Baby, Baby! :) Wow, you went to a lot of work explaining a strategy for this! And it paid off! I started at MTW for 3* and bid $140.00 and got rejected. I added Upper West Side and bid $150 and got ACCEPTED and they gave me a 4* Hotel. I won the Marriott Marquis in Times Square! Rack rate of over $450 for those same nights. And I couldn't find anything on Hotwire for under $270 for a 3.5* and I was ready to take it! Let's see - 2 nights, 2 rooms, savings of at least $120/room - that adds up to at least a $480 (not including taxes) savings. Wow again! Thank you so much! Now we can go see a great show in NY!

Sure - I would be willing to use Priceline and accept either a 3* or 4* hotel. I am also looking for 2 rooms for 1 person each.

Thanks so much for your time and your response. That was very kind. I went to the Savingbarn site, and I went through the DC areas as suggested at the prices suggested for a 3*. I then repeated it for a 2.5*, even going up to $65 at the end. I then tried the Maryland suburbs in the same process. No luck. I then tried the Northern Virginia suburbs and no luck at both 3* and 2.5*. After looking at the hotels with a 2* rating in No. VA, I decided they appear acceptable, so I bid $58 for a 2* and was finally accepted. Here are the details. View complete amenity list and description 4* - $69 (it was first $64, but I had fix a date and when I refreshed, it changed to $69) Here is the Hotel and price info Westgate Park City 3000 The Canyons Resort Drvie Park City, UT 84098 Hotel for 10/8/04 1 room(s) @ $69.00 per night x 1 night(s) $69.00 Taxes and fees: $14.95 Hotel Subtotal $83.95 Total Price $83.95 I found another reservation price for this hotel for $79 plus tax, so maybe I only saved $10-$15, but PL only had 3* hotels available and this was for my wife's birthday, so I had to jump at the 4* room. Park City is beautiful in the fall - you avoid the crowds, the leaves are beautiful and there is still a ton to do, even if there is no snow yet. I would expect this rate to be much different once the ski resorts open. This hotel is located at the base of The Canyons Ski Resort.

Thanks, I started out with Greenbelt and Bethesda and added Arlington Pentagon, Arlington Mt. Vernon on the next bid, and then on the next bid, I added all locations. I think that is where I should have been more patient and added more locations more slowly. I sure appreciate the forums! I have been using HW and PL for years and I have learned a bunch at your site that will definately help my future bookings.

I am looking for 2 rooms in the DC area (DC, VA, or MD) for October 26-29. I started at $48 for 3* with some of the MD areas that had been listed here, but I think I added too many areas as I rebid the next few times. I ended my bid at $60 but still no hotels accepted. Any guidance would be much appreciated. I can't find anything on Hotwire for a 3* under $110 and nothing for a 2.5* under $96. I have seen that there have been bids won in this range posted here, but maybe I need to bump my bids up more? Thanks!

Thanks for the previous post about the priceline bid for Williamsburg. I had checked out Hotwire for October 29, 2004 and the cheapest I could find for a 3* was $98 in the area. Because of the post, I went to PL and bid $50 for 2 rooms each for 1 night and was accepted. My area was Downtown Williamsburg and I got the same hotel, the Fort Magruder Radisson Hotel. Thanks!
