  1. after trying to land a 3* in SFO or SSF and no luck bidding up to $42 over the past week+, I retried 2 1/2* SFO Only, I was declined yesterday at $38 so I tried $40 tonight and got it $53.33 ai now to cancel my $106ai @ the Residence Inn my backup used the BB PRICELINE link! Thanks to Colfax who helped me thru this with some very sightful info (on the other thread)
  2. Finally! Tried last night again nothing. today decided to start at 3* SFO @ $41 NG, added SSF and went up to $42 NG Closed up and tried 2 1/2* SFO @ $40 yesterday and the day before $38 and 39 were declined Staybridge Suites it is and kept me below the $55 i wanted to stay beneath too Thanks Colfax for your help, and Yes all the bidding was done this time via your Link :) since this thread is long Im going to start a new one so that people can see the winning bid, if its against your TSOs Im sure you'll edit this thread somehow
  3. when I said $55 I meant including PLs profit (fees) and tax included Beautiful sunset tonight here in HNL, beats the snow of NY any day OK started tonight with SSF @ $38 Pl came back if I increased my bid by $11 I can have the 3*, I then added SFO and went to $40, got a message to wait for the details of my won bid. Only to get another message that my bid failed. At $40 its $53.33 ai so that means a $41 max for me. will play again tommorrow, time is still on my side thanks for all your advice and I am using the PRICELINE Link provided
  4. thanks, been using the BB link but so far they dont like me Tried $35 2 1/2* SFO added the free zone went to $37 NG tried just now 3* SFO $37 then added SSF and $39 NG will try again during the week while in HNL ( free stay at the ES) was hoping to keep it below $55
  5. I was just playing with hot and w/o a doubt the 2* is the TravelLodge , can book it straight from them and save 50 cents over what hot would end up after Hots fees. Seems the GoodNightInn is switching to a CityGarden or something like that I will stick with PL as much as I HATE them and will post back what I end with if anything, its got to cost alot less then the $106ai I have for the RI otherwise Im going to stay with the RI for MR credit and I will use the PRICELINE link off of here Ok what should be the Bid for the 2 1/2* I havent seen any mentioned on the board, where its a couple of 3s but mainly 4*s that people want. Hate to get a 2 1/2 at $40 if I can get it for less?
  6. Colfax Thanks for your help, thats what keep me from Bidding for a 3* in Irvine/Costa Mesa as there are some props there w/o a shuttle that were won. My Date is 2/1 for 1 night I read the reviews on the HI and if I can get it for a $40 or so bid I wouldnt have any problems with it. Wont get there till 8:30pm and have a 7:40am flight on 2/2. So simply looking for a shower and bed to catch a few ZZZs on. Along with a free shuttle of cause Hotwire has a 2* in NSFO/Oyster Point for $29 match= Shuttle, pool, restaurant, laundry and it shows internet in a grey color box (whatever that means) Any idea which place?
  7. I have a MR upcoming in a few weeks leaving early Mon morn (arriving Sun evening to SFO.) So no car needed or wanted. If I bid for a 3* in the 2 above zones does anyone know if I can get stuck with a Hotel that will Not have a free shuttle to/from SFO. Im holding a res at the RI for $106ai would Love to get a place for close to $50. Wont bid lower then a 3*
  8. Just wanted to say , I was successful in calling the Hotel in getting my HH# on the res. Checked today and got credit and the airline miles as well. Strange was I got 460 pts, HH gives you 10 pts per $1 , my bill from the Hotel didnt have any amounts on it. So I take it from the 460 pts that PL paid the Hotel $46 the same as my Bid was for. Thusly anything lower then $46 wouldnt have been accepted, again I bid for a 3 1/2*. Thats not saying another 3 1/2* wouldnt take less, but Id assume they wouldnt. So PL I take it paid the Hilton $46 + the tx leaving PL with a $9 profit (charged 12.98 while the tx was $3.98 = fee (PL profit) of $9. Of cause they would have made out better had I had a higher Bid, as they would have kept anything over $46 along with the $9 too
  9. Res is for 1/12-1/13 it didnt show up on the title for some reason Was playing around with PL last week before a trip got no where with all my games, nothing anywhere for Jan '09 on any site Decided to try again today, didnt expect to get anything put $47 then saw total would be over $60 last week it was under $60, so pulled it and put in $46, Got the Hilton didnt expect anything as Rates are very high Winning bid $46 + 12.98 taxes and Profit (its only an 8% tax or 3.98 on my $46) Total winning bid of $58.98 was holding a Govt rate else where for $94 Hotel wants $212 or $228.96 ai, so Im happy but Sad cause I would have used this sites PRICELINE Link if I thought I had a chance Havent used PRICELINE in many a yr
  10. thanks OP for your post it was the only 1 I found anywhere that wasnt for the Mercure and around the same date as I needed. i was able to get it for $89 based on your having posted your winning Bid.
