  1. Went on to PRICELINE and started bidding on 5 Star South Strip. Started at $70 for the above dates and moved up in one to two dollar increments while adding non 5 Star zones. Got through all 11 zones and no go at $87. Went back in and started again at $88 and added zones. Got to $105. And nobody bit. I see that 5 Star South Strip hotels are going for in or around $140-150 on HOTWIRE. I can't be too far off on somebody biting. But don't know if I want to spend that. I have a tentative booking at the Hard Rock for $106 per night from their website. We shall see. I may try to bid again over next few days.

  2. You were right! I got the Pan Pacific for $156 for the 24th and 25th of Sept. Great hotel that was going for $206 on Hotels.ca. Tried getting a 4 Star in Pike Place downtown on PRICELINE and went up to $155 for my bid. Was rejected. Prices seem to be higher for this weekend. It happens. And my travel dates are not flexible. So I took this one and am happy for it. Thanks for the info.

  3. Looking to stay in Las Vegas for following dates: Aug 5-8th. Hotwire has a 4.5 star for $125 per night on strip north wit following ammenities:

    Casino

    Fitness Center

    Pool

    restaurants

    business center

    high speed internet access

    golf nearby

    tennis nearby

Anyone have any ideas on this one?

    thanks in advance

I have noticed that it has jumped to $145 over the last hour. Would also like help id a 4 star near strip east for same dates with following ammenities:

    casino

    smoke free rooms

    fitness center

    pool

    restaurants

    business centre

    high speed internet access

    golf nearby

Any thoughts as to which one this might be? I am thinking that the first one mentioned above on the strip is a match for Caesars? And that this one is The Hard Rock? Would this be correct?

    thanks!!!

  4. Did not act on this one fast enough. Watched the rate jump from $195 to $199 to $209 then up to $214 and lastly $217 in a matter of two days. It then dropped backed down to $209 US. Rather than tempt fate I booked. It was in fact the Westin and I got it for $209 for 4 nights. I am quite pleased with this rate as it is going for $335 Canadian on Expedia and Hotels.ca for those same dates. Thanks for the insight on this one!

  5. Hey thanks for the prompt reply! Curious about one thing: What if any is the cancellation policy with Hotwire? In the event of illness or something where the trip gets cancelled. Does the standard cancellation policy apply or can I purchase cancellation insurance with my booking? Or is that not an option because of the deal you get with booking with Hotwire?

  6. Can anyone identify this hotel for me? 4 Star in Paris with following ammenities:

    1. Fitness Centre

    2. Restaurants

    3. Business Centre

    4. Laundry Facilities

    5. High Speed Internet Access

This hotel is in the Louvre-Marais area. Price is $195. Travel is from Aug 19th-23rd. I saw where a previous Hotwire win with these amenities and similar price (different dates) was the Westin. I would be very happy with this property. Can anyone confirm or does it look like it could be something else? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I went back and looked at the Hotwire site from this site....as you will likely ask me to do....sorry did not do so in first place. Got same hotel and everything as described above.

  8. My wife and I are traveling to Paris, Rome and Florence from Aug 19th to August 30th.

    Paris Aug 19th-23rd

    Rome Aug 23-26th

    Florence Aug 26-30th

I have been reading some reviews of hotels and also seen in Rick Steves books that August is the off season and is dead in these parts of Europe. As such there are hotel deals to be had supposedly. I am wondering if it would be wiser to wait until closer to the travel dates to use Priceline? If this is in fact the off season and hotels are likely to have room would it not be in my best interest to wait until closer to the date to secure a deal? Does anybody know the situation with Europe in August and would this in fact be a good strategy? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

  9. Ended up trying a few times over the last few days with no luck on PRICELINE. Worked up from $50 to $80 and was rejected even while adding zones. Came back today being Sunday the 14th and noticed that another traveler had won the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center for $81 on Priceline over the same period that we are traveling. So I figured $81 was the magic number. Started at $70 and was rejected. Added a zone and $5 and was rejected again. Added another zone and $6 making it that magic $81 and low and behold my bid was accepted at the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center. Looks like a nice prop and has some good reviews on TripAdvisor. Looking forward to it!
