  1. We decided this morning to head to Charleston for the weekend. Since we are going to the waterpark and not downtown or beaches, we thought we could save a few bucks and pick the airport zone this time which also would cut our 3hr drive time down by 20 minutes each way. Worked out well as we had won this Sheraton hotel almost two years ago for a similar price for a concert. Started bidding at $45 and was immediately offered a counter by Priceline at $59. I declined and added empty zones at 47,49,51 and finally the winning bid at $52. I know the hotel is a bit outdated, as all of the hotels in this star class near the airport are. They are slowly trying to upgrade but everything we know about it aside, certainly cant complain for the price. Its exactly what we were expecting to come away with for star class/price. Happy bidding.
  2. I can add some color to this resort as well since I stayed there, with my family no less. I have to agree with most of the review. The rooms were super small, especially for a "resort" and were so outdated. The bathroom was so small that the door couldnt be opened all the way if someone was in the bathroom and there was, as a nice way to describe it, noticeably wear and tear throughout the room. When we checked in on Friday night, were became very nervous as to how the weekend was going to go. We asked for a place to go for breakfast in the area and the place offered to us by the front desk was closed that day. The front desk people never seemed to care at any point I saw them interacting with myself or other guests. We had a wonderful view of the garbage cans and although pictures show a beach, it is very misleading and not a beach to really play on because of the drop off to the marina and not a walk into the water type beach. Where our visits differed was in the rest of the experience. The people who worked at the bar and restaurant and around the pool were great. The pool was just what we needed and the boys loved the shuttle to Sullivans Island. The best part was the childrens camp they had that Sunday morning. We took a chance at paying a few bucks extra to give the kids some activities (and ourselves a half day to relax) and they loved it. They pulled up crabs from the dock, made thier own t-shirts which we still have a year later and did a nature walk and various other kid friendly activities. The experience we had around the pool and with this childrens camp almost made up for the room debacle. Frankly, I was convinced we were getting a bid in Wild Dunes. I did not realize this resort (and I use the term loosely) actually had a Mt Pleasant address. If not for seeing thier faces after the camp, it would have been a total disappointment. I wouldnt pay more than $100 a night for this place. The bar is cool and hidden away enough that it would be the type of place I would go if we still lived close and didnt want to deal with crowds and tourists.
  3. I booked this trip back on May 24th but had not had a chance to post my results yet. Long time lurker on the site, first time posting as this was a resort/condo that was unreported before and I thought we could all use the help. The key distinguishing amenities listed were: Resort, 1 bedroom suite, Beachfront property, fully equipped kitchen, Childrens activity program, Washer and dryer in room, Indoor pool(s), free internet, free parking. The rest were all common. For us the key was the 1 bedroom suite as I typically would not spend as much as we did here. I did not want to bid on priceline and end up with a hotel room for 2 adults, 2 kids and a baby. After I called the resort with questions, the price at $184 per night at peak summer time turned out to be only $15 off per night than the regular rate for that specific room type at that resort. The difference was that by calling Avista resort reservations or going to thier website, you can only book 3 night reservations so I did not even consider that this would be the resort that it would give us because we only have 2 nights. I am happy with the result based on pictures, tripadvisor review and knowing the suite is 750 sq ft with the bedroom and living room seperated by the full kitchen. I usually use hotwire to get a base price and priceline to bid lower than that base price but with the whole family going, I couldnt take any chances on not getting a 1 bedroom suite. Ive done better but understand it is prime time for Myrtle and am happy with the result. Happy bidding!
