  1. Tough weekend for hotels in this area due to NYU new parent weekend, but got a pretty good deal. Advertised rate for Jade Hotel is $495, Expedia special rate is $436, so $325 is actually good ;( Bid history was: $250, rejected add rebid zone, $275, rejected add rebid zone, $300, rejected add rebid zone, $325, won. There were 9 rebid zones for a 4* hotel so getting it in four bids wasn't bad. Clearly, the 'real' price is probably between $300 and $325, so you might try $310, $315, $320 if you want to do better. Used PRICELINE link here at BB to make the purchase.
  2. I first tried to get a good deal on Price.line for these dates, but, using re-bid zones, bid all the way from $130 to $180 without winning, so I figured for about the same money I could have the slightly better confidence that Hotwire provides (especially since we had 3 in our room and Hot.wire will let you specify that while Price.line won't). I was hoping Hotwire might provide a hint of which hotel this was, which they sometimes do ("the last bidder got the Xxxx Hotel"), but no luck. Anyway I was very pleased with this hotel, I'm a Starwood Gold member so they will likely provide an upgrade or other extra perks. Very good price for NYC - I guess "summer in the city" is a good time for better prices. Used HOTWIRE link to make the purchase.
  3. Started with this bid based on prior experience but didn't expect to win because retail prices much higher ($85) and even hotline and priceline deals were over $65. However, won this on the first try. I bet they would have accepted $40. Used PRICELINE link.
  4. I'm in the market for the same area on Oct 6-8, and I wouldn't mind taking the Express Deal at $259 if it's the Westin. It says it is a 4* Midtown East hotel with pool, restaurant, fitness center and business center. I don't see a pool on their website, so maybe it's something else. Do you have a tool for figuring out which amenities suggest which hotels are being sold? PS - was I supposed to start a new thread for this question? So I just found your BiddingHelper.com tool - I hadn't scrolled down to the bottom of the hotel list. HOWEVER, I still don't see a 4* hotel in this area with a pool - any idea what it is? Now I see the UN Millenium Hotel with a pool. So I guess that's it.
  5. Made a bunch of bids over the last two days with no luck. Had seen 5* wins around $171 recently, but could get nothing of the kind. Bid for 5* hotels in City Hall, Bugis, and Orchard, by using 8 rebid zones each, which allowed me to make 27 bids per night. Started all bids around $140, went up $10 per rebid. Got up to $210 in City Hall, $200 in Bugis (then up to $241 in Bugis the following day), and $229 in Orchard Road. Also bid on 4* hotels in a few areas and got up to $171. Finally gave up and bought an Expedia special rate on the 4.5* Swissotel for $202. Priceline didn't work this time, oh well.
  6. Started bidding at $30, raised bid 4 times by $3 each time, won when I got to $42. Dallas has loads of re-bid zones, even for 3.5 star hotels (I had 14 re-bid zones to choose from). This is a property I was hoping for because it has free parking so no hidden charges. Used PRICELINE link at better bidding to make purchase. Crowne Plaza Dallas Market Center 7050 Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247 | Check-In: Sat, Dec 22, 2012 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out: Sun, Dec 23, 2012 / 12:00 PM Rooms: 1 room
  7. Interesting win - didn't know this hotel was available. Was expecting the Marriott based on recent wins. Used the PRICELINE link here to begin bidding. Bid history: I wanted to stay in Irvine but had no luck getting a good price there (bid up to $70 for a 4* which is higher than other folks' wins), and so I realized the prices were much lower in Anaheim because the season is over there. Bid $60 at first, got $69 counteroffer. I don't accept counteroffers because it means you're within a few dollars anyway, so I added a re-bid zone and bid $63, and got it.
  8. Was hoping to book a room in downtown Chicago (either Loop or River North) for Sept 20-22, but prices are too high. I started bidding at $55 for a 4*, which is available often, and used 6 re-bid zones, three days in a row, to bid all the way up to $175, without luck. Now I'm sniffing around other sites, like Lastminutetravel.com, and I don't have a deal yet. As always, I started my bidding from the PRICELINE link at the top right of the BetterBidding screen.
