  1. Update: The pillowcases were dirty (makeup stains and gray streaks on 3 of them) and the sliding bathroom door falls open about 4 inches (there's no lock or latch). Guy that came to change the pillows out says they have this problem "all the time"  when they come back from the laundry and the sheets are "probably clean." I definitely don't recommend this property and really wonder how the reviews have been so high.

  2. I ended up using a Priceline Express Bid to get the other two nights at the Crown Plaza HY36 (same property I won for Thursday-Sun in the previous thread) for $457.00/night so that we're in the same place the whole stay. Unfortunately, I wish I hadn't. Loud a/c, we look out on a roof with spotlights on it so the curtains have to stay closed, and it's a two double bed room. The hotel itself is nothing special. I'm not sure what the raves were about, but I'm hoping maybe it looks better in the morning.

  3. Nope, not able to get through checkout. It takes me to Priceline's page, which says I just missed it and proceeds to display a listing for a 3.5* TS property at $308 with no amenities. Clicking it gives a similar "We're sorry. This property is no longer available." message. Not sure what's going on but it appears they're both ghost listings.

  4. Ok, was just getting ready to book the 3.5 Times Square on Hotwire for $344 and spotted a 3.5 on Priceline for $312. No amenities listed but it says it's rated 8/10 and is 50% or more off and suggests the Element NY TS West, the Hilton Garden Inn TS Central, Staybridge Suits TS, or Ac hotel by Marriott TS. I checked the list but didn't see anything with no amenities listed. Thoughts on this property?

  5. Thanks for the quick response! The Belvedere would be my failsafe. Long Island City doesn't appeal. I was thinking maybe a couple of days in Brooklyn or something like that, but rates there are just as high, if not higher.

Re: The Tryp vs The Belvedere. With The Belvedere's resort fee of $23ish it's pretty much dead even financially. I'm going to do a little more poking around and will make a decision tonight and post the results. Thanks for your help!!

  6. This is a follow up post to:

4.5* New York (Madison Square Garden - Convention Area) Crowne Plaza Hy36 Midtown Manhattan

TL/DR: Flying into LGA at 10pm Tuesday and need a last minute strategy for two nights until HY36 reservation.

    • Would like to be under $300 and 3.5*
    • Both nights will be late, exhausting ones so needs to be easy to get to getting LGA (Tuesday night) and MSG (Wednesday night)
    • Am open to staying and exploring a totally different area of the city from the TS/HK area I'm familiar with if it's close to a subway station and less expensive than the TS/HK area.
    • Need advice from those of you that really know the city!

  7. JUMPED and got the Crowne Plaza HY36 for 3 nights @ 281 minus 5% discount. I'm thrilled! And, I believe I remember from browsing other threads that there is no resort fee on this one, either, but if anyone knows differently, let me know. For last minute, I feel great about this deal!

Now on to Tuesday and Wednesday... I checked just to see if HY3 had rooms for Wed night with a cheapo stay near LGA on Tuesday, but no go. I think I got the last one for Thursday, too! I'm really pretty open. I haven't stayed anywhere in NYC other than the Hell's Kitchen/Times Square area, so I'd be open to 2 days in an area with lots to explore that's further out. Worst case scenario, I'll bite the bullet and pay to stay somewhere familiar, but I'd love to keep costs down as much as possible. Appreciate any feedback!

  8. Hi there--

I have a last-minute trip to NYC coming up this week. I booked flights about 15 minutes ago and am scrambling to figure out hotels. Our flight on Tuesday 10/23 gets in at 10pm AND I've noticed that hotel prices are considerably higher Tuesday and Wednesday night, so I considered splitting up my hotels and doing 2 nights somewhere less expensive and then the remaining Thurs-Sat nights closer to Times Square or Midtown West/HK, which is where I'm familiar with staying and would like to be (always bought with help from BB!). Here are some add'l details:

    • Would like to be a minimum of 3.5* and above. For context, during previous 4-5 day trips I've stayed at the Row NYC and at The Belvedere and loved my stays at both. I also stayed one night at the Doubletree Times Square West, which was fine for what it was.
    • I've only ever done Hotwire purchases, but would be open to Priceline
    • We're flying into LGA late Tuesday night. I thought about staying cheap near the airport, but that's fine for one night - not sure I'd want to do it for two. Maybe somewhere else nearby?
    • We have an event at Madison Square Gardens on Wednesday night and on Saturday night.
    • Other nights are flexible, but we'll likely do a lot of Broadway, including standing in line for rush in the mornings, so from probably Thursday on, easy walking distance to theatres is key
    • I'd love to figure out a way to be under $300 for Thursday-Saturday, but $350 looks a bit more likely. I'm hoping to offset that by being even less expensive Tuesday and Wednesday somewhere else.

