  1. Used PRICELINE Link

Pricelines nightly rate has dropped - now Conrad Centennial $168 and Hilton Singapore $194 (drop by 20%). Their B & B rates are really good too.

Plus taxes & charges in Singapore at about 17.?%.

Inspired by member Collin Hack's latest successful bid......

Bid Singapore Marina Bay 5* starting at $80 adding all other areas except Bugis and Orchard $95 - no luck.

So logged out and had my husband try

Bid Singapore Marina Bay 5* $101 - won the Hilton Singapore - a good hotel good price.........pleased but its not Marina Bay.

So, I'm thinking....I'm sure I bid Marina Bay - then the doubt - Did i make a mistake? - I don't think so. Priceline does say for the time frame the best deal is on Orchard Rd. Did they just pop in this Orchard Rd hotel? If I had typed in Orchard Rd originally would I have got the Hilton at $80?

I'm happy with this lovely hotel but as we have a further 5 night stay 13/18th (weekdays) to book I would like Marina Bay area. I have sent priceline an email query trying to find out some info so I can get a Marina Bay Hotel. ....

    No reply yet.........48 hours later?

For everyone info the maps on Priceline for Singapore are way out! - make sure you check out the hotels EXACT location on tripadvisor!!! I have told PRICELINE many times - however i think they like the confusion - especially for people who have never been there. Map shows some hotels on the side of Africa?

So I would love the other 5 nights at Conrad Centennial - maybe its wise to wait until the best deal shows Marina Bay 5* however our $AU is so strong at the moment and with the 20% per price drop....................

I am considering getting the PRICELINE B & B nightly rate plus the killer taxes......however it is still early days.........but the time frame is school holidays......and we are travelling with a couple who have a baby we want the full 5 nights at one hotel.

On Tripadvisor Conrad Centennial is about No 3 hotel and Hilton is about 20+ in popularity... although its generally a lesser rate maybe it requires a higher bid than for the Hilton to win it?

Questions, Questions, Questions! I know I have raved on but maybe my experience may be of some interest to other bidders............

    Cheers M :)

Ps there is always other travel sites..... MariMari and WEGO that are worth a look.................

  2. My stay 13th March 11 to 21 March 11. There appears to be 5 star hotels showing in the bidding area for Marina Bay at Singapore$149 or approx $US110. I am not sure if this is an average price or a price that a hotel has been won at? The site offers really good hotels in the 5 star range in that area. Can anyone offer any advice as to what to bid to secure a popular hotel. The only one I am not keen on is the Intercontinental - its just not my style of hotel - very traditional....I am guessing that this may be the base hotel or perhaps the Grand Park City Hall - although the rates show that the Fairmont for my stay is coming up at a very cheap retail price and is a good hotel.....

Any ideas anyone..... I'm a bit frustrated with the wins on the Priceline US site - seems you can only win a night or 2 here and there..................

    Cheers :)

  3. :) Tried again for Singapore today - both weekends and weekdays different dates combinations logging in and out - both my husband and i tried and used all combinations - bid up to $107.

It is school holiday time in Singapore - there are also conventions booked the week before and the week after our stay - I would like to get just part of the booking organized. I will try again in another couple of weeks.

  4. Oops! After my last mammoth session on the 22nd July where I got creative & used every possible combination I bid upto $97(which was more than i wanted to go to - however I can afford it) without any luck I was sent $30 by priceline to use by the 25th. I was dumb and only just checked this email yesterday - too late to use the coupon....

So... what to do now? I am thinking that prob $106/107 using the coupon would have bought three nights out of my 8 required ...... I believe I can contact customer service from this email address beg nicely for the coupon again........maybe I might be sent the $30 again or do I wait , prices will probably come down........ its still 7 months till the accom is needed - March.......... also I don't want to spoil it of other BB members by taking the price up too high..........

I'm a bit cross with myself - no prizes for being stoopid!

    Any thoughts......

  5. PS

I think you will find that in Singapore hotel rooms are a fairly good size unless you are booking budget rooms. I think the Conrad and the Hilton as well as the Pan Pac standard rooms are about 40 square metres. The Swissotel are about 28 and the Marina Mandarin start at about 32. In a 4 or 5 star hotel in Singapore generally children under 12 years of age are allowed to share existing bedding in a room without extra charge so if you book a room you may wish to request a double/double room whish is usually is 2 queen size beds in a room. My son was able to share a triple room with us in Singapore many years ago and he was 13. Just send an enquiry email to the hotel before bidding and make sure your girls can share a room with you. Sometimes a hotel will charge a nominal fee like $30SG for an extra person in a room.

