  1. Its not quite that bad. There ARE places nearby but not particularly pedestrian friendly for access. Pedestrians can walk down Bresler Dr. to Airport Road and turn right. There is a Golden Griddle (I think its open 24 hrs) there. Alternatively, you can take the shuttle to the Terminal and hop on the Marriott's free shuttle from there. That drops you off at Dixon/Carlingview which has a huge number of options.
  2. I really wanted to try and snag the Fairfield again at 2* or even the Courtyard at 2.5* since I will have a lot of in-and-out parking and the Marriott charges through the roof, but fate conspired against me I guess. 2* Airport Zone : $20 - no luck Added Downtown : $25 - no luck (odds of getting a $25 downtown hotel in mid-summer are nil so its effectively a free re-bid) New bid 2.5* Airport/Brampton : $27 - no luck Added Scarberia : $29 - no luck Added Toronto East : $31 Congratulations, you got your price of $31 for a hotel room, and we've upgraded your hotel quality level to a 3-star hotel! Check-In Date: Friday, July 30, 2004 Check-Out Date: Saturday, July 31, 2004 Marriott Toronto Airport 901 Dixon Rd Toronto, Ontario M9W 1J5 416-674-9400 Your Offer Price: $31.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $31.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $8.92 (US dollars) Total Charges: $39.92 (US dollars) Ah well, could definitely do worse than the Airport Marriott. I'm there often enough so they might as well start receiving my mail soon...
  3. The Westmark Klondike Inn in Whitehorse is one of the handful of 3-star properties in town. The hotel is located on the edge of downtown, but within very easy walking distance of everywhere of interest. The Westmark group is owned by Holland America Cruise Lines and hence a minimum standard of quality is maintained. Rooms were decently furnished, but not luxurious by any means. Standard telephone and television was provided, with a strange selection of local channels from across Canada and the United States offered (Detroit and Halifax channels in the Yukon????). A free airport shuttle is offered for every major flight arrival/departure (not that many big planes come to town!). Look for the driver in arrivals area carrying a Westmark sign and notify reception in advance of the return journey. Hotel staff were universally very young and are probably college students who work there during the summer. They were extremely helpful and always willing to provide suggestions about good places to visit, eat, etc... The hotel restaurant "Arizona Charlies" is supposed to provide decent food, but is a favored stop for tour buses and hence somewhat of a turnoff for individual diners. Plenty of fast food (McDonalds, A&W, KFC, Dominos, etc..) and restaurants (Boston Pizza Bistro, Chinese, etc..) available within a few blocks however. Breakfast buffet is available in the hotel for $11, but I had an early flight and couldn't try it out. The hotel also serves as the layover for airline crews transiting through Whitehorse. I wound up chatting with the Air Canada Zip crew that flew me back to Vancouver the next morning! Definitely a good property that I reccomend to anyone visiting the Yukon.
  4. Sheraton Winnipeg is a conveniently located property that provides a comfortable room, but nothing worth writing home about. Hotel is located downtown amid a maze of one-way streets that make the main entrance a little hard to locate. Still, conveniently located to much of downtown. Valet parking is offered for $10/night. Very disorganized though, so budget enough time (at least 5-10 minutes) to retrieve your car when leaving. Room itself was typically Sheraton with good amenities, although the lack of desk was annoying when I wanted to break out the laptop. High Speed Internet was available free as it was being tested, but will be a charged service in the near future. The "Sheraton Sleeper" bed was available, which made a world of difference for comfort! The hotel restaurant is supposed to be among the best in Winnipeg. Although I didn't get a chance to try it, it was highly reccomended by the guy who sat next to me on the flight into town as well as many guides. Hotel staff can be both helpful and standoffish, so a mixed bag on that front. Overall, a satisfactory stay. Nothing more, nothing less.
  5. This is a brand spanking new property (opened only in April 2004) that is absolutely fantastic. Room was very large and nicely equipped with nice amenities including large TV, free high speed internet, 2 line phone, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, etc... Hotel is located less than two minute drive from new Terminal 1. Great view of runway 23 approach and arrivals from the upper floor, but no aircraft noise problems. Airport shuttle is available around the clock, but you may have to call from arrivals if you don't want to wait too long. Covered and open-air parking are both available. The sign said to take a ticket and validate it at reception, but the gate was open and no charge was levied. Free continental breakfast in the lobby is fantastic. Stocked with pastries, cereal, fruit, juices, muffins, toast, preserves, etc... You name it, they had it. More importantly, the staff made sure to keep the counters clean and all the baskets full. No restaurant in the hotel, but they have a tie-up with a delivery service that will deliver from 20+ local restaurants right to your room. Indoor pool is decent as is the workout facility. Hotel staff are enthusiastic, helpful and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Definitely a property that I will reccomend in the future.
