  1. I agree, that is an excellent price for York (and a pool!). I had pretty much given up staying anywhere near city centre. We're doing a few days in York and then up to Edinburgh. I have been shocked at the prices in both cities. The only deals to be had around Edinburgh are in Glasgow, and we don't really want to stay there. It's amazing to me that these places are more expensive than London, even during their "shoulder season."
  2. Lonestar--I looked forever for affordable accomodation in York, and finally found something that sounds really nice, but it's outside of York. They're self-catering cottages that charge a flat 60 pounds a night. I will be traveling with 3 other adults, so the pppn thing was not doing us any favors. They're right outside of Harrogate, about an hour from York. www.nidderdalecottages.com
  3. Thank you for the bus tip blindman; I was trying to find a way to avoid the hotel hoppa and was about to give up.
  4. Hello. Only bid $31 for a 3 star in the heathrow area, accepted on the first try by the Novotel Heathrow. Their airport shuttle is apparently not free, but still a good rate I think. Total with taxes came to $43.56. Bid was for a Saturday night.
  5. Thank you everyone; I found the hotel Sainte Marie for 54 euros for a double with shower; it's very well reviewed though it's a one star, and located in the second arrondissement. This is actually the only website where I've seen such negativity about one stars; from what I've read in tripadvisor and virtualtourist, it really has more to do with amenities (conference room, spa, etc) than quality, and some 3 stars get horrible reviews compared to the one I've picked. Just wanted to let people know what I'd bid; I appreciate the information websites like this can provide.
  6. well, from what i've seen, there are no hotels in central paris for less than $50, one star or otherwise. if I'm wrong, tell me where else I should be looking.
  7. Just wanted to put my 2 cents into the board. I have given up on priceline for paris, and am going to reserve a one star that's been well reviewed on frommers forums and trip advisor.
