This is great thereuare, I wish I had know about this before .... I will however be armed with it in the future!!!
Thanks...
...even worse than expected .... but for $27, can I really complain ...???
No inside corridors for most of the rooms .... the rooms are small, smelly and resemble what you would find at those no-name 1* motels ... at least the furniture is up to date.
I have found myself at the univ. of cincinnati for lack of finding internet access anywhere else ... hopefully, now I will find a Panera or Starbucks that offers WIFI...
Not another Holiday Inn...!!! :) After staying at the rundown HI Select in Dallas (right next door to an adult video store) ... I am sick of them ... and this one is looks even worse. I was hoping for a Courtyard .... which around here offers free high-speed but no luck.
My connection flight back to Toronto got cancelled tonight and I decided to spend a few extra nights here checking out KY/OH. Delta's excuse was a shortage of crew members and for that they gave us a toothbrush, one night at a Country Inn and Suites (nice, brand new hotel) and a $10 meal voucher :)
I tried bidding for a rental up to $22 all sizes and got rejected. I ended up booking on Expedia for $22.98 for a compact.
For the hotel, I started with 2.5* at $25 and got a counter to add $6 .... tried $26 and was finally accepted at $27

I totally agree Phaelon ... the espresso started tasting bad :) a long time ago over at TOBB.
Betterbidding truly represents what a message board "community" should be all about .... hats off to Thereuare again and again...!!!
Thanks, I should have really thought about this before ... when I was in school last year, the school's coverage was terribly inadequate and I still owe for medical bills from my mishap in Seattle ... hopefully, I'll get my settlement soon. I am now looking to shop for an "anual plan" which means you are covered for one year but only for visits to the US that are less than 212 days ... or look for a credit card which provides automatic coverage ... those have high deductibles I imagine though.
My dad made me aware of this ... As a Canadian, our free healthcare does not fully cover us in the US so I just purchased over the phone 11 days worth of coverage for about $30 from CAA (same as AAA in the US). I didn't shop around at all .... does anyone have any suggestions for next time...???
Belated congrats Squeegee....The way I figure it, every time one of you guys ties the knot it gives me a bit more breathing space and I can continue postponing marriage. I think I'll save it for retirement.
Sooo.... will the honeymoon acomodations be a la Priceline?
Thanks, I am starting to enjoy having a long distance relationship ... we get to meet up and travel every month or so .... this time, we are meeting in Texas for 11 days starting Dec 25th...
For the honeymoon .... I am looking at Priceline's cruise specials .... 14 day trans-Atlantic for $700 including port charges or 11 day Eastern Carrib for $650 ... the same ones are $100 more on Travelocity. We are still unsure of dates ... so nothing in the works yet.
My cousin just bid this ... she first tried $22 and got a counter-offer to add $6, than tried $23 which is usually the magic number but got another counter to add $8 ... she than tried $24, $25 and won at $26.
With taxes and fees $33.72
I drive through here all the time .... the Markham zone actually also includes parts of Richmond Hill.
The 2.5's are Hilton Garden Inn, Marriott Rez Inn or Courtyard by Marriott ... the one you posted is most likely the Courtyard as it does not show a free breakfast ammenity and I have never seen the Hiltons pop up yet ... they may not be participating...???
The 3.5's could either be the Sheraton Gateway (most likely) which is an older hotel built into shopping/movie complex and also attached to a Best Western. Also, in the area are a Hilton Suites, a new Radisson and unlikely to be a 3.5 * but an older Holiday Inn and Suites.
You best bang for the buck is to bid on Priceline .... $23 for a 2.5* and you will most likely get that Couryard ... it is brand new, great rooms and service and also offers free highspeed internet ... you really can't go wrong. It seems to be available all the time....
Tried to bid for the Hyatt for $35, then $40. Gave up and settled for the Candlewood suites. My cousin who I.D. I am using just recently won a bid for this hotel for roughly the same dates. No chance in New York City.

