  1. Stayed at this place on 8/28/04 for one night. Cost was $43, and it was a deal for what we got. Decent little room, clean, mini fridge in the kitchenette area, microwave, and pull out sofa bed. The pool was nice and warm, and the place is only a few miles from the beach.

Free continental breakfast too, but I didn't have any.

This is a nice bargain, for sure.

  2. Glad to help, and although I am no "expert", I know enough.

For rooms in November in NYC, the longer you wait, the more the prices will go up. $120 for a 4* will not be accepted.

Do this, go to PL, select MTW, 4*, and start with $160, then if rejected, add one area each time... MTE, UM/CPS, UES.

If you are willing to add DT/Financial district, you can try that too.

At this point, there is no sense in starting below $160, at least as far as I can tell.

Good luck, let us know how it goes... thereuare can probably help also, he is the guru here... :)

  3. Just my opinion, if you can get the Westin at a decent rate, go for it. I don't know people are used to, but the Westin isn't NEARLY as bad as some people say it is. Maybe it was the room they were in, but my room was fine, and would have absolutely no problem staying there again if it would save me some bucks.

If you want to stay in Vegas and see the hotels, it sure as heck beats Henderson... :)

If you do stay there, add your review, I added one a little while back.

  4. And if I can add my two cents also...

Reports of increasing hotel business nationwide are completely true, and this goes especially for NYC in the fall, which begins the high time for New York.

I have a vacation in late Sept, and was lucky enough, after spitting my bids, and putting in about 15 different combinations, to get the Park Central for $158(4 nites) and the Grand Hyatt for $102(for 3 nites, a steal, I know!)

If I were you I would try right now for a 4* in MTE, MTW, UES, UM-CPS, DT/soho before rates go up even more, and see if they will take $140. If rejected, then you can wait the 72 hours, and start at about $100 for 3 stars in the areas you like most, then work up from there.

Keep in mind which hotels are 3 stars, and check them out online, etc to see which ones you want most, and then start with those areas first.

    Good luck!!

p.s.- I don't know if you have been to NYC before, but Manhattan in the fall is THE BEST!

  5. On priceline, you may end up in the Westin Casaurina as a 4 star place, if you pick strip area, and 4*. I have stayed there, and personally find it just fine, but if you are thinking you will get NYNY or MGM Grand, etc... you very probably will not, as the Westin seems to be the hotel du jour for 4* strip requests.

Definitely try the 5* strip area first, then go try 4* in the West of Strip area, if you like the RIO(I do), as I believe that is the only 4* in that zone. Then you might try the 4* strip request if you'd like...

    good luck!

  6. Thereuare would know more, but that is a high time in NYC. I think, though, that you might want to check out certain 3 star hotels in some areas. If you are set on a 4* place for the majority of your stay, it may be best if you break up your request.

Maybe try one for Nov 9 thru 12th(3 nights), and then one from the 12th thru 14th(2 nights). Try your request again, like this:

change the dates to 11/9/04 to 11/12/04, 4*, and start with your favorite zone at $125

if rejected, add a zone, keeping it at 4*, and go to $135

keep doing this, each time adding a zone(and $10) that you would be willing to stay in.

If you get an offer accepted, then start a new request for the last 2 days, using the same strategy.

I myself am going to NYC in late Sept, and have the 3* Park Central Hotel(UM/CPS) for $158 per night, and the Grand Hyatt at $102 for 3 nights(I don't know how I pulled this one off, but I did go down to 3*, but they upgraded me)

I am guessing you might need to break up your stay to get a decent rate, as business is picking up in NYC...

    good luck

  7. I stayed at the Princess twice, in Aug 2001, and June 2002. The rooms are fine, fairly standard, and bathroom pretty standard also. The pool area is nice, with live entertainment most, if not all nights. The location cannot be beat, for the price. It is literally 3 minutes from Waikiki beach, there is a dunkin donuts and Subway right across the street, as well as an ABC convenience store. Short walk to the mall, and other hotels in the area.

For the price, I would definitely stay there again!!

BTW, I paid $64 or so, and I think that you still pay this amount(approximately) on Priceline.

