  1. Any up to date guidance re. getting Broadway tickets? We are looking for shows on two nights in September - possibly Promises, Promises and West Side Story

On our last visit 6 years ago we used Broadwaybox.com which is still active. I see there are other sites such as nytix that require a subscription and of course the TKTS booths (we always use the London booth in Leicester Square which is a similar concept). We are a bit cautious about using similar sites in the UK as some can be bogus.

Are we going to get a better deal in advance which are the best sites for this) or are we best waiting for the TKTS booth (happy to queue)?

Any recent feedback on places to eat - particularly seafood and steak restaurants? We did Grimaldis last time and may pay another visit.

  2. I have a result! (but you will need to move this back to the Priceline forum!)

With the Hotwire property MTC 3.5 star @ $266 a real possibility if I ws going to get this closed off this week end, I decided to go back to PRICELINE and bid on 3.5* in the hope I could shave a bit off the price (one last try).

The good news is I got the 3.5* Kimberley Hotel in MTE for $240 per night for 3 nights from 9/14 . Tripadvisor feedback looks encouraging.

Many thanks for all your assistance and guidance on this one. Looking forward to our stay in NYC.

  3. Unfortunately 14th September for 3 nights it has to be.

You were right .... but even worse, I bid up to $255 today for 4* with no success.

We will have to look at 3.5* (or even 3*) so can you help with a bidding strategy for this? Also I have posted on the Hotwire thread as an alternative ... hope it's OK to have 2 threads running.

  4. We have changed our plans to travel one week later and are looking at 14th September for three nights. I cannot change the thread subject and don't want to be misleading to others ... can the moderators do this for me or do you recommend I start a new thread.

Have just bid up to $200 for a 4* in the previously identified target zones and had no success. Looking at a successful thread around this time and taking into account your advice I accept this may be too low for September. I would be happy to up my next bid to $230 (still for 4*) if you think I would be nearer the mark, as I would like to finalise plans as soon as possible. Any thoughts?

  5. It has been a couple of years since I did any Priceline bidding? I need some bidding advice for a three night NYC stay checking in on 7th September 2010. Have previously stayed in Midtown so would prefer MTE or MTW.

Looking to try for 4* - is $200 per night viable? Would look at 3.5* if not.

Any of your usual excellent guidance would be most appreciated.

  6. Got no where with this to $225 a couple of weeks ago. Time to give it one last try?

I would like to stick to 4* with the $225 maximum - how do you recommend having another go, given that nothing seems to be happening under $200 ... if recommended I can go through a full bidding strategy as previously recommended to others but is this worth it .... shoul I start at $180?

Right now my securred Affina 50 booking looks good value and a good move!

  7. Once you secure the hotel thru GTA Hotels let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy to follow.

Been without a connection for three days!

OK - Affina is booked as suggested. Guess now I have a fallback position that is a good hotel I can relax a bit and try to get a bargain - and the terms did state cancellation up to 4 days. Taken decision for now to bid up to $215 .. is this a reasonable approach given I have a while before the trip? When is a good time to bid ... now or closer to March?

  8. If it were my booking i'd book it thru GTA Hotels (please use our link) as i seem to recall it's cancellable without penalty up until 4 days before your stay (confirm on the booking page). Then i would figure out how much i'd need to save to be happy with any 4 star property (ie- to land a 4* property for $10 less per nite wouldn't be worth it to me, to save $50/nite it becomes more worthwhile), and bid accordingly.

Sounds good advice to me - I also agree on the $50 ... there is a value in knowing where you are going if it is as good as it looks. We will look to doing this and will update the post accordingly.

  9. The Affina certainly looks a nice place with good reviews and for us, location is great as we are familiar with the area . We would be interested in this and I guess need to factor it into our bidding strategy.

Given it is three star at a price that is top budget for us, does this mean it will be a challenge to get 4* for around that price.

Any further advice before we start would be greatly appreciated as always.

  10. Yes - I wasn't sure how to word the title ... whether the dates are the nights I am staying or the check-in/check out dates. We will be checking in on 18th March and checking out on 21st March i.e. a three night stay.

Our plans are firm and flights have been booked. I will start bidding tomorrow (Friday 22nd when I have time to devote to a complete cycle should I not get an early hit).

I will give 4* at least a week of attempts if initially unsuccessful before I start looking at 3*.

I will keep this thread updated regarding my progress

    Thanks

    Peter

  11. OK initially looking for 4* for check in 18th March check out 21st March. Checked out the bidding strategy (refreshed my memory as it was a couple of years back I last did this) on other current posts in the forum.

Will include progressively include MTE, MTW,Times Square, UM/CPS and MTS. UES and UWS will be my re-bid zones. Starting at $150 bidding up progressively to $250.

I will keep trying at this for a couple of weeks and consider 3* if no result .... what bid amounts and increments do you suggest on 3*?

Finally and I know I asked this last time, I can't bid from the UK on Priceline.com .... how did I do it before?

  12. Time to plan a visit to see our Daughter again!

Looking for a room 3* or better in Tempe-ASU ... Mill area preferred. Location is important as we would prefer not to hire a car for whole stay and there is an excellent bus service in the Valley, although an alternative would be to hire car for whole stay if a great value hotel could be found.

Hotwire shows $124 for 3.5 Star Hotel in Tempe -ASU (Customer Favourite) for 10-16 March 2008. Any ideas?

Looking at other prices in this area recently this seems high. Just need a reasonable base to sleep as we will be spending most of our time out with Daughter before we drive up to Las Vegas (another separate post is pending!). Townplace Suites looks an option, although I said 3* .. she lives quite close by.

Any thoughts ... is this to early to book? We are constrained as to when to visit so we want to get a room reserved to know we have accomodation in the next two weeks.

  13. I guess we need to close this one off now we are back in the UK.

Unfortunately due to limited Internet access and lack of time we didn't see this one thorough and ended staying in a roadside motel :-( Also I read up on the non-US thread but Priceline UK only seemed to do European destinations - I am sure that I have used this to book New York before and will investigate further while still fresh in mind.

Our time in the US wasn't too well planned and resulted in us not getting the best accomodation - lesson learned here - plan well ahead (at least know the strategy we need to employ).

Anyhow, we still had a good time, although experiences of LA traffic were not a 'high point'!