Overall, this hotel has got better reveiws then the doubletree.
Thanks for the update ... I'll be sure to test the shower as soon as I check in ... (Dec 25)
Were you upgraded with an SPG card or just like that...???
My cousin got this ... she first tried $21 and than got it on her second shot at $23. Surprising that this hotel's rate does not fluctuate with the Canada/US dollar like other Canadian hotels...???
Bid through savingsbarn for my cous...
Tried $40 for a 4* - rejected...
Than, $35 for 3*and accepted .... we tried $35 instead of lower first hoping the Hilton Garden Inn was accepting because it is more central.
Bid through savingsbarn for my cousin...
We needed Dec 26 to Jan 1 ... but could not get all the dates so we split up the bid...
We are thinking of doubling the diff through Hotwire for Dec 29-31 .... Hotwire wants $177 while Hyatt.com lists $109
We got Philly for Dec 27 one night...
A great place to start is www.casinoniagara.com .... click on the link for accomadations ... although, I do not know if they will let you book so far in advance? Being a weekday, I definitely would not pay more than $45US ... given that it is also just at the beginning of the peak season.
Expedia's rates are very competitive for Niagara too...
Bid through savingsbarn...
Made a mistake on this one ... I added this zone thinking it was a free rebid .... afterwards, Hotwire had a 3* in this zone for $30 so I could have gotten it for less...
I bid Galleria 3* $25, $27 and than added East Dallas - Mesquite $30 to win this potential dump....!!! After reading Joe's posts .... I could already see the yellows and reds of the Renaissance. Shocking to read those words "Holiday Inn" .... mind you, one of my still fav hotels of all time was the HI Select in Montreal ... hopefully, this will compare favorably. No reviews posted anywhere....

I tried 4* downtown up to $60 and 3* up to $45
I considered 2*'s downtown as the La Quinta's go for in the high $30's with free parking but wanted to at least celebrate in style...
Hotwire listed a 4* in the NW for $57 ...
Tried $40, $45 and got a counter-offer to add $17 .... tried $48 and got it!!!
Great reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g6...onio_Texas.html Although, Expedia lists this as a 3*

Tried 4* Galleria up to $50 for the Omni (would have been my first AAA 5-star rated hotel)
Tried 3* IAH $30 got a counter to add $8
Tried 3* $25 than $30 and got a counter-offer to add $8 for Downtown/Southwest/Brook Hollow/Clear Lake-Nassau Bay (+ free rebid zones) ... than won at $33
I assumed I would get the Doubletee Downtown or Sheraton Brook Hollow, was shocked to get this ... pictures on the website make the rooms look like they are out of the 1960's....!!! I found one review on trip advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews...ston_Texas.html

I am meeting my 'fiance' for a long holiday and traveling throughout Texas for 11 nights...
I had a choice of flying into either IAH or DFW ... so, I decided whichever accepts my car bid, I would pick. I tried IAH first and was rejected $13-$16 .... and than, got a little ancy and bid the $16 (posts show $15 is the magic number) after getting rejected on $15 for a standard and $16 for a full...

Bid through savingsbarn for my uncle...
Well, bidding for this hotel is like playing a slot machine .... we actually cheered when we got the acceptance. I tried yesterday to get it for another relative and was rejected. We are thinking of chancing it on hotwire and than getting the double the difference refund as hotwire lists a 3.5 star for $261 while Hyatt.com has an internet special of $119 and Doubltree has one for $109. The only catch is still the Sheraton Suites which falls into the zone .... I wonder though, if hotwire would list a suite icon as it is an all-suite hotel and also, if we could get a refund after winning it by saying we did not want a suite (not cozy???)
Helped a friend bid this through savingsbarn...
Bid History:
3* Bellevue/downtown $35, $39
2.5* Bellevue/downtown $30, $32, $35
3* Lynwood $35, $39
2.5* Lynwood/Bothell/Redmond $32
3* Renton $35 accepted...!!!
She didn't really care where they won as long as it was somewhat close to downtown and reasonably priced.
3* Quebec City Chateau Laurier
in Priceline Hotels - Canada

A friend of mine got this on a last minute bid... (not to be confused with the Fairmont property by the same name in Ottawa...!!!)
