  1. Just returned from a stay at the university inn. It's listed as a 2.5 star but that's a stretch. Here's the scoop. this is a fairly large 1960's motor lodge that somebody is sinking $ into. It's a great cheap alternative for college kids from opposing teams to stay in when playing UNC. Rooms are clean and have been remodeled with new albeit days inn type furniture. The bathroom ceiling was 6.6 ft as the inadequate hvac runs over head. Our room came equipped with an additional floor fan and a dehumidifier to support the ac that struggled even though it's eary fall. On the plus side, they've put in a beautiful pool, invested in beautiful landscaping and they have an amazing sports bar/restaurant unlike what you'd typically find at a days inn. Desk clerks were uninspired and not very well trained. I was first told that since I booked via hot-wire we would only be able to get a smoking room. They offered to febreeze it if we needed. I inquired about their policy to better understand how they handled hot-wire. Was really more curious than irritated. After about 5 min of typing the clerk informed me that he found me a nonsmoking king room. Typically I use HW and PL to try to get a 3 star room at a 2 star rate. In this case i was thrilled to get any room for under $100 on a game weekend. I'd argue with the 2.5 star rating but would into argue with the $51 price!!!
  2. ooops....Date of the stay is Saturday, 10/8/11. UNC has a home game vs Louisville that day....I was absolutely floored that this was a available.
  3. It's the university inn. 2.5* $46 .... Just booked this hotel myself
  4. Most likely University Inn near UNCcampus... I just booked it on hotwire.
  5. Several have asked about the $46 2.5* hotel in chapel hill with the Following amenities: pool, tennis courts and fitness Center. I just booked it on a football Saturday!! It was the University Inn only 2miles from UNC campus. Website looks great. Will add comments after I have first hand experience.
  6. For what its worth, Asheville just isn't that large. Staying in the Biltmore area is hardly a big loss if you want to hang out downtown. Granted, you won't be able to walk there from your hotel, but its not like you're in Atlanta and its going to be a 1 hour drive!
  7. Started bidding at $45...2nd bid at $50 was accepted. 3* Holiday Inn & Suites on Tunnel Road. This is NOT the Holiday Inn Resort. Date of stay: 8/11/11...this is a weeknight about 1 week prior to students returning to UNC Asheville.
  8. Crowne Plaza Resort: 3* $66 on Hotwire...total = $79. This is a reasonably nice Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Resort...I've stayed there before happily. Nice deal for a holiday weekend in Asheville! date: 5/29/10 ds
  9. Crowne Plaza Resort: 3* $66 on Hotwire...total = $79. This is a reasonably nice Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Resort...I've stayed there before happily. Nice deal for a holiday weekend in Asheville! ds
  10. For 2/18/11, Downtown Doubletree. Bid 40, 45, accepted on 50 thanks for everyone's help
  11. Began bidding at $29 for 2.5 * hotels in Greensboro, NC worked regions 1,2,3,4 Succesful bid at $38 Clarion Hotel on Swing Road total net = $52 after tax and fees Date of stay: 1/26/11 Called hotel to ensure I could get a King bed instead of 2 queens. no problem
  12. Started bidding for 4* and 3.5 * hotels at $45 in $5 increments. $70 bid was accepted for Saturday, 12/19/09. Sheraton on the Falls is a 4* hotel. Bid through BetterBidding website's PRICELINE link. Thanks for this service! david scruggs
  13. I've also stayed at this property. It is considered a "resort", I believe, because it is located on a golf course which I've never played, but was not overly impressed with when I walked it. The rooms I've stayed in had been recently renovated and were extremely nice. Though I much prefer the Renaissance as a 3 Star win, I'd never thumb my nose at this property. Its tough to find a good priced hotel in Asheville at times, especially if you'd like to be close to the beautiful downtown area!
  14. My mistake re: Rating.... Crown Plaza is a 3*, not 3.5* Thanks!
  15. Used PRICELINE to book a room in Asheville for a Saturday night, May 9 for $45 bid. I think this is a 3.5 star priceline resort. I've stayed here before and loved it. $45 was my first bid...I was shocked to hit first time out. djscruggs
  16. Used PRICELINE to book a room in Chapel Hill, NC for June 8, 2009. 3* Hilton Homewood Suites was booked for $40 bid...it was my first bid, so who knows how much lower it could be?! Thanks for all you do on this board!! djscruggs
  17. I used PRICELINE to book a room for June 8 Successful bid was $50 for the 3.5* Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel located next to the Hotel Europa. I'm assuming that $50 was the lowest bid for 3.5*, as I later came back and booked a 3* hotel for $40 for a friend (Homewood Suites, 3*). Thanks to everyone for this wonderful site. david
  18. Just booked a 3* hotel in Richmond West for $36 bid. One night stay 11/2 (Sunday night) in the Sheraton West End. Checked the advertised rate for same room via Expedia = $154. Thanks David
  19. Went to SavingsBarn to bid via Priceline. Today's date is Feb 5, 2008. Wanted a 3* hotel in Midtown (going to Westiminster dog show!!). Began bidding at $95. Finally successful at $115 with Novotel, MTW. Got 2 rooms for 2 nights: Feb 11-13. Thanks to BetterBidding for providing such a GREAT service!!!
  20. Forgot to mention the dates: $85 bid was accepted for a stay on 11/18/07 (bidding started at $60) Renaissanace Hotel, Asheville $85 bid was accepted for a stay on 9/14 & 15 (2 nights)
  21. I've stayed twice at this Renaissance while UNC-A is in session. Both times, I started bidding at $60 and was successful at $85. With PL's markup, its a total of $102. My wife feels like the Renaissance is one of the nicest places she's stayed in anywhere, PLUS its only a block away from the downtown district. Hard to beat! david scruggs
  22. 2/11/07. Just booked a room at $43 for a Friday night on first try. Perhaps bid too high, but was in a hurry.
