  1. Stayed Feb 3-4th. Check in was smooth, room was nice, clean. Internet was available for a fee. I would say it lives up to its rating. The room appeared to have been recently remodeled. The lobby can get pretty cold this time of year as there is a walkthrough to the pedestrian mall connected. It's not really feasible to hang out in the lobby on COLD winter days. Also got pretty noisy around 2-3 AM as the bars were letting out and you could hear people leaving. But it wasn't that big of a deal. I would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in a great downtown location. It's located on a walking mall w/ lots of restaurants/shops/bars nearby.

  2. My parents stayed here 01/19/05 for one night while I stayed at the Hotel Galvez. They loved it. It's a very large hotel. All rooms are ocean view w/ a balcony. They said their room was good sized and very clean. Pool area was very large as well. Were treated very well by the staff. The grounds were very well maintained.

  3. Stayed here 1 night 01/19/05. Older hotel but very nice. Room was on the smaller side but clean. Pool area was very nice, too cold to swim though when we were there. Hotel is right across the street from the beach. Free newspaper on the hall. Didn't try the restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall, a very nice hotel. Would stay there again. From what I could see, I would rate it is one of the top 3 hotels in Galveston.

  4. Had a very interesting happening on this one. I was trying to get the Hotel Galvez for one night for my parents since we are staying there as well the same night. (Posted in a different post.) Turns out that the San Luis Resort now has the exact same amenities as the Hotel Galvez. Not sure if the other poster posted the incorrect amenities or if they changed them, but here is the result of my bid:

    1 room(s) @ $85.00 per night x 1 night(s) $85.00

    Taxes and fees: $17.95

    Hotel Total $102.95

    Amenities are:

    Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Tennis

Again (same as the Hotel Galvez)

I'll post a review of both when we return, but from what I know, they are both very nice. And both are on the ocean (across the street) so they're leaving that off of their amenity list.

  5. This was a prime example of making sure you pay attention to the amenities. I could've ended up in another area of town when we were wanting to be on the Gulf. When I first started investigating, only 1 3.5 star was listed (which was the San Luis Resort most likely). Well, it disappeared somewhere along the line and another 3.5 star came up and I never caught it. This one (the one I ended up getting) wasn't listed as being near the beach and I never would've bid on it if I had caught that. I think at the time I would've assumed that it was the Tremont and would've stayed away since it's more in town. (Supposed to be a real nice hotel though by the way.)

It worked out great in the end for me thought, as it is on the beach and is supposed to be a great hotel!

  6. Was a little surprised on this one, was expecting the San Luis Resort. Supposed to be a very nice hotel though and am very happy about it. I thought the San Luis was maybe the only 3.5 star on Hotwire, but I guess not. Just realized the amenities were different, and never caught it. Funny they don't say this is near the beach though since it's right on it basically.

    Amenities:

    Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Tennis

    1 room(s) @ $81.00 per night x 1 night(s) $81.00

    Taxes and fees: $17.95

    Total Price $98.95

  7. Needing a little help thereuare (or anyone familiar w/ this zone.) Galveston is listed as one zone and I'm looking at 3.5 star w/ the following amenities:

Hotel, Near Beach, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Golf Nearby, Tennis nearby, Business Center

    $80 1/19-1/20/05

Maybe the Hotel Galvez????? I have no familiarity w/ this area and am going on a hunch. I don't know if there are any other 3.5 star hotels in this area. I'm assuming that the Tremont might be but it isn't near the beach so I'm guessing this isn't it???

What do you think??? Thanks a lot!

  8. Needed a place to crash before flying out of Des Moines early Saturday morning. Not arriving at hotel til later Friday night so just needed a place to sleep. Went with a 2* and ended up with the Comfort Inn on Fleur, Des Moines Airport.

The amenities were complimentary breakfast, pool.

    2 room(s) @ $36.00 per night x 1 night(s) $72.00

    Taxes and fees: $15.95

    Total Price $87.95

Cheapest rate on their website was $67.49 (internet user's rage).

I'll post a review when we return.

(I noticed that this one isn't on the list yet by the way, might want to add. Will be nice to know something near the airport)

  9. Bid this for the Des Moines Marathon weekend and was pleasantly surprised to get this. All other downtown 3*s are sold out that weekend. Hotel is pretty much at the starting line to the race. Have stayed there in the past on non-priceline bid, real nice hotel. Hotel website had a pre-pay $109.65 rate.

  11. Paid $31/night. Pretty much a 2* hotel imho. The room was clean which is what was most important to me. Small room, all rooms have doors that are outside, no internal hallways. The free continental breakfast was quite good. Lots to choose from. Basically a good hotel if you're just there to sleep and not spend much time at the hotel. We were pleased and would return if this were the case. Nothing fancy or special but nice and clean and well kept.

  12. Hotel review:

Stayed 1 night, Friday, July 11th. Hotel was great, check-in took about 60 seconds, had the room I requested. All rooms are suites, nice and spacious. Hotel was very well upkept. Had a free cocktail reception from 5:30-7:30. Also had a free made to order breakfast in the morning, which was outstanding! Overall, very high marks. We definitely got our $82 worth!

  13. HOTEL REVIEW:

I thought it wouldn't hurt to review the hotel after we stayed there. Thought it was great. We requested early check-in, king sized bed, non-smoking and all were granted w/out a problem at all. Hotel was very nice, we had view of the river and Lake Michigan. We were treated no differently for being hotwire customers. Was my first hotwire experience and was a little nervous. I give the hotel very high marks.
