  1. Tried first bid at $80 for a 3.5 star hotel in downtown Ottawa Got a counter offer for $100 which I rejected Second bid $85 - Rejected Third bid $90 - Accepted and was upgraded to a 4 star hotel I originally wanted to bid for the 4 star hotel Brookstreet in Kanata (attending the Hockey Game on Saturday night). Tried up to $130 with no luck, so changed my strategy. Thank you for everything!
  2. Hello, I actually live in Montreal and work in the building right across the Bell Center. The closed hotels to the arena are the Hilton, Hotel de la Montagne, the Marriott Chateau Champlain (not sure whether these two are on Priceline), the Sheraton, which you can get at a good price. There is also the Sofitel. A bit further away (say 20 mins walk from the Bell Center, but it is a fun walk down Sainte-Catherine) you will find, straight on the Place des Arts, which is a great area if you are interested in classical music and theaters, the Hyatt Regency Hotel that you can get as low as $61 on Priceline. It is a 4 star hotel, I myself got it for $75 and wrote a review about it. Hope this helps.
  3. Wow, $61! You got a great deal! Congratulations! I do not know whether you got the chance to read the review I wrote about this hotel. Beside the bad luck that hit me during my stay there I am fully happy and will gladly go back :-)
  4. First bid $60 for a 4 star hotel in Montreal. Did not win. I realized I did not set up my bidding strategy correctly... Bid again for a 2 star hotel at $75, got upgraded to a 3 star. BTW The Hyatt is presented as a 3 star hotel in Priceline. However it does boast 4 stars at the entrance door. And to me it is definitively up to a 4 star hotel standard. Their lowest rate is $209 for one night. I was pretty happy with the deal I got.
  5. I was a bit wary because of the last review on this hotel so I was ready for the worse. However it went very well. At the reception area the lady simply made the comment that my bill was prepaid through Priceline. She took a print on my credit card and that was all. The staff was very polite, the bed exquisitively comfortable. Unfortunately something came up around 2 o'clock in the morning. The fire speaker went off but the sound was very faint. Enough to wake you up and make you wonder whence the noise was coming from... I eventually called up the reception; they told me they were aware of the problem and offered some ear plugs. I refused and requested some tape to seal the speaker off. Which they refused. However they agreed for me to watch any movie I would like free of charge, and offered me a free night for my next trip in any Hyatt Regency hotel. The noise stopped at around 4:00am. Needless to say, beside the fact that the room was indeed very comfortable and the bedding wonderful, my night was far from perfect. However they were very correct with me. Yes, something else... I thought I would be able to sleep late in the morning since checkout is at 12 o'clock, but at 9:30 somebody from Security knocked at the door until he got me out of bed because he was told to open the bedroom safety box... A mistake... which spoiled my morning fun... Checkout was smooth. As promised no additional charges were made to my card and i now have another free night at a Hyatt :-) All in all a dreadful night... Due to bad luck only... The hotel is great (the swimming pool is a bit small and there are no jacuzzis... none that I could see anyway), the staff very nice. I am more than willing to give it another try.
  6. Just spent 3 nights at the Comfort Inn in Vaughn. Booked two rooms from 3 nights from August 16 to August 19. Things have not changed from last review from Jer (a very complete review, may I add). Staff is friendly, rooms are comfortable and clean. As Priceline customers I was treated as a Prepaid member, no other mentions were made of it. We were provided rooms that were ackowledgely facing the 401 Highway, therefore very passing and noisy. However, with the double slide doors and the air conditioning on we did not hear the trafic. The last night we spent there however was terrible, my husband and I did not sleep until 5 am. This was due to some 50 wedding guests that are invaded the hotel. There was not much that could be done about it. I called the front desk twice and although they were very polite we were stuck with pretty inconsiderate neighbours who slammed their hotel door every 3 or 4 minutes... from 23:00 until 5:00... This did not prevent our youngest kids to sleep all throughout the night... Still, we would go back to that place. The price was unbeatable ($31 a night), which allowed us to go with all the kids (4). We went for 2 days to Canada Wonderland, very easy access through the 401. The Perkins restaurant across the street, a family restaurant, had very good food with friendly staff, and offer a 10% discount to Comfort Inn customers. On top of that the teenagers were able to enjoy the swimming pool at the Travelodge hotel by simply showing their Comfort Inn hotel passes. All in all, a great experience.
  7. This is my very first post and I tried as much I could to follow the rules. Priceline: Started bidding for 2 star hotels and up, North-York at $15. Got rejected. Increased price to $21 and added Toronto Downtown. Got rejected. Increased price to $24 and added Don Valley. Got rejected. Increased price to $31 and added another close up region (cannot recall which right now). Offer was accepted. Taxes and service fees $36.02 Total charges $222.02 We are going to Canada Wonderland, this is the closest hotel to it! :) It is also the very first hotel that is recommended by CW on their site. I checked the rates from the ChoiceHotels.com website (link from CW) and rates for this very hotel, same time period, start at $122.21 (CAN) and up (max $132.21). This is a very good deal. Hope this helps. -- Val.
