  2. Greetings fellow Better-Bidders!! I am making a trip to Central Texas the weekend before Christmas with 6 members of my family. Having stayed at this hotel before in August, I was happy to see that when my bid was accepted at $80 I was booked at the Stephen F. I have never tried to bid for more than one hotel room at a time, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I have heard good things and bad about multi room bidding. Started out at $55 and it finally hit at $80. I am making a separate post for the second night of the trip since it is in a another city. BTW, I got a rental from Enterprise for a full size SUV for three days with unlimited miles ( don't they all do that now a days??) for $180 incl.fees and taxes!! CHEEEEEEEAAAAAPPPP!!!!! The Nahtg
  3. hey ... maybe we'll see you in the hotel or on Bourbon street. We'll be the drunk Texans!!
  4. I just booked for that weekend. Look at my priceline New Orleans post! It's LSU homecoming weekend!
  5. Buddy and I are going to LSU game in Baton Rouge and decided to stay in the N.O. Even though this is a bi-week for the Saints, rooms are very hard to find for this weekend.(Any ideas why?) Tried a gazillion combo's at 4* and couldn't get squat. Went down to 3.5 star and got this quickly. As always after I win a bid at Priceline I go straight to the hotel website to see what the room normally costs. It says the rate is $179 a night. Read several reviews..... yeah it might not be the newest hotel , but it gets super high marks for location. And after all... it's not where you from but where you at!! The -- Nahtg oh..its Homecoming!!!! Duh!!! Sat, Nov 13 versus ULM
  6. Intercontinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel 4 Star BEAUX ARTS SPLENDOUR ON FAMED CONGRESS AVENUE Affectionately known as the "Stephen F" by native Austinites, the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin has been part of the city scene for more than 60 years. A central location three blocks from the Capitol puts you within walking distance of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, the University of Texas and the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail. Downtown Austin 701 Congress Avenue Austin, Texas 78701 512-457-8800 Check-In Date: Fri, Aug 6, 2010 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sun, Aug 8, 2010 / 12:00 PM Called them directly2 mins after I booked in and asked for 2 queen size beds. They told me that they could not guarantee me my bed request since I used a third party website. I asked her if it made sense that they would honor the reservation and take my money thru that website but could not guarantee me the extra bed. She backed off and said 'Don't worry, I'll take care of it!" And that's why I wanted a 4* in the first place. 'Cuz they take care of it'!! Love this friggin site!
  7. Thanks, and here is the difference between this year and last year, as well as the published rates right now. Like I said, I have been trying to get something different since the 31st of March, with no luck. Oh well, prices have really gone up in my opinion. Last year... My deal was this..... from PRICELINE Your Rental Car Reservation Mid-Size Car (Unlimited Mileage) Pick-Up Location: Avis Rent a Car LOS ANGELES AP CA 9217 Airport Blvd Los Angeles,CA 90045 1-800-230-4898 Drop-Off Location: Same as above Pick-Up Date: May 23, 2008 - 2:00 PM Drop-Off Date: May 30, 2008 - 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $13.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 7 days(6 days and 22 hours) Subtotal: $91.00 Taxes and Fees: $40.69 Total Charges: $131.69 Lowest Published Price: $310.99 Total Savings:* $179.30 (You saved 58%) This is what I got this tonight... Time and Place Pickup Los Angeles Intl Airport In-terminal 5630 ARBOR VITAE STREET LOS ANGELES, CA 90045 866-434-2226 Sunday, April 26, 2009 Return Same as Pick-up Thursday, April 30, 2009 Promo Code: 490 Estimated Charges Rental Time: 4 Days at $25.63 per day. Unlimited mileage. Rate Code: RWXD3 Total Base Rate $102.52 U.S. Dollar (USD) Apt Conc Recov Fee $11.39 Facility Charge $10.00 State Tax $10.54 Tourism Surcharge $2.56 Total Est. Mandatory Charges $34.49 Est. Grand Total $137.01 Your Car Choice Mid-size Chrysler Sebring (or similar) Here is the best rates I could find on PL DOLLAR Mid-size $36/day x 4 $191 total SO, going to Dollar directly saves me more than any of the other "brand name" car rental paces. As I said before, I won't use the off brand ones, no matter what the prices are. Too many horror stories... And yes, Thrity has the same rates too, with the button for "check city specials". Thrity owns Dollar, or is it the other way around? Good luck all, I am off to Cali. After working my tail off for 8 months staight with no time away, I really need this break!!
  8. Hey there! You might want to check out your links. When I clicked it, it says this "The link you clicked on has expired. It pointed to a Web site that was a member of the Commission Junction network and has since been deactivated or temporarily suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience."
  9. I would except where I am going to be staying after I get out of the airport is more than 20 miles away ( SF valley) SO here's a little update, I have been hammering away with promo/discount codes all day to see what I can get. I realize now that I have 3 strikes against me. 1. I am not staying over a Sat night. 2. I am not renting for 5 or more days 3. I am cheap, but I won't go to the off-brand car rental places because of their business practices. So anyways , I was on the Dollar site , with my dates checking the rates when I noticed this little "check city specials" button, and wham!!! I found a deal. I now see that I was going to paying over $100 for those 4 days, no matter what brand I used, but now I feel like I am getting a better car for the money. Most places I found were like $140-$200 and up for just the economy class, but I can get a compact ( next size up) for $121 or a midsize for $ 137. I am going to book it tonight or tomorrow................. Last year I got a compact in LA in May for a week for $13 a day. Then in July I got compact out of Hou from a Fri to a SUn for $10 a day.... I guess those days are gone now....
