9/11-13. $208 on Hotwire. The Plaza is $289 on Expedia. I'm willing to pay $208 for the just about any legitimate 5* for these nights but I'm concerned this might be the "St. Regis Club" at the Essex House which I am told is not really 5*, but is passed off as such on Expedia, etc. Thanks.

when are you going? I've stayed here many times, but only in January. It's an excellent resort. I'm surprised its a 4* and not 5*.

the problem is that Hotwire wants between $268 and $310 a night for 4* hotels on these dates (vs. $150 next week for Tribeca Grand). but your advice is sound and appreciated.

has anyone successfully bid on a 4* in lower Manhattan? do you know which hotels are likely to come up? unlike Hotwire, Priceline groups Soho/ Tribeca with the Wall Street/ financial area. I'd like to get a 4* Soho/ Tribeca hotel (like the Soho or Tribeca Grand, Mercer, etc) for 9/11-9/13, but fear that I might get one of the Wall Street/ financial properties instead. I'd appreciate any past experiences in "lower Manhattan." Thanks,