Any help is appreciated, especially given the last minute nature. I'm continuing to do research using BB, so I'll update if I find anything that seems like a winning combo.

  9. Thanks for the quick reply! As always, I appreciate your help. Based on reviews, the Paramount doesn't look like a great hotel. Here's what I'm looking for:

Under $225 (Row NYC, where I've stayed before, can be booked prepaid around this amount, so it would have to be a better hotel under this amount to make it worth it)

Prefer Times Square South as I'm traveling on my own and have stayed in this area multiple times.

Would also consider Times Square North and Midtown West

Queen/full bed is fine. No other specific needs.

I assume most of the hotels in the area will charge the $30 facilities fee, like Paramount and Row do, but if someone else knows better, that could be a price factor.

  10. Any guesses are appreciated!

  12. Hi again--

After yet another date change, we finally booked our trip. Despite the date change, all the details matched the first one on the list that you guessed as the Belvedere, downgraded to 3.5 stars. You were, in fact, absolutely correct!! Very happy with the win. Thank you for your patience and help. Really cannot say how much I appreciate all the time that you all spend. You helped us a year and a half ago to book an awesome stay for our first trip to Broadway and we're looking forward to an equally fabulous trip in March!

    Edited to add details - didn't realize they didn't display - 3/24-3/28 3.5* Times Square South - $147 = Belvedere

    Thanks again!!

  13. Yes, I'm looking to book as soon as possible. Wasn't thrilled with the single option that I saw last time (the one that was potentially the Tryp), but am sure one of the 3 possibilities that I posted will fit our needs, as outlined below.

Looking for times square south in the 3/17-3/22 time frame, 1 room for 1 adult and 1 13 year old, under $175 (but the $178 is close enough).

Thanks again for your ongoing help!

  14. Hello again! A couple of new options have surfaced in my search. Same parameters, just ones that weren't there a couple of days ago - and more expensive, of course. As before any help identifying is much appreciated.

  15. Hi again and thank you for the help so far.

New dates: 3/17-3/22 (again could adjust by a day or two either way if that makes a difference in costs; didn't seem to using bidding helper)

    2 people: 1 adult, 1 child (13)

    Like Time Square South/Theatre District

Appreciate any help identifying hotels below or any other suggestions for a good deal!

    Hotwire Easy View

  16. Hi there,

Looking to travel to NYC 2/13-2/18 (though flexibility in dates by a day or two, if it makes a difference in hotel and flights). Looking for Times Square/Theatre district. Searched using BB links Hotwire Easy View and found the following:

    Times square north 3.5* $108

Internet access, Fitness center and more...

FULL AMENITIES: Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

Could this be the Row NYC? Booked it through here in July 2014 and was very happy with room, service and proximity to Broadway and Hell's Kitchen. If not, what do you think?

Another possibility was a Priceline Express Times square theatre $109 4* no amenities listed but said bed choice avail.

One final one in a slightly different area. might be worth a longer walk if it's a great hotel. Spotted when I clicked the wrong area in Hotwire Easy View.

    Rockefeller Center 4.5* $128

Amenities Include: Internet access, Fitness center, Business center and more...

FULL AMENITIES: Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

Any help is much appreciated!! I'm also open to other thoughts in the same price range and area. First preference is proximity to Broadway and Hell's Kitchen (where we loved to eat) but I could be swayed to be a bit further away (10 min walk or so) by a great deal on a great hotel.

    Thanks again!

  17. Back again. Hopefully I am correct to continue this question in the same thread instead of creating a new post on Hotwire.

    Considering a Hotwire 3.5* @ $118/ night in Times square/theatre

Free Internet, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Business Center, Internet access, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility

Thoughts on what it might be?

Thanks again for your continued help.
