  1. I looked at all the hotels available on HOTWIRE and given the things you would like to do, If I were choosing, I would pick the 3 star hotel in Burbank/Universal city for $96. It's very close to the Universal City Walk which is always a happening location close to your hotel, it's very close to Hollywood and the Hollywood Bowl. Downtown is easily accessible from this location as well, and so is NBC studios in Burbank where the Tonight show is recorded. And as a couple of other people have mentioned, parking downtown is very expensive. Good luck with your trip. Majorca
  2. I've been to this hotel before, a friend of mine stayed there. And when Oprah was new to Chicago, she lived there for quite awhile. I used to always stay at the Sutton Place Hotel, which is a really great hotel, but now that I've learned how to bid on Priceline, I just can't bear even thinking of paying those kinds of prices again. The Sutton Place hotel is currently listed at $315 per night during that time period.
  3. I'll be in San Francisco for 5 days from 5-1-07 to 5-6-07 4* $80 Union Square West $85 Union Square East $90 Cathedral Hill (rebid zone) I won the Le Meridien San Francisco for $90 for 5 nights = $450 + 77.49 Taxes = $527.49 I checked the hotel website and their price per night was $339 per night + $47.63 tax which adds up to a total of $1933.15. A savings of $1405.66 off their best rate.
  4. Oh, I also forgot to put that I visited the hotel's website and their rate during my stay was a total of 746 GBP which equals $1463.00 and since I paid $601.68 for my stay, that was a savings of $861.32.
  5. :) Thank you to both of you. I appreciate your feedback, and so fast too. After looking at the different web sites and hotels, I decided to try priceline again. I thought about splitting my bid, but I really don't want to have to change hotels during the week. After getting such good prices in London, San Francisco, Boston, Washington DC, and New York, and seeing that people were booking 4* hotels at around $80, I thought I was going to get something in Chicago for less. It never occurred to me to check for conventions around that time. So thank you for that information I checked on Hotwire and they had a 4* hotel for $199, a 3 1/2* for $183, and a 3* for $161 so I thought I'd try a 4* for $175 on priceline and I got it. It's the Millennium Knicker Bocker. I got 5 nights at $175 = $875 + $151.12 taxes = $1026.12. I checked the Hotel Website and I the price for those 5 nights is $1240.55 - which makes a savings of $224.43. I'm just glad to have all my hotels booked through June now and I can move on to other things. Thank you to so much, Majorca
  6. I booked this hotel on 2-9-07. I'm sorry to say that I don't remember my specific bids because up until a couple days ago, I didn't write down my bids and I just signed up as a member here the other day. However, I do know that I wanted a 4 star hotel and not a hotel by the airport. I used to be able to get a junior suite at the Westin Copely years ago for $199. but now that place is so overpriced. And up until I started booking on priceline last year, I was able to get a corporate rate at the Four Seasons for $225. But now, thanks to this website, I am able to save so much money on Hotels. I got the Nine Zero hotel for 9 nights at $155 = $1395 + $201.02 taxes = $1596.92 grand total I checked the hotel website and their best available rate was $259 for a total of $2621.21 for my 9 day stay, which is a savings of $1024.29. Thank god for the internet and brilliant guys like thereuare who make websites like this. Majorca
  7. I'm going to be in London from 4-6-07 to 4-17-07. the first half being business and the second half being vacation. I had booked the second part from 4-12-07 to 4-17-07 and got the Copthorne for $100 so I decided that for the first part of my trip I'd just bid $100 in Kensington. I thought I'd get the same hotel, but it came up as the Holiday Inn. I was surprised, but I was ok with it. It's actually very close to the Copthorne, so changing hotels shouldn't be that big of an ordeal. Originally I booked 4-6-07 to 4-12-07, but then I decided to add another day because of my work, I wouldn't be able to check out of the hotel at check out time, usually 11 or 12pm and then check in at 3 at the other hotel. I just don't have time during the day to do all that so that I could check in to the Copthorne the evening of the 12th and not have to worry about having to be out of the room early on the 12th. The extra $100 is worth it for me to to my hectic schedule. 6 days @ $100 = $600 plus $120.68 taxes = $720.68 plus 1 extra night for piece of mind @ $100 + $25.69 taxes = $125.69 for a grand total of $846.37 for 7 days. I'm very happy and I'm looking forward to my trip Majorca
  8. I'm going to be in London from April 6 to April 17, 2007. Part of my trip is for business and part is for vacation. I decided to split up my bid because a friend is joining me after the business part of my trip is over, and I figured it wouldn't be so bad if I had to change hotels after my work was done. I started booking the second half my stay first from April 12 to 17, 2007, because I wanted to secure that part of my stay first, so this is how I bid 4* Kensington $85 add Westminster $90 add Mayfair/Soho $95 add Notting Hill $100 Got Copthorne Tara for $100 for 5 nights subtotal $500.00 + $101.68 Total $601.68 This is an amazing price for me. I have been traveling for years and I learned about betterbidding.com from consumer reports. I had never known how to book travel through Priceline. I usually used Expedia or something like that. I wish I had all the money that I spend in overpriced hotels over the years. I could buy a nice luxury car with it. I have stayed at the Copthorne Tara Kensington before and I was actually hoping to get this hotel, so I was happy when I did. It's