  1. Hotel correctly identified using betterbidding cheatsheet and TripAdivsor level as Indigo, price about $50 lower than what is available directly from the hotel. Please note - this hotel charges extra per person after the first 2 - as we have 4 in our party, the price was also higher on the hotwire version. Caveat emptor. Booked starting from the HOTWIRE link at this website.
  2. New (unlisted at betterbidding) 2* hotel in Wilmington East. Amenities listed: pool, business, laundry, internet. Booking 3 people per room. Came up at $66 at 2 people per room. Hotel has 2 types of rooms (1 double bed and 2 double beds) available, at prices slightly above Hotwire's, so if you plan to sleep 2+ be wary. 2 rooms, 1 night. Tax recovery charges & fees: $37.67
  3. You might have better chances if you forget about the 10/18. On the 17th a major (30k+) conference starts in town and the hotels are booked... and then some.
  4. The name given by PL is Central Loop Hotel. I guess it's the Club Quaters thing.
  5. I am deeply sorry for anyone who hasn't gotten their accommodation for SfN arranged already. Direct booking prices have skyrocketed, and that's the deal that my colleague got on Priceline yesterday. He authorized me to post it here for him after my request: $140... rejected $150... rejected $160... rejected He apparently bid earlier up to $170 for a 4* with no luck. The room he got is in a Central Loop Hotel, which is not affiliated SfN hotel, however it's about 3 blocks from the nearest shuttle stop. Please note, hotel does not offer 2 Doubles at all and Priceline books into a Queen bed.
  6. I am too tired to post a thread now, will do so later today, but my colleague got a 3* for 10/16-10/21 (same conference, I guess) in the area for $160. It's a Central Loop Hotel. Please note, the hotel does not have 2 doubles AT ALL (at least according to the website) and it books into a Queen room. It might be a factor for you as well.
  7. The battle was fierce and will be remembered for generations to come: jc - 65 *warning, low chance* jc + eliz - 70 jc + eliz/mead - 75 jc + eliz/mead/new - 78 jc + eliz/mead/new/sec - 80 jc + eliz/mead/new/sec/shills - 83 jc + eliz/mead/new/sec/shills/wor - 85 Hits Westin Jersey City at $85, hotel best prepaid rate (website) is $189 - I am happy. I am also happy it's not Hyatt, because even though it was a nice hotel, I am willing to try something new! Used the PRICELINE link.
  8. My "sum total" is fixed, what can change is the amount of nights (slash 8/23) or, as already mentioned, location (to NJ Waterfront). Thanks for the hint thereuare about the low quality 2*s in Manhattan - will try my luck on the other side of the Hudson for now.
  9. Dear all, I hope you can help me out a bit. I am looking for a sub $85 /n + tax room in Manahattan, 2*+ star category (although until now I stayed with 3* + ). Dates 8/21-8/23, splits welcome. If I can't find anything, I will probably decide for NJ, where such amount should be sufficient (hopefully). The bidding strategy I used today was: 4* cps/esb/mes cps/esb/mes + ues 75 cps/esb/mes + ues/chel 76 cps/esb/mes + ues/chel/brook 77 cps/esb/mes + ues/chel/brook/lic 78 cps/esb/mes + ues/chel/brook/lic/msg 80 3.5* cps/esb/mes/mw/ts 75 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts + chel 80 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts + chel/lic 85 3* cps/esb/mw 65 cps/esb/mw/ts 70 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts 75 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts/msg 76 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts/msg/chel 77 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts/msg/chel/uws 80 cps/esb/mes/mw/ts/msg/chel/uws/soho 81 I obviously did not explore all the combinations / re-biddings possible, but I think I tested the waters enough. I would probably want to avoid lic/brook, unless the price justifies the extra hassle (it's a touristy stay). Any hints / ideas? Or is my request too unreasonable even for PRICELINE? Best, TamCaP PS. Just in case: cps - CentralParkSouth, esb - EmpireStateBuilding, mes - MidtownEast, mw - MidtownWest, ts - TimesSquare, msg - MadisonSquareGarden, chel - Chelsea, uws - UpperWestSide, soho - SOHO + Financial District, lic - Long Island City
  10. Looked around on PRICELINE first, no good deals though. Found this one on HOTWIRE, totaled $79.74. TA has some mixed reviews, but hopefully it's going to be ok + is located very close to an U-Bahn station. The hotel was NOT on the Hotwire list. Amenities: Restaurant, Fitness, Internet (?) TA Rating 4 (with 180+ votes)
  11. I found this hotel: 5* Waldorf Towers tripadvisor review On the hotel list. Any ideas how to bid for it? PRICELINE does not usually offer a 4* level. Any out-of-the-sleeve tricks? Thanks a lot.
  12. Got it after testing the murky waters of NYC bidding. It was my last bet for 4*, as I knew I can probably get a 3.5* in the area for about $95. Total is: $131.63 Used the magical PRICELINE link.
  13. Unfortunately, also the difference (price) on PL between 3* and 4* might not be that large. And I managed to get a decent 4* for $80 already, having some $65-70 bids for 3* rejected... see my point? :-)
  14. Heh, 4/07 :) Doesn't count :) I mostly implied for future bookings, I guess :o
  15. Very nice hotel (2.5* on PL when I booked) that I would book even for a walk-in price. And such compliment doesn't happen often. Got it off Priceline for <$40 / night. For that I got a 2 room suite (bedroom + living room) with a kitchen annex in the living room. The staff was outstanding... OUTSTANDING. All our wishes were fulfilled and even after we stupidly left some quite expensive piece of electronics behind - after couple of phone calls it was given back to us, no problemo. 'Gym' is on the little side, pool is fine. Free parking, free internet (wifi), free breakfast (american style, nothing to write home about, except for tons freshly squeezed OJ :)). No wired internet. A self-service area with snacks and drinks next to the check-in, with great prices (no ridiculous hotel-like overpricing!). No restaurant in the building itself, but a huge mall complex nearby and 3 easily walkable-distance restaurants. Well located (next to the Interstate). The only con: due to the design, the AC in the rooms is on the loud side :-(
  16. Hitlon Islington says hello after couple of months of a break from the forums. Using the magical PRICELINE link I got a nice pre-Christmas stay in an officially 4* hotel. IMHO - a great deal. Published fares on the hotel website are about $210 so more than 50% off. I think that's close or at the limit for the bottom price for this hotel (based on a complicated and hectic bidding history :))
  17. A 3* (could a mod modify the subject please) A first bid, and an overbid. :) Still, a nice place to go to, but I guess reachable already around $100. Used magic PRICELINE link.
  18. Another 2.5* found in Durham, located more between Durham and Chapel Hill, but still a nice deal. $46.6 / night with taxes, booked through the magic PRICELINE link. How does the list of the hotels get amended? As this one is missing.