  9. Seems like this hotel is always available at exactly $62, though I tried to get it for less. I started at $45 and used 5 re-bid zones before I won at $62. A heck of a deal though for a 4*, particularly right inside the airport. The Hyatt usually goes for less, about $55, but that is off-site so costs you at least 30-45 minutes of sleep to get on the right shuttle to safely make your flight. Used the PRICELINE link on this forum to bid and purchase. Rooms: 1 Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $62.00 Taxes & Fees: $17.19 Total Charged to Card: $79.19
  10. Started bidding at $41, used 6 re-bid zones to get up to $55, when it was accepted. So $55 is probably the lowest price this hotel is offering right now (previous bid was $52). Used PRICELINE link here to make the purchase.
  11. Fairly happy with this easy win, although I think I could have done better. Prices were $89 a room and I figured I could get it for $45-55. Didn't get around to making a bid yesterday and got an email last night from Priceline telling me someone had gotten a room for $55. Since Yuma has no re-bid zones, I figured I'd just make the $55 bid instead of starting a $45 and taking a couple of days, since I really needed to button this up. Anyway, got it on the first bid for $55.
  12. 4* DC (White House - Downtown), UNSUCCESSFUL BIDS 9/22/11 - 9/23/11 Bid $110 for 4*, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $120, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $130, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $140, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $150, rejected But I knew I could stay at BWI, where I'm flying in, for $129, so decided to try some low bids for BWI next - those attempts are posted on the Baltimore section. Used PRICELINE link to start bidding.
  13. In case this is of assistance to anyone trying to get hotels by BWI airport: This is for tomorrow night, sometimes harder to get a good deal one day away. Knew I could stay at Comfort Suites or La Quinta for $124,129 so was not going to bid that much for an unknown hotel for Priceline. Used PRICELINE link to start bidding Bid $45 for 3.5*, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $55, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $65, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $75, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $85, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $95, rejected Then lowered star to 3*, bid $55, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $65, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $75, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $85, rejected Then lowered star to 2.5*, bid $65, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $75, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $85, rejected At this point I went back and bid $105 and $115 for the 3.5* since I had two re-bid zones left, rejected both times. So I decided to go with a purchase on the regular priceline retail site for the Comfort Suites 2* for $129, because I knew they have a free shuttle and will take you to the MARC station for free also.
  14. No luck on hotels for this night, even though excellent prices had been recently won for the previous nights (9/10 and 9/11). Bid on 4* Millenium Park $79, rejected Added six re-bid zones at $10 higher each bid, all rejected. Then closed browser, and bid on 4* in NMA River North $75, rejected Added six re-bid ones at $10 higher each time, all rejected. Then changed star level to 3.5* for NMA River North, started at $75, rejected Added four re-bid zones, $10 higher each time, all rejected. I already knew I could get a 3.5* at Expedia Deals for $118, so I gave up on Priceline at that point. On Expedia deals, I got the hotel and it turned out to be Hotel Indigo on N Dearborn, which is very nice. Used PRICELINE link at top right of betterbidding to get started on the PRICELINE bids.
  15. Bid $35 for Economy Got counteroffer $46. I don't ever accept counteroffers, but it was for my wife and she couldn't handle the suspense, so we took it. I'm confident we could have gotten it for $40. Best deal on Expedia was $89 plus about 70% tax, so this was a huge moneysaver.
  16. Tried to get a 4* hotel but had no luck: Bid $74 downtown, rejected. Then added 5 re-bid zones, got price up to $125, all rejected Next day, started at $105, bid up to $205, all rejected. Then lowered to a 3.5* and bid from $65 up to $115 (4 re-bid zones on a 3.5*), all rejected In the end, just went with a boutique hotel I knew about for $269, so didn't use Priceline this time. Used PRICELINE link at betterbidding to do my bidding. Don't know what's happening, but both the Westin and Meridien are sold out, and those are two of the three 4* hotels that priceline usually has, so that's why there were no good deals. Should have been able to get this for about $75-90.
