My wife and I just returned from New York after going to through some travel headaches. To make the long story short, we rented an apartment for the week on the upper west side. We showed up and the place was a dump. The guy let us out of our contract, but we still needed a place to stay. After making some calls, I realzed the average rates were all above $300 due to the Holiday season. A friend helped us out the first two nights and hooked us up at the Manhattan Shearaton for $129 a night. I jumped on priceline the next day and was able to get the Millennium Broadway for $139 a night for 5 nights. I checked their web site to see what the going rate was. The normal rate would have been $369/night.