  6. I'm usually not willing to go below 3* for this zone as there are some real clunkers like the Comfort Inn and the Quality Hotel at 2* here. However, I was heartened by a number of recent succesful bids for the Fairfield and decided to cross my fingers and take a chance.... Check-In Date: Friday, July 9, 2004 Check-Out Date: Saturday, July 10, 2004 Fairfield Inn And Suites Toronto Airport 3299 Caroga Drive Mississauga, Ontario L4V 1A3 905-673-9800 Your Offer Price: $20.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $20.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $7.78 (US dollars) Total Charges: $27.78 (US dollars)
  7. The Novotel is a very nice property located conveniently in downtown Montreal. It is the layover hotel for a handful of European airline crews, so the standards are consistently maintained. Traveling from Dorval airport one can take either a taxi for around C$30 or L'A
  8. I have stayed here multiple times over the years, both via Priceline and otherwise. Hotel is a historic building in downtown Vancouver that has been renovated and rebranded as a Crowne Plaza. Location is absolutely fantastic. It is right across the street from the Pacific Centre mall and within walking distance of everything of importance for either business or pleasure. Hotel staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you out with any problems. Requests for late checkout, early checkin, luggage storage, package delivery, etc... are all handled efficiently without any fuss. Rooms are typically small considering the age of the building but are very nicely appointed with modern amenities. High Speed Internet is available FREE in every room as well as in the Business Center. Restaurant, bar and room service are available till reasonable hours, but there are plenty of other food options available within walking distance too including 24 hour places. Overall a splendid property and definitely two thumbs up. Superb value for the priceline bid price.
  9. Old bid, but for a property not mentioned yet on these forums. It should be noted that this bid was made in the middle of SARS, so tourist traffic to Canada was a lot lower than normal - hence the normal May rates will probably be higher. Check-In Date: Thursday, May 1, 2003 Check-Out Date: Saturday, May 3, 2003 Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia 801 West Georgia Street Vancouver, British Columbia V6C 1P7 604-682-5566 Your Offer Price: $31.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $62.00 (US dollars) Taxes: $6.20 (US dollars) Processing Fee: $5.95 (US dollars) Total Charges: $74.15 (US dollars)
  10. I have stayed at this property a few times over the years. The hotel is located on airport property and one can walk there by using the walkway that cuts through the parking decks. I do not reccomend this if you have luggage though. They also provide a regular shuttle service between the hotel and the terminals, so that would be a better option in that case. Rooms are small, but typically European. Amenities are adequate but all incidentals ranging from phonecalls to minibar purchases are horrendously expensive. Business Center is also expensive, but decently equipped. Breakfast buffet in the coffee shop is actually very nice, but expensive (around 20 Euros). As a HHonors Gold VIP, they gave me a free breakfast coupon but I wouldn't pay for it seperately. Staff are helpful and friendly. All in all, its a decent property but absolutely not a luxurious one that deserves the 5* rating it carries.
  11. I stayed at this property in January 2004 and was extremely pleased by it. Hotel staff were very helpful and addressed me by name everytime after I checked in. Location is very convenient just around the corner from Zurich HB from where it is only 10 mins train ride to the airport. Plenty of eating and shopping places nearby. I found the room to be pretty large by European standards, but looking at the floor map I found that they had put me in a corner room which seemed larger than most others on the floor. Bathroom amenities were wonderful. Can't remember the brand offhand but very luxurious. All in all, definitely an excellent property.
