  1. Used the PRICELINE link to get a hotel in downtown Boston for 1 night (16th June). Wanted to stay round Quincy Market, Copley Sq, or the Harbourfront/Aquarium. Started bidding 4 star only on these 3 zones - up to $140 dollars a night with nothing coming back. Came back the next day and decided to drop down to a 3.5* hotel as its just for one night and the recent wins seemed to be good hotels. Added the three zones above and started at $100 - finally accepted at $120 a night. Marriott Long Wharf. Rack rate is $349 for this date. Absolutely delighted with this result. Perfect location for a first time visitor and great reviews on TA!
  2. I have provisionally booked the Clifton hotel as a backup (can cancel up to the 20th FEB). I think I will try some 4* only bids over the next few weeks in the hope that the price will drop. We got the Clifton at $165 a night, but there is a resort fee of $12.50 to pay (I guess a lot of the hotels have this). Do you think its worth trying for a 4* hotel with low bids everyday? I am trying to determine what the highest is I should bid to, obviously it would need to be less than $165 (including tax). So about $130 a night. I see there are 6 rebid zones. I will use the PRICELINE link from this website to start bidding.
  3. Using the link above, the cheapest 4* is Lords South Beach at Nash @ $259 (but it seems this hotel is aimed at certain clientele). I have seen the clifton hotel on another website for $190 a night. We would be able to bid as high as $165 as we have to consider the tax that is added on. But it looks like we might not even get a 3* at that price?
  4. I didnt realise I hadn't replied to this. I ended up booking the chancellor hotel via a deal through Expedia. It worked out very well, we really liked the chancellor and the location.
  5. I am looking 2 rooms in south beach, both for 2 nights (23rd - 25th Feb). This will be our first trip to Miami and it is for a pre-cruise stay. From reading other posts, the desirable areas in South beach are Central, Collins Av and Ocean drive? I have bid up to $135 for a 4* hotel in each area (and used the free rebids also). No luck yet (too early?). Do the prices on hotwire/priceline seem high for those dates? I would be willing to pay $150 max for a 4* and if I was getting nothing I would drop to the 3.5* at a max of $125 per night. Does this seem reasonable? Failing this - does anyone know what other areas of Miami would be best to stay in, or is the general quality of the 3* hotels good in a particular south beach area?

  7. Was bidding all weekend - still had no luck even at 3.5* level up to 150. This morning I bid $130 on 4* midtown east, rejected as expected. I then added midtown west and upped the bid to $133. Much to my surprise I won the algonquin Marriott near time square! Very happy with this win and hotel looks perfect for our stay. I have been using the PRICELINE links too..
  8. I have done both as you have requested! Note I tried bidding my maximum of $150 for 4* in ESB, CPS, MTE, MTW, TS and came back with nothing :) I can't decide if I should bid less for a 3.5* in the same areas..I have heard about the small rooms in the Hudson but I think that would be fine for us - as long as the price was right. I see people getting the Roosevelt for $110 for the same period last year but I know its not the same each year. Perhaps I should keep trying weekly? My other half is worried we wont get anything if we leave it too late.. Thanks for the help..
  9. I ended up winning the 4* Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel And Conference Center. The price accepted was $125 per night. Check-In Date: Sat, 17 Oct 2009 for 3 nights. The hotel was very nice, but a little out from the centre - although a subway was nearby, but if you like to stay out late like we do you might have to taxi it back :)
  10. I just realised - I would also accept a 4* in central park south too as it seems to be a good area. I am having trouble deciding on what to bid for - I feel that if I had to go as far as $150 then I would hope for a 4* ... Advice welcomed!
  11. Have been bidding up to $140 for a 4* in the following: Mte Mtw Ts I also bid up to the same amount for a 3.5* in the following: Mte Mtw Ts Esb With no luck and no counter offers etc. Perhaps its just too early to be bidding? Anyway - if I could get a good 3.5 * in midtown for less money then that would be my preference, so looking for the cheapest 3.5 * in the above locations. The 15 min walk to the subway would not be a concern - first time to New York so we just want a convenient location and decent hotel. Really didn't want to bid over 150 a night... Thanks for any help...
  12. I did indeed read the post. Thanks to you both. I think I posted this in the wrong forum also :)
  13. I tried a bid for 4* in Latin quarter of Paris, Oct 17th for 3 nights - I offered $80 a night. They came back with a counter offer of $145. Still too pricey for me! What are my options now? I have to change something to make a rebid, are there any zones which do not have a 4*? What should I up my bid to? Thanks! <EDIT> I added this zone (which has no 4* hotels) Batignolles - Montmartre - Republique and I also upped my bid to $95. I received this message: "Thank You for Naming Your Own Price
