  1. Staying in NYC on 9/22 for 1 night. Have a reservation for $180/nt (+ tax) at Yale Club. Looking to see if I can do better ($170 total) elsewhere via priceline. Would like to be as close to Grand Central as possible - ideally midtown east, midtown west, or time square areas would work best. I have until 6pm on 9/21 to cancel the current reservation, so I have today and tomorrow to bid. Any advice? Thanks.

  2. I was bidding for a 3.5 star hotel in the Rye-White Plains section of Westchester for this past weekend. There were only three 3.5 star hotels, and all were about 1-2 miles from each other, so I didn't care where I stayed. I started at $65 and was rejected. I then added a 2.5 star to get a free re-bid, as there were no 2.5 star hotels in the Rye-White Plains area, and increased the bid to $70.

Much to my dismay, I was "upgraded" involuntarily to a 3 star hotel (Residence Inn White Plains) - one that was about 7 miles from where I was hoping to stay. The hotel ended up being fine, but I wasn't aware that Priceline could/would do that? If that's the case, then the free re-bid becomes risky, doesn't it?

    Am I missing something?
