I often find that in a particular geographical area, there is at least one hotel in a Priceline star category that is a real clunker. (Say, for instance, the Red Lion at the Portland airport.) The likelihood that I will end up with the Red Lion makes me reluctant to bid in the 3* category at all. However, I note that at present, the Red Lion is listed on Priceline's regular (non-bidding) page for $75 per night. I was wondering what would happen if I were to bid $76 for a 3* on the opaque portion of the site. I would, of course, be irritated to the max if I still ended up with the Red Lion!
