  1. Checked PRICELINE EXPRESS deals and saw a 3 1/2 star Downtown for $116 I think. Had lots of rebids, so started at $60 and got immediate counter of $92. Since there were so many available rebids, I just kept adding $3 (and $2 as I got closer to expected rate), and ultimately got accepted at $82. With $34.38 total taxes and fees, the two night total came to $198.38. Used the BetterBidding PRICELINE link for searching and bidding.
  2. Sorry, forgot to capture the list of amenities, but it matched the amenities on the hotel list so I was pretty confident I was getting the Doubletree Downtown. Given the dates and other prices I've seen, this is a pretty good rate. We have a large party, so I couldn't be too picky and am happy with the win. I used the link on this site.
  3. I knew I had lots of rebids, so I started at $40 (ignoring message that a win was unlikely). Then using free rebids I went $45, $50, $52, $54, $56, $58, $60, $62, $64, $65 and $65 was accepted, Emily Morgan. Based on searching this website, this is basically the hotel I expected and around the price I expected. I used the BB link to PRICELINE above.
  4. I was looking for a 4* in either Union Square West, USE, Financial District, or SOMA. I started at $100 in Financial District. Started increasing by $5 adding USW, USE and SOMA. Then started adding free bid zones. I hadn't thought my bids through carefully enough, and eventually realized I needed to start increasing by $10 per bid. Finally accepted $155 - JW Marriott(I think I had 1 free bid left). If I had it to do over again, I probably would have started at $100, added by increments of $10 up to $130 (when it was much less likely that I would have my bid accepted) and then started using free bids with increments of $5. I think I used the PRICELINE link - I certainly meant to. If I didn't, I apologize and will do so next time.
  5. Started bid at $50, then $55, ended at $60. Hyatt Regency Chicago 151 East Wacker Drive Chicago, Illinois 60601
  6. After numerous bids last week and over the weekend of up to $80 for most of the areas above, today I finally got the 3.5* Hilton Washington for $75. Today's bidding: $60 - Georgetown; rejected $60 - added Arlington (I had never bid Arlington, but decided all 3.5*+ hotels were convenient to metro); $65 - added Dupont circle; rejected $70 - added CC-CH; rejected $75 - added Whitehouse; Got Hilton Washington in Dupont Circle area.
  7. You're right, there must be something going on at the Marriott that week. Most of the days that people have gotten $60 or close show up at $119 regularly. The exception is the person that got the day after my stay, when the rooms are even higher than $359/nite. She must have gotten real lucky. Looking at a map, I would stay CC-CH, Crystal City, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, and White House, and probably Alexandria or Arlington if I can get a 3.5*. I would probably drop down to a 3* in CC-CH, White House, Georgetown and Dupont Circle. My first choice for location would be Georgetown, 2nd choice Dupont Circle, and from there, it doesn't matter much. I would probably prefer a 3* in Georgetown or Dupont Circle over a 3.5 in Alexandria or Arlington if that matters. And bottom line, I pretty much have to go, so I will pay what I have to, but would like to pay as little as possible. Thanks.
  8. The actual date is June 24th. As to price, I see several others have gotten the Marriott Metro for $60 (including the two days after mine). That would be great. Even better, I have seen some 3.5* in Crystal City for $49 or $50. I have tried up to those amounts and didn't get a bite, but will be trying again. I would love to stay in that neighborhood, but will go higher if I have to (although I would prefer to move further out - if i can stay on the Metro - rather than increasing price). I'll take a look at the map as you suggested.
  9. I will be coming to DC for a convention in late June. I will be paying for 1 night so I want to find something pretty cheap. I prefer to use the Metro (rail) for getting around. I am pretty sure that anything in CC-CH, Crystal City, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, and White House are pretty safe. What about the other areas, are they served by the Metro? I would consider any hotel that is less than 1 mile to a station completely reasonable.
