My first bid was for $50 for 3.5* in Innsbrook and was rejected. Btw, the 3.5* hotel in Innsbrook is the Hilton out by Shortpump mall. Very swanky and can usually be bid successfully around $65.

My second bid included 3 and 3.5* in Innsbrook and was accepted at $50.

I was really hoping for the Hyatt though. They have a free continental breakfast and the Marriott costs ~$9. Dang it.

I did use the betterbidding.com link to place the booking, btw.

  4. According to the priceline.com terms of service, reservations made through priceline cannot count towards hotel rewards programs. It's just part of the deal when you get that big honking discount on your stay.

However, I've found that the hotel staff are frequently happy to add my hotel membership number if I ask them directly. I usually approach it by asking them to check whether my hotel membership number is associated with my stay. If it isn't, I ask politely if they can add it and many times they will. I'm not sure if this is because their front desk staff are not trained properly or because they're doing me a favor but it makes me a happier customer as a result.

I think the best time to do this is during peak traffic hours for check in/check out since the hotel staff are less prone to go the extra mile and check my reservation source.

Occasionally, I will get rejected but usually I just ask again when someone else is working the desk and there's no problem.

    Hope this helps,

    The Old Man

  5. Overall, nice hotel. I had a few annoyances with it though.

    My Critique

TV: Large ~50" widescreen LED TV. Slow to change channels (~2 seconds to change channels) and limited selection (standard HBO channel not available). Channel surfing was slow and annoying.

Room layout: Sink outside bathroom. "Living room" separated from bedroom by a partial partition. Wet bar and refrigerator in living room. Small desk in living room.

Bed: King. Very comfortable with clean white sheets of good quality. No complaints.

Other Furniture: Sofa with footrest, mini-fridge, wet bar. No nightstand but had small shelf next to bed ... a little cramped to put keys, phone, computer, etc on.

Internet: Free wireless. No cable option. Quality of connection was very slow and could not sustain a Skype connection. I was told this was because I was at the far end of the hall but my wireless connection strength registered as Excellent with 11kbps speed. Still, it was slow as molasses.

    Bathroom: No fan in bathroom.

Comments: No cold water in room. My room was at the west far end of the halls and I didn't have any cold water. Turning on the cold water at the tap gave me warm water. In the winter this would be great but in the heat of the summer this is just annoying. I had to fill glasses with water and refrigerate them to get a cold drink.

  6. Bid $48 for Richmond West and was accepted by the Ramada Plaza Hotel. This is the old Sheraton hotel. It's in a little disrepair but now has free internet access although it's not a speedy connection e.g. I can't reliably use Skype to talk to my family on it.

I was hoping to get the Embassy Suites which sometimes has rooms in this zone and at this star level but no such luck.

If memory serves, you should be able to get this hotel for much less than $48. If I were to bid over again and knowing that the Embassy Suites isn't available atm, I'd start at $35 and work my way up.

Btw, I used the PRICELINE link to place my reservation. While doing this, I was thinking that it would be nice to have some sort of point system on this website to be able to track this activity. Maybe tied in with some sort of small reward system e.g. at 10 link uses, you get a star next to your name, etc.

This is my favorite hotel in all of Richmond. Fantastic in every way, shape, and form. Free breakfast in the morning. Free drinks at night. Free wireless internet all the time. Microwave and refrigerator in the room. The interior courtyard looks like a tropical jungle and the pool and sauna are like you're in a resort.

My only complaint is that this doesn't come up on priceline very often.

This is the old Sheraton hotel at the same location. Seems like they have bought out by Ramada. One big advantage is that there is now FREE WIRELESS INTERNET! Woohoo!

[Edit] Forgot to put the winning bid price in the topic and now can't modify it. $48.