FYI Holiday Inn has newly refurbished family rooms and is a pretty good deal if you can't get a good deal via bidding. They have their own website.

  6. Tried all date combos

    Mon 14 to 17

    14 to 16

    Fri 18 to 21 Mon

    18 to 20

    Sat 19 to 21

Thur 17 to 21 under my name and email and CC and under my husbands email & CC - didn't do single days

Used both Marina Bay and Orchard plus 3 rebid zones - up to 97 - Got in and out of the PL site and got as many free bids as possible logged onto PL each time from BB

    NO LUCK AT ALL :)

    I'll try again next month!

  7. Hi PamelaJean,

Firstly don't panic. I have been to Singapore many times over the last 36 odd years. It is one of the safest places on this planet! I would walk any back street in Singapore and not be worried. Chinatown in SG is one of the cleanest Chinatowns in the world. Singaporeans don't tolerate crime. If you break the law you are in jail!

My fully refundable back up deal just in case! I got a rate of 184US a night on otels.com for the Pan Pac for 13 to 21st March 2011 which included the Singapore taxes payable on all hotel rooms (11% + a further 7% per SG dollar for each night stayed)and buffet breakfasts. I have not checked whether priceline includes the SG taxes in their tarrif or not. If you haven't paid the fees when you book the hotel will charge you when you pay your bill.

You will love SG. Both Marina Bay and Orchard Rd are really great places to stay. Just check Tripadvisor for reviews if you are considering a hotel. I have stayed at the Marina Mandarin, Swissotel Stamford, the Fairmont and the Merchant Court and many years ago the Orchard Parade on Orchard Rd(its old and jaded) My daughter stayed at the Park Hotel City Hall which is a little older now but still pretty good. Location wise IMO Swissotel/Fairmont is the perfect location because they are over the MRT (magic fast train that takes you anywhere!)

    Also everyone loves the Oriental.....

    Cheers

    M :)

  8. Thanks Thereuare,

We have our flights booked. I will start bidding over this weekend. I am tempted to just bid for the 7 nights all at once - Marina Bay area however I will go with your advice. I will definately be

BOOKING THROUGH THE PRICELINE link at Better Bidding is BB isthe best!

It appears that Fri & Sat are the cheaper nights at these hotels.

Current rates at the time are 209 Centennial and 279 for Hilton and about that for the Marriott. Is this about right?

    Matty :)

  9. Hi Everyone,

It seems there are quite a few wins on the board in Singapore at the Conrad Centennial, Hilton Singapore & Marriott. We arrive early hours Monday morning Changi airport at 2.50am. 2 couples and a baby. We favour the Marina Bay area preferably then Orchard Rd. Have read every post on here so have taken onboard advice re: splitting the booking.

I thought that we would book leave first night(morning hours - maybe even get a 2 cheap rooms at the airport) till last - we do need to get to a hotel asap as we have a baby. Thought I would try booking 4 nights - Mon 14, Tues 15, Wed 16, Thurs 17 then try another booking for Friday,18, Sat 19, Sun 20 in a second booking.

We would love to get the Centennial in one or both bookings but the Hilton Singapore/or Marriott would also be great. Hoping to keep it under $100. Thought I would leave it till about October November to bid. Good idea or maybe earlier or later?

We have stayed in SG quite a few times but never in March. There doesn't seem to be much on and we appear to miss a trade show the week before.

Any info and advice from fellow travellers would be greatly appreciated. Happy travelling to all!

    Matty :)

  10. I placed a bid for a 4 star property at $80. I was given a one time offer to go up $22 to $102 so... I increased the bid by a quarter - I offered $86 - the reply was come up $22 - so I took the alternative and made a change to include 3 star hotels. It was stated that there was not much chance of winning it at $80 but a chance at $85 - so I offered $82 and was refused.

So I think that maybe $85 or a bit over might buy a $3 star. So I think I will try again in a day or two.

  11. I really wanted the NH Brussels City Centre because of its location near the Palace as we are staying only a day.

I logged into priceline from this site.

The latest successful bid on priceline was $75 however previously it was $57 which was won by a betterbidding member for June.

The lowest deal I could find was E72 for the night of the 15th August which is approx $96 so......I took a chance and hoped I didn't end up further out and bid at $57. I got a once off offer to lift the bid to $74... had a feeling it was the NH so I just took it.

Very happy, good hotel, good price, perfect location.

Thanks for the info fellow bb members have submitted.

    Cheers,
