I booked 4* New York City (Madison Square Garden - Hell's Kitchen) The New Yorker Hotel Ramada Plaza for $125 (plus taxes) using HOTWIRE link.

Did you phone them... what options are they offering?

Yes, they offered a replacement hotel (4 choices) and I chose Times Square - Theatre District (239$) and got Crowne Plaza Times Square - They credited my account with hotdollars to cover the extra before processing the new creditcard payment. Quite good deal I think.