  17. Kind of surprised at this win - great hotel at a great price considering 400,000 people are here for the shuttle launch... Probably could have gotten it a bit cheaper - first bid was $55, accepted by Hyatt airport. Rooms are selling for $159 there right now at Expedia. But parking is $17 a night, so it will end up costing a bit more than $55. Used PRICELINE link at top right of Betterbidding. 18. Did not get a hotel for what I thought was a reasonable price compared with what I could get at Expedia - but here were my bids: I saw there had been a recent win for similar dates for $53, so I started at 49 with 4 re-bid zones to give me 5 total bids: $49 for Strip North - rejected $55 with re-bid - rejected $60 with re-bid - rejected $65 with re-bid - rejected $70 with re-bid - rejected So I went to Expedia and just grabbed a 3 star for $26 - the Tuscany Suites.
  19. Didn't get as good a deal as I hoped for (several others paid $40-60 for a 3.5* here), but it's a very busy week with a Space Shuttle launch, so I'm satisfied. used PRICELINE link at top right of betterbidding to make purchase. Bid history: bid $45 for 3.5* MCO, rejected bid $55 w/ rebid zone, rejected bid $65 w/ rebid zone, rejected bid $75 w/ rebid zone, accepted Crowne Plaza Check-In Date: Tuesday, April 26, 2011 Check-Out Date: Saturday, April 30, 2011 Priceline Hotel Request Number: 134-602-320-10 Priceline Customer Service Number: 1-800-657-9168 Hotel Name: Crowne Plaza Orlando Airport 5555 Hazeltine National Drive Orlando, Florida 32812 407-856-0100 Your Offer Price: $75.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 Subtotal: $300.00 Taxes and Fees: $50.68 Total Charges*: $350.68
  20. I think I may have paid too much for this one... First I tried to get a 4* Downtown, so I started at $85 and bid (using rebid zones) all the way up to $132 and got nothing. So then I tried getting a 3.5* downtown, and started at $85, and got it on the first bid. So, probably could have done better. This is during South by Southwest, so it's hard to get a good deal. 21. First tried to get a downtown hotel, but had no luck. Bid from $50 to $102 (using rebid zones), and hoped to get the Adolphus, but it must be sold out for an event, since this is a Saturday night. So, bid $60 in this zone, and got this on the first bid. Good deal. Used PRICELINE link at top right of this site.
  22. Bid $65 in Downtown - rejected but got counteroffer of $85. 23. Tried to get a 3.5 star downtown for better price but couldn't. $55 a great deal for a 4*, plus includes free shuttle. Bid history: Bid $40 for 3* downtown, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $43, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $45, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $48, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $51, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $55, rejected Ran out of re-bid zones, so switched to Airport to get either Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental: Biud $45 for 4* in Airport W, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $49, rejected added re-bid zone, bid $55, rejected added Airport South, bid $55, accepted Interncontinental Check-In Date: Thursday, October 21, 2010 Check-Out Date: Friday, October 22, 2010 Hotel Name: Intercontinental Tampa 4860 West Kennedy Blvd Tampa, Florida 33609 813-286-4400 Your Offer Price: $55.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $55.00 Taxes and Fees: $14.40 Total Charges*: $69.40 Used PRICELINE link to purchase
  24. I was amazed how much I had to pay this time - clearly this is a big convention week. This was a 2 night stay. Bid history (used PRICELINE link at top right to start bidding): Bid $70 for a 4* in Convention Center and White House zones - rejected added 7 re-bid zones (the zones that do not have 4* hotels) and bid $10 at a time up to $130 The following night, started at $140 and added rebid zones until I got to $200. Hated to pay this much, but hotel website says $410 per night. Expedia has some rooms at $260. By the way, I also bid for a 3.5* in Convention Center and White House zones and went from $110 to $140 and got not bites And, I also bid $100 and $110 for a 3* in Convention Center and got no bites. 25. Started by bidding $25 for full, rejected with counteroffer of $32. I don't do counteroffers then started to bid Std at $20, but got the old "good chance $30, great chance $32 message", so decided standard wasn't going to be a good deal then started to bid Mid at $20, got a "good chance $26, great chance $27", so I raised by bid to $22, rejected then bid Comp at $20, rejected then bid Econ at $20, rejected then bid Std at $26, rejected. Then signed on using my wife's account and bid Full for $30, got it.