  10. For over two weeks now I have been linking thru this board to Priceline and Hotwire, and I can't catch a break for getting a rental car for my upcoming visit to LA next weekend. Last year I went to PL and got a midsize for $13 a day for a seven days. Now I can't even get an economy for like $21 a day. Did the prices go up in one year so high? I though the recent recession would make it even cheaper or at least the same to rent a car. But no luck. I have been bidding every 24 hours, changing my bid as I go up a size car, and nothing. I can't get a break. Hell, my airfare, is waaaaaaaaaay chaper than last year, so I thought I car rentals would be the same. DOES anyone have any ideas? So far I have, 1. Used "name your own price" at Priceline 2. Checked Hotwire every day 3. Googled car rental discount codes and then tried to use them at each individual car rental website Cheapest I can find is like $ 130 for the 4 days, and that's crazy!! I won't use the places like Deluxe , and Payless. I am sticking with the majors.... Help please!!
  11. Used my bonus cash from PRICELINE, and I tried for a car, got a Mid size for 8 dollars a day for 3 days with unlimited miles BTW, I went back and looked at the Motel 6 quote, and it did not include taxes and fees. Total came to $205. SO Yea, now I really feel great, cuz it only took $70 to upgrade to my new one! RiverWalk here I come!! I'll be the drunk guy with my shirt off hanging from the side as my friends are keeping me from jumping into the water.. Just kidding, but still.... Woot!
  12. I am sure a lot of you have seen my other post about trying to get a 4* for the July the 4th weekend. Well, after about 10000 different bids at different amounts, I finally stepped my bid up. You can a better rate at Hotwire , but only if you stay longer than 2 nights and on their terms. So I am happy with what I got. Does anyone remember that my back up was the Motel 6 out side the loop for $180. For $100 more, to move up to a 4* 1 block off the Riverwalk is OK with me!!! Started at $75 ( more realistic for this holiday weekend and also a 4*) Check-In Date: Friday, July 4, 2008 Check-Out Date: Sunday, July 6, 2008 Hotel Name: Marriott San Antonio Plaza 555 South Alamo Street San Antonio, Texas 78205 210-229-1000 Summary of Charges Your Offer Price: $115.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $230.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $48.73 Total Charges*: $278.73 Arrival Information Check-In and Checkout * Check-in: 3:00 PM Check-out: 12:00 PM * Video Review Billing , Video Checkout * Express Check-In and Express Checkout Parking * On-site parking, fee: 2.5 USD hourly, 19 USD daily * Valet parking, fee: 25 USD daily For a set daily rate of 9.95 you get, in your guest room: 1. 13. Horrible, now and every other time of the year. For the money, stick to Central Texas, or maybe go North . But don't waste your time in BMT. In fact the only bright spot in the whole city just shut down because of lawsuits. read here http://www.kfdm.com/news/street_26711___ar...t_mccarson.html and here http://www.kfdm.com/news/bar_26754___artic...r_crockett.html
  14. This was DEF. worth the money. It is close to everything, very clean, and the service was great. I didn't eat or drink here, but the places looked nice. Only 2 negatives were #1 parking..... On the street after 6pm is free, but who wants that... like I am going to leave my car unattended overnight in the downtown area of one of the biggest cities in thw world..yea right!!? I used the city parking garage and it was 6$ each time out or $15 for 24 hrs. Better than valet that was $28 for 24 hours but it had in/out priviledges. #2 Extra costs..I had to print out a coupon I got for a $25 dollar gift certificate that I paid $8 bucks for, but I had no printer, so the front desk told me about the businiess center. WTH..... They wanted to charge me like $15 to use the PC's to get onto the net, access my email, and print out this gift cert. I went back to the front desk and was like..." WTH".... and so the guy said, "here...send it to MY email and i'll print it for you... for free"... Now that's good service... They honored my request to have a room in the corner, and DAMN I had a view Beds were VERY comfy .... Also it was right next to the elevators and ice machines...... Yes, that was good cuz this place is big and it would suck to have to walk more than 2 mins to get into the room. This is a great place, and is getting better every month.... I really feel like I got a great deal. I would have no problem paying $140 a night, but I am cheap, plus I know about PL...
  15. wow, thats great that you got it at that price , but I am wondering if you got it because of how long you booked for? I offered that amount(and more), for 7/4-7/6 and got no where... any ideas?
  16. thanks for the help I just got a good feeling, as next weekend draws closer.... a good deal is going to pop up. :)
  17. What do you mean 'potential match for the Hotel Valencia"? And how do you do that?
  18. Hey, thanks for your help. I should have been a little more clear in stating that the $179 is the total for the whole weeekend.... both nights, not a nightly rate. Also, how do you find all these promo codes? Is there a site or something?
  19. I am embarrased to say it's $179 (total) for those 2 nights. I mean, does the fact that it's July the 4th weekend make THAT much of a big deal that I can't get a deal on PL?