in a great location tucked away just off the main boulevard. I stayed there last December and I loved the area because it was so much less crowded than some of the more central areas. I'd been in London in December before Christmas a few times before and last December I was completely dreading going to London in December again because it gets so jammed packed with people in the streets shopping. I even had my wallet picked pocketed out of my purse a couple of years ago and didn't even know when it happened. The staff there is very friendly and my room was comfortable. The bed was small - a double and I'm used of sleeping in a king size, but it was comfortable. I loved that it had a refrigerator instead of a mini bar. The tube was very close by so I could get to any where I needed easily. I loved Kensington street. Lots of nice little shops to look in. And the police were friendly and helpful. I was walking down the street and I was getting hungry, so I stopped a couple of cops and said "I'm hungry, where should I eat dinner?" and they pointed me to a lovely little Mediterranean restaurant, that was delicious and inexpensive and just a block off of Kensington. I'm glad I got this hotel again, because, , even though I like trying new things, sometimes I just like knowing what to expect. have a good day, Majorca
  9. I'm a newbie on this board, but I've lived in Los Angeles all my life so I can answer your questions. Downtown can be a good place to stay if you are going to do things like go to the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion or the New Music Center, or museums. Downtown is a lot cleaner than it used to be and is more user friendly. However, after dark, many parts become a ghost town because, people just don't do much hanging out in downtown. I've stayed downtown when I've had conventions I had to be at for 4 days and I've bought hotels on Priceline and once I got the Omni for $65, which is a great hotel, and once I got the Millennium Biltmore Hotel for $71, which is nice, but a much older hotel that has been renovated. The lobby is great, but the rooms have that old time feel to it. What was really interesting is that the contestants from American Idol were staying there and I could hear lots of practicing. Beverly Hills and Santa Monica Hotels are nice, but everything around is expensive, so if your are on a tight budget, these areas are hungry for your money. I would suggest Century City. I've gotten the Century Park Plaza for under $100 a couple times on priceline when I was there for an event. I live out in the valley, and I wanted to get a hotel and get ready for the event and relax and not have to drive home afterwards. Century City is very central in Los Angeles very close to Beverly Hills and closer to the beach than downtown. Westwood is also nice. It's very much college town and it's a great little area with ton of movie theaters and shops and restaurants. You will definitely need a car to get around. Every thing is just so spread out and public transportation is not very good in Los Angeles. If you stay out at the airport, you are actually pretty close to the beach (but you will still need a car to get there), but it is so far from everything else that some one on vacation would like to be close too. It's just really boring out at the airport. Century Boulevard is just one big row of hotels and parking structures. Hope that helps. Majorca
  10. I'm staying in Washington DC right now and I was watching the news and I heard that the norovirus was found today at the Crystal City Hyatt in Arlington. Those who were not sick were evacuated from the hotel and those that were sick stayed at the hotel. The virus is easily transmitted through food and liquids or by touching a contaminated surface before touching your face. The virus is very strong and lasts 3 - 4 weeks.
  11. I would like a 4* hotel in Chicago for 5 nights from 5-6-07 to 5-11-07 and I'm hoping to spend less than $100 per night. Here's what I've bid so far. 4* Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area - $70 - rejected add North Michigan Avenue - $75 - rejected add rebid zone Midway - $77 - rejected changed check out date to 5-10-07 and bid $80 - rejected changed check in date to 5-7-07 and bid $85 - rejected add Greater Chicago and bid $90 - rejected I really only want to stay in the Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area or North Michigan Avenue. I assume that I have to wait 72 hours before bidding again, is that correct. Any advice on this would be great. Thanks, Majorca
  12. On 2-9-07 I booked the Holiday Inn located at 2101 Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown, Washington DC from the Hotwire webiste for $154 per night for 7 nights ($1078.00 subtotal) plus $137.71 taxes for a total of $1215.71. This is my second time booking this hotel on Hotwire - the last time being in November 2006. I tried booking a hotel on Priceline first. I really wanted to stay in Georgetown, but I couldn't get priceline to approve any of my bids starting at $80 and going up to $154. I knew that there was a 3 star available on Hotwire for $154 so I stopped my bids on priceline at $154. Once that was rejected, I bought this hotel on Hotwire. The amenities listed on Hotwire are fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center laundry facilities. I really love this hotel. The rooms are a nice size, nothing spectacular, but roomy and clean. The hotel staff is friendly. But the thing I love the most about this hotel is the location. I love walking around Georgetown. So many shops and restaurants. Also, there is a grocery store a couple within walking distance a few doors down and the hotel provided a refrigerator at my request. I usually only book 4* hotels where ever I go, but I hotel is as good as many of the 4* star hotels I have stayed at in the past.
