $177. Thanks very much for the help.
  18. No luck at all on the bid up to 138. Are the 3 stars any good in the same areas? (there doesn't seem to be as many zones for rebid... Would you have any idea what this hotel 4 star is?
  19. just working on this now, as I type The priceline machine is very 'slow' yes still same objective
  20. Yes, completely fine with tiny rooms! I go to Japan a lot, so I'm very much used to tiny. I can live with the small room if it's the Hudson.
  21. Thanks - given the time differences I'll have to resort to the bidding strategy!
  22. Hi there, Thanks for your reply. I can deal with 3* stars - the 2* ones look a bit dicey in terms of luck of the draw. I know my way pretty well around NYC as I used to live there so I'm not over fussed Areas: Central Park South Chelsea Empire State building area Lower east side Midtown East Midtown West, Soho-Tribeca Times Square - Theatre District Union Square - East Village
  23. Thanks, I'm in Australia so it's forcing it to be in AUD, and definitely $147 isn't the $190 it's saying when I go to your link! I just played around with it and it is coming up as $177 US instead of $147US. Do you know if there is a reason why it's doing that?
  24. Hi I'm looking for a NYC place for now more than $200 a night on my stay. Areas I'm ok with is anywhere in Manhattan (no brooklyn or LIC), but not UWS or UES. Given all the different star ratings I'm not sure where I should start. $200 a night is roughly where I am happy to live with. I am not sure if this is too ambitious. I have access to family and friend rates in manhattan with one of the hotel chains that takes it to roughly $230 / 240 a night with brands like Holiday Inn etc. in a more central part of town. p.s. I'm working on the SF hotels on another thread, will keep updating on that one. Sorry to ask for more than 1 thread.
