  1. Connected to PRICELINE through betterbidding. We were seeking a little family getaway with a pool. Opening bid was $49...bingo. Their outdoor pool was under construction last time I was there...hope it's open. Good hotel. Good price.
  2. Thanks...I tried that "extend your stay" option and was offered another nite at $199... Today I bid on 1/1-1/4 for a 4* and ran out of rebids at $71. Maybe there's a big conference at the Scottsdale R&C Center on those dates. That makes me think that the hotwire hotel for $68 is not this one. The good news is that my lovely wife is so happy with my $49 win that she is willing to change hotels mid-vacation...so that may be our fate. I'm going to lay in the weeds for awhile...
  3. 2 weeks ago, I bid on a 4* in Scottsdale for 12/27-1/4 and gave up when I got up to $71. Today I reduced my window to 12/27-1/2 and I got the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center on my first bid...for $49...I guess I should have shot lower. But I'm very happy! Now I've got to find the other 3 nites...
  4. Well...I got creative and noticed that the front end of my vacation was cheaper than the back end. So I narrowed my search on PRICELINE to 12/27-1/1 for a 4* in Scottsdale. I started my bidding at $49...and lo and behold, I hit pay dirt...I got the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center. I had bid the whole trip up to $71 2 weeks ago with no luck so I was looking for other options. I really don't want to talk my wife into changing hotels mid-vacation...so now I need 3 more nights at the same resort. HOTWIRE is still showing the same hotel description I mentioned above for 1/1-1/4 for $68/nite. If I knew it was the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center I'd grab it...instead, I'm biting my nails... I'll post my win on the other forum... ...and let you know the final chapter...
  5. I'm very comfortable with priceline, since it's my go-to spot for hotel discounts. I have much less confidence on hotwire, having only used it a couple of times. My concern is that hotwire lists the Doubletree by Hilton Paradise Valley as a 4* (priceline rightly rates it a 3 1/2*). Can anyone tell me if the Doubletree is considered to be in the Scottsdale zone according to hotwire. My dilemma: I would welcome the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center at this rate...but not the Doubletree Paradise Valley...
  6. I am looking on Hotwire for 12/27-1/4 This 4* hotel is offered for $66 a night Scottsdale •Resort•Smoke Free Rooms•Pool(s)•Restaurant(s)•Fitness Center•Golf Nearby•Spa Services•Internet access•Business Center•Tennis Nearby•Airport Shuttle•Free Parking•Free Internet•Pet friendly Is this the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center?
  7. The beauty of 4* hotels in the Lou is that you can currently rebid every zone. I was hoping for the Rennassaince Grand this time but the Hyatt is a great hotel...
  8. Needed another night coming back so started the bidding at $49. I was offered a win if I upped it $10 to $59. Instead I added a rebid zone and bid $50. I'm happy! Does anyone know if they hqave a shuttle service that will take you to shopping areas or a restaurant?
  9. We needed an airport hotel since our son is flying out early in the a.m. The Renaissance was listed at $119 so I expected to get the Hilton Airport because it was listed at $84. You never know. I started at $45 and did one rebid zone. If you haven't been, it's a very nice airport hotel and they recently remodeled the lobby... I'm trying to payback betterbidding for the helpful info in the past...I haven't posted the way I should have...regrets...
  10. My wife and I are laying over in Dallas on our way to Puerto Vallarta. I had tried a month or so ago several times but my bids got up over $70 and so I decided to wait until closer to our desired date to attempt again. With 16 rebid zones in my pocket I was braced to do battle and...BINGO...my first bid was accepted! Would have preferred the Grand but I won't be greedy...
  11. I went on the regular pick your price at priceline and entered the dates of 8/27 - 8/28 and the hotels that showed up didn't include the Marina Del Rey Hotel. So I thought I could bid then and maybe extend my stay if I liked the hotel. I bid $108 and got rejected. So I checked again for 8/27 - 8/29 and still no Marina Del Rey...it had shown up on my broader searches. Anyway I bid $112 and my bid was accepted...you guessed it: Marina Del Rey Hotel. So I got burned trying to be clever! I guess I'll try to fill in around those dates by going on Hotwire. However Hotwire isn't offering the 3.5* for 8/24-27. Is there a chance it will show up again if I try later on?

  13. I hadn't considered Hotwire. Do you have a guess what the 3* is on Hotwire. If that was the Doubletree, I might go that way
  14. I was going over my records and found that I got the Bakersfield Four Points for one night on 2/28/06 through priceline for $61.41 including tax. It was a very nice hotel! In fact, my plans changed and I decided to stay an extra night...I had to pay the rack rate...$152.20...ouch! Lesson: plan ahead. Sorry about the dalayed report and thanks for all the help on this forum!!
  15. My records show that I spent $326.70 for 4 nights at the Hyatt. I used a conference rate directly to the hotel. Thanks for all the help on this forum... Next time I'll finish the post when I remember the details...sorry
  16. Sorry about that...I'm looking back over my records to remember the outcome of that. I'll post it when I do...

  18. I'm looking to get a 3* in Santa Monica beginning on Aug 24th for as many nights as I can...I'll actually be staying through Sept 4. I'm worried about bidding on a 3* in Santa Monica for fear that I may get the Marina Del Rey. The clear consensus on tripadvisor is that this place is a dump. Can anyone help me with a strategy. I'm willing to pay up to $125 a night but I will be weeping if I bid that and get a dump. Thank you
  19. Thanks for the advice. My intent is to raise my price and follow your strategy. I'll let you know how it plays out.
  20. I'm hoping to get the Hyatt in valencia for 5 nites beginning on Feb 28th. I bid $49 on the 3 star hotels in valencia and was rejected. I'm new to this forum but have read the great info by Thereuare on how to bid before 72 hours. My problem is that I can't find another area around valencia with less than 3 stars. Do you have any suggestions for me? I could use a strategy!! I'd be willing to pay up to $60. Thanks.