  11. Been trying to score a City Center Hotel for awhile No Go, found out that 9/20 is pretty full everywhere. So decided to add Glattbrugg (airport area- knowing that people were getting The Renaissance). Tried $79..$85 decided to start with $85 Center and then add Glattbrugg, this also didnt help. Today decided to start with $85 Center and if nothing go add Glattbrugg and go to $89 as 3 days ago $85 was rejected. NEVER got a counter-offer on anything. Today Center-Nothing added Glattbrugg and uped to $89 and it was accepted. Total for 2 nights is $196.09. Reg rate is 266chf per night or $209.45 plus tax. Marriott Center which I wanted is 329chf or $259 for a Single Bed. Most Hotels didnt have any inexpensive Rooms available for 9/20. Now to cancel my back-up plan, I reserved the Sheraton Arebella at $60 a night plus 4000 points. With taxes and currency conversion fees it was going to cost me 8000 pts and appx $140. Pl is much better as its Only $56 more and I save the 8000 pts.
  12. havent been around here for awhile. I doubt youd find anything close to the strip as the Annual Electronic Show (at the sands Convention Center) is 1/6-1/9 so people start to show up on the 4th & 5th. Besides COMDEX I think it rates as one of the biggest shows in LV. so even off Strip places know they can raise their rates and get it. Way off might be possible.
  13. thereyouare, ill disagree with you about taking the $30 and running (using PL) IF a person is a Plat then going via the PL route NO UPGRADES for sure. Then it depends how someone values the pts, I can stay in a Sher cat#1 for 2000 pts on a Fri/Sat night that will be min $189 so to me the 840 pts is worth say min $72. the other days its 3000 pts so then its around $60 still more than the $30 in savings. As a Gold maybe one could also get a better room. PL usually means one of he worst rooms in the house. then if a Plat no amenity gift either. on the other hand if my savings would be substantial I would do PL and forgo the benefits of being a Plat with SPG or Diamond with Hilton.
  14. OK stayed last night, reported a couple of weeks ago I got it for $47+ = $61 asked to sign the checkin sheet and lo and behold shows the rate as 29
  15. Ok new onto this site, so please bear with me. Used this site and TOOB to get a range. 1st timeever using PL. tried to get the Sher Skyline for $60 as others had for other dates around mine. No Go. Was told for an extra $18 I could have it. I passed tried using a different email address etc but it keep coming back, with my denial. So I had a different family members bid on their account and that was rejected at a bid of $63 the most I would have paid. Rebidded for a 3* at $47 got the HI M4, from posts at both sites $41 was rejected and told $51 can have it. didnt want to play with them over a couple of bucks (would 43 or 45 work). Used SavingsBarn link Theres alot to learn about using PL, its great as the HI website listed the cheapest rate of 71 GBP mine is around 33 GBP. Also by going this way no fees by my CC for converting GBP into $$ another savings. Only as I need to keep my status at 3 different chains(SPG/Hilton/Marriott) which takes up 80+ nights a yr, I dont know how often I will be able to use PL. Here at LHR I needed a room between flights (overnight) so it was the way to go, not worth using hotel pts when I can get something for this price, and the reg rates are way out of line for us Yanks with the battered $$. Want to thank all those who posted their winning/lossing bids it helped me
