  1. Is the merchandising show 1/10-1/20 OR are these the dates of your stay... or both?

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

The insane snow and ice ruined this show, my boss ended up booking something with his rewards points, thank god, b/c all the hotels were overbooked and I heard PL even moved people from one hotel to another (example, W buckhead people were moved to W perimeter --- ouch!)

  2. This would likely be the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, a HI that was renovated not that long ago. Nice property, but in a rather out-of-the-way location. It's about a 15 minute walk E to Michigan Ave.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for your advice aaron, turned out things were too expensive for this stay. I didnt end up getting a room.

  3. There's a big merchandising show in the middle of Jan (10th - 20th) and while I see many 4* in downtown or midtown for around $50/night on this forum, I've already been rejected for $70. I remeber last year I had to bid $94 for a 3* in Buckhead, I waited till the last minute. This year I'm coming with a different plan.

Can you help me with a bidding strategy? WOuld you recommend breaking up my bids into 2 stays?

  4. I didnt see this in the FAQs, so I thought I'd ask.

If I'm going for a long stay in a city (let's say, 15 days) am I better off splitting my bids into 3 reservations of 5 days each? (I understand I may not get the same hotel). I'm wondering how much I can save $ by avoiding weekends, etc. Wasnt sure about this, never stayed more than 4 days before (using PL).

    Appreciate the help

Do you see anything on HOTWIRE within your budget? And please remember to search for 3 guests. You can get a diffrent result when searching for 2 guests.

    Yellowdog.

There is one hotel for $99.

3* Mag Mil Area - Streeterville

    -fitness center

    -pool

    -restaurant

    -business ctr

    -laundry

    -high speed internet

    4/5 trip advisor

Again, i've never done hotwire or even researched it, so appreciate any help you can give!

  6. Please follow-up your previous Priceline Chicago thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above.

It would be appreciated if you shared your wins with the board so all members could gain from the information :)

Always follow-up your threads with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancel your trip, etc.

    Yellowdog.

No Problem, I just updated it. I never got a hotel from that bidding. It went way our of my price range (I was shocked after seeing so many good wins on here). This is becoming the same. I see people who have gotten 4* at $49 for the same area and weekend I'm going. I have been unsuccessful bidding on 4* and 3.5* on priceline up to $83 ($100 after tax per night).

I need anywhere in NMA/MagMile or Loop

Never tried hotwire but if there's a 3 person option 3* or up for less than $100 (after tax) I'm in. Thank you for your help

  7. As the subject states, I have used PRICELINE tons of times, but never HOTWIRE. I am considering it because this trip we have 3 adults (parents and brother) and wanted to make sure there was enough sleeping quarters. Priceline obviously does not do this and supposely HOTWIRE does. So I come to this board for advice. What's the best price I can do on a 3*+ the weekend of 6/25-6/27? If we can narrow down to a few specific hotels (i know the area well) that would be helpful. I just dont understnad how HOTWIRE works yet, I'm so brainwashed by PRICELINE:)

    Thanks

  8. I ended up deciding on Kensington zone and got it for $84 (started at $70 w/ $2 increments)

    10-21-08 to 10-27-08

Got the copthorne tara. They gave me a room with 2 beds, i asked if I could get one queen, after 2 nights a room with a queen opened up and I enjoyed that the last 4 nights. Overall very happy with the hotel, priceline, and of course BETTERBIDDING

    Thanks Thereuare!

  9. I need a hotel fri/sat (oct 16-18) in Chicago River North / Mag Mile

I have never used free re-bid zones (i understand how they work - i think. i read the thread on it)

I would like to keep my price under $90

It must be in this zone.

Thank you so much, I will use the PRICELINE links on this site

    -Hubie

PS - is there a lincoln park zone? I dont see any priceline hotels for this zone on this website...

  10. If you want to try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID i would go thru each bidding cycle using the following date combinations:

    10/21-10/27

    10/21-10/26

    10/22-10/27

    10/21-10/25

    10/23-10/27

    10/21-10/24

    10/24-10/27

Would the Kensington zone work for your plans at all?

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

Thereuare, sorry, my email subscription to this thread went into my yahoo spam mail.

Do you think splitting up my stay will get me better rates? I am young and able and certainly willing to move to a different hotel once during my stay. Especially if it can save me a bundle of cash. Please let me know any strategies, as this vacation is coming up fast!

Kensington might work for me...i just need to be by a tube stop somewhere near the middle of the city.

You think splitting up those dates

  11. I'm not having much success. Am I at a disadvantage b/c I need 6 nites, where most of the people posting on this board only need 1 or 2? Am I better off bidding for 3 nights and another 3 nights?

    Here's where i've left off:

    Mayfair-Soho and Bloomsbury - 3* - $120 - REJECTED

How much higher do I need to bid? Obviously no one really knows, but i thought i'd be able to at least get a 3* in bloomsbury for $100 or less (according to the PL maps).

Am I better off with hotwire? I've never used hotwire, so i'm unfamilliar...

    Thanks folks (and thereuare) :)

  12. Sorry for the double post - i'm new here and forgot where i had originally posted.

I was planning on using that strategy above in POST 4 but was actually wondering....should I just start by choosing BOTH neighborhoods and bidding every 24 hours? I feel like doing this will almost guarantee I'm going to end up in Bloomsbury, right? Mayfair is more expensive for all stars...so if I'm simply bidding with both checked, i'll almost always end up in bloomsbury, right?

  13. Here's the deal: I need a hotel in London 10-21 to 10-26.

I am WILLING to stay in Mayfair/Soho or Bloomsbury

I PREFER Mayfair/Soho, and am willing to pay a little more

Ideally, I dont want to pay over $100 (in bloomsbury). I would pay up to $125 for Mayfair/Soho.

Any strategies? Do I even have a shot at this? Does the fact I need the room for SIX nights help me at all? (It's just me, I can take the smallest room possible.)

Much thanks if you can help me, I will use the PRICELINE link from this site