  12. I stay here every few weeks whenever I have an early morning departure or late night arrival so I know the property very well by now. The hotel is a typical Marriott airport property, but it is the staff who truly put it in a class of its own. They never fail to go above and beyond even when they know you are on a priceline stay. Its the small things like proactively offering a late checkout when they find out in conversation that I have a transatlantic flight in the evening, offering to add my Marriott Rewards number to the folio to get points on incidentals, etc... that show that the staff do care. Hotel is located on Dixon Road about 5 minutes from the airport and within walking distance of virtually every other major property including the Holiday Inn Select, the Wyndham and the Hilton. Airport shuttle runs regularly from all 3 terminals from 5am to 1am, but is a shared bus with a couple other hotels. The hotel has an excellent Japanese restaurant, a decent coffee shop (which has a great breakfast buffet though) and a bar that stays open late and has food service. Room service is very efficient and will deliver freshly baked pizza 24 hours/day. A number of restaurants (eg. Outback, Kelseys, etc...) are located just a few blocks away as well, within walking distance in good weather. Every room has two phone lines, TV with On-Demand Pay-Per-View, TV Internet and High Speed Internet (for a fee). Furniture is also largely comfortable. Only drawback is that the bathrooms are a little small with the sink located seperate from the shower/WC. Covered and open parking is available on property with the first 30 minutes free, but getting progressively expensive beyond that. Public transit is very convenient with both TTC and GO Transit buses serving the Carlingview/Dixon intersection right across the street. Definitely a SUPERB value as a priceline property though.
  13. I stayed here in February 2004 for a single night. This is a newly renovated property that has recently joined the Starwood group. Room was decent sized with nice amenities including large TV, high speed internet, 2 line phone, etc... Hotel is located just off the airport's west perimeter, but about 10 minutes drive from the terminals which are on the east side of the field. Good view of the runways from anyone on a high floor, yet excellent soundproofing ensures no airplane noise. Airport shuttle is available from 5am to 12 midnight, but you have to call from arrivals to confirm your pickup. I was pleased with the service at it arrived within 10 minutes of my call. I was offered a late checkout as a SPG Gold, even though Starwood's new policy is no elite benefits on priceline stays. Hotel staff are enthusiastic and helpful, so it was an overall pleasant experience.
  14. Stayed here last August and was very pleased with the property. The shuttle bus runs sporadically (every 30-40 mins) so be sure to call them when you arrive to check when the next one is due to avoid long waits. It costs 5 Euro per person each way and can only seat 8 pax. There is also the #300 Connexion bus that runs from Schiphol directly to the hotel for 3.20 Euro. Travel time is 10-15 minutes on either. Property itself is very nice and modern (opened in April 2002). Rooms are large and quiet with nice views. Bathrooms are also oversized with seperate shower and tub. I cannot see why they would call it a 3* property and not a 4* property except maybe for the lack of swimming pool. It is however attached to a major entertainment complex next door (Claus! Partyworld) that is owned and operated by the same management so you can eat at any of their 3 restaurants and charge directly to your room. There is also a Bistro in the hotel as well as a 24-hour convenience store in the lobby. All in all, a very satisfying stay and an absolute steal at the rate paid (US$40)
  15. Old datapoint, but a significant one as an alternative to the usual 3* in the area. Surprised to see the bidding go so high since the retail rates were the same as usual. The Marriott is usually a solid bet for the low 30s, but they were hosting a number of officials for the GTAA T-New trials that weekend - hence the lack of priceline inventory and consequently the higher bid for the Four Points. I miss my Marriott!!! :) First attempt $30 - rejected Added Brampton $32 - rejected Added Scarborough $35 - rejected Added Toronto East - FINALLY! 16. Another old data point for this bread-and-butter YYZ Airport Zone bid. Check-In Date: Tuesday, June 1, 2004 Check-Out Date: Wednesday, June 2, 2004 Marriott Toronto Airport 901 Dixon Rd Toronto, Ontario M9W 1J5 416-674-9400 Your Offer Price: $30.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $30.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $8.82 (US dollars) Total Charges: $38.82 (US dollars)
  17. Old datapoint, but this bid is virtually a slam dunk for a YYZ Airport 3* without special events going on. Same day bid. Check-In Date: Saturday, February 7, 2004 Check-Out Date: Sunday, February 8, 2004 Marriott Toronto Airport 901 Dixon Rd Toronto, Ontario M9W 1J5 416-674-9400 Your Offer Price: $30.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $30.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $8.83 (US dollars) Total Charges: $38.83 (US dollars)
  18. Old, but useful datapoint for an otherwise unmentioned property here. After about 10 different attempts on different zones, levels and prices finally hit this for a same day bid. 23. Old but useful datapoint. I had plenty of time to bid this one, but it took me a couple weeks to hit the spot.
