  1. Yes, our flight is not until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, so might as well stay in the city as long as possible.  :)    But I waited a little too long to snag this one and the price had gone up to $229 (less the 5% discount).    Still very glad to be in a more central location and at a better price than my conventional booking.   I wasn't sure whether to use the price with the 5% discount or not in the title, so please  correct if needed. Thanks again for your help!

  2. Whew!  That was a lot of bidding and sadly, I went all the way up to all 5 zones plus the QB free rebid with no success.  It seems it's that last night of 9/9 which is really messing up the chances.  I was thinking of even staying near LGA that night since we're flying out the next morning.  We should be able to store our luggage at the hotel in Manhattan until we are ready to leave the evening of 9/9.  There is a Hotwire 3* for $151 at LGA which has:

    Free internet

    Airport shuttle

    Fitness center

    Restaurant

    Business Center

    Self service laundry

Any guess as to what hotel that would be?

What do you think about re-strategizing to include a move for the last night??

    Thank you!!

  3. I apologize for the delay in responding and thank you for the insight.  Decided to do NYOP for both legs of the trip.   I will use this thread for my strategy for the 1 night of Sunday, 8/31.  I think since it's just the one night on this leg of the trip and it's a slow time, I will try for a nicer hotel for this one.  Maybe $200 max and what star level do you think that we could get with that max bid?

And I will definitely use the links for my bidding. :)

    Thanks!!

  4. It's been a while since I've bid on Priceline and feeling a little overwhelmed over whether to try the NYOP route or a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal.  First time in NYC and planning to do all the "touristy" things, so looks like any of the centrally located Manhattan zones would work.  (Any thoughts about that appreciated)  But I've never bid on a city with so many zones....and this expensive!  We are planning to walk and take the subway everywhere.  Of course, I know that the only thing guaranteed in a PL bid is double occupancy in the  zones selected at a certain level....but the top of our "wish" list would be a room with a good view of the city.  Really not picky about even as low as a 3 star as long as it's not a zone where one comes up often that is notoriously on everyone's "bad list".  There will be two different stays - August 31 for one night (then a five night cruise), then another four nights beginning Sept 6.   Are there any typical Express Deal hotels where guests typically get a room with a good view?  I do have cancellable back-ups booked for both stays - Hilton Garden Inn Midtown East for the Aug 31 stay at $149 plus tax;  Hampton Inn in Financial District for Sept 6-10.  It has rates varying from $194 to $350 for a total with tax of $1281.  Probably not the most ideal location, but we are doing Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, etc. so it's close to some of our intended destinations.  Thanks for any insight!

  5. Success! Decided that Convention Center zone and 3.5 instead of 4 would be okay, so I bid....

    Downtown at $60 - rejected

Added Convention Ctr - $65 - got upgraded to 4* for Hilton Riverside

In hindsight, it might have been better to bid Convention Center zone first, but still pleased with the deal. We've stayed here before & it's a very nice hotel. Thanks to all that helped! :)

I'm sorry - I don't know how to change the original thread title to indicate this...can someone please tell me how or an admin change it for me?

Editing to note that I did use the PRICELINE link.

  6. superk4: $110 - yikes! Wonder if the problem is that it's close to Mardi Gras?

Romelle: There was a successful bid of $73 (for Intercontinental) that included those dates, but it was posted in Oct. of last year. There was also a January 3* French Quarter for $50 (Holiday Inn), so I might look at expanding my bid to that zone and level. If anyone has any insight on pros & cons of 3* in FQ, please chime in.

As far as Hotwire, it shows a 4.5 star for $92 and a 3 star for $72 on those dates in the Downtown area. Do I need to try to find out what hotels that would be for? I'm not very familiar with Hotwire. If I need to check anything else, just let me know. Thank you for your help!

  7. Hello!

I bid today for New Orleans Downtown 4* arriving 3/16 & departing 3/18 with following bids:

    Downtown $55

    Added Garden District $60

    Added Metaire $65

    Added Airport $67

    Added East $70

    Added West Bank $75

Didn't even get an offer to up my bid to a certain amount for a win. Any suggestions on trying a different strategy tomorrow? Is the lockout time still 24 hours? Sorry it's been a while since I've used PL and even longer since I didn't get a hotel on the first day. I did use the PRICELINE link above.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