  8. I stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, and it was fine. You should be able to get that one for your price range(on priceline), I think. It seems to be the most booked 3* in that area thru priceline. Having stayed there, I can say that it is a decent 3* hotel, and while it won't knock your socks off, it is just fine for the price. It is right in the middle of Waikiki, literally 4 minutes walk to the beach. Subway and Dunkin donuts right across the street, as is the ABC convenience store. The pool is nice, and there is entertainment nightly.

I would definitely start with a 3* bid in the North zone(I think that is the correct zone for the Princess), and start at maybe $54.

    Good luck!!

  9. Myself and some buddies go to Vegas every year for the Kentucky Derby, and always try to book rooms early. However, this far out, there are no deals. The only rates are standard rates, if they are even available at this point. (sites like Expedia and some others won't have rooms showing as available at many properties this early) The flights are not sold out, they probably are not even priced yet by the airlines. Since the airline tickets are gas-price sensitive, they usually sell tickets at most 3-6 months in advance, but there might be some exceptions.

My advice to you is to start looking in earnest around November or December 2004, you might see a couple deals. After that, it will only get more and more expensive as you get closer to your trip(if you book directly).

Only try for the Venetian on Priceline, unless you like the Westin Casuarina as a 4 star option on the strip. I stayed there in May 2004, and it wasnt bad at all, but I think priceline should make it 3* or 3.5* at most.

  10. Whoever is reporting that Hotel business is picking up... they are right!

It looks like Oct hotel rates are between $130 and $175, for 3 to 4 stars.... at least at this point. I will be leaving the Hyatt the same day you come in. Great location, if you asked me. Since I lived in New York, I can say that early October is a great time to visit, as thereuare can attest...

Have fun, and heck, I may pass you in the lobby when you are checking in..

  11. Just to add/agree with thereuare, the Fall seems to be high time, and many of my bids for 4* hotels were unsuccessful. This was for 9/24 - 10/1. It would seem that you you will likely pay between $120-170 or so... is my guess.

And, as I have done, I would split up the trip into 2 hotels. I am doing so in the Fall, and although I used to live in NYC, it will give my wife a chance to stay in two parts of the city.

My winning bids are on this board, for the Grand Hyatt($102) and the Park Central($158).

P.S. - If you haven't been to NYC, for convenience sake, I would start with MTW as your first zone. It is right in the middle of the city, and close to all transportation, and includes the Times Square hotels. Then add UM/CPS, then MTE, then UES.

    Good luck!!

  12. Yes, good luck with that, let us know how that 5 star bid works out. Thereuare has many answers to your questions, should any arise.

The figure I gave you to try was based upon recent prices accepted by Priceline very recently, so I would start low and work up. Of course, after you try for that elusive 5 star... Heck, midweek at near $200 might get it.(Waldorf Towers)

Good luck, and have fun on your trip!

  13. I stayed at the Westin April 30th and May 1st, 2004. Was in town for the Kentucky Derby. The rate I got was $138 per night, for 3 rooms. This was better than any of the other "name" hotels for that weekend, so that was fine. I wanted to stay at Luxor, but that was $199 per night.

The view from my room was of the new Wynn resort being built, so that was kinda cool. The room was comfortable, and the beds were nice. The bathroom was clean and modern. We did have trouble with the toilet, but they fixed it. The pool is small, but adequate for the size of the hotel. They have a fitness center, if you need one, and they have starbucks in the Lobby.. a big plus. The casino is small, but that may be a good thing. The walk to the strip is not bad at all. Anyone who complains must not like to walk. Parking was plentiful.

All in all, a decent stay for the price.

My only wish is that they make this a 3.5 * hotel, to separate it from the other 4* places that they offer on the strip.

  14. Go to Priceline Hotels, then select New York City, and MTW(Mid Town West) as the area you want to stay. Select 4 star, and a bid of $99. I am fairly confident you can get a hotel for that rate. Check the list of four star hotels in that area, but they are all pretty good. If you don't get it, add UM/CPS, and keep the star level at 4, and go to $110.

I am sure that will take care of it. Enjoy. I have a trip to NYC in September that I am looking forward to.
