I will do that now and report what I find. Thanks for the help and I will use the links.
I have to correct myself. I bid up to $199 with no success. I did get an offer (not counter) just a you can book a room now for $286. I was bidding on a 4* with this last rejection. I can't remember if I ever tried a 3* in that area because I did trying bidding a couple of months ago. I don't want the Vatican but will look at that option as a laaaaast resort. I looked at Hotels.com, Expedia... and those rates for anything central were crazy. Does anyone know of a good site to book a cancelable reservation. I even emailed a small hotel I found in R. Steves book but no reply, rates were 120euro pn. The book stated if you don't get a response it means no rooms, I would still like to read SORRY NO AVAILABILITY but I digress. Thanks for the help!
I will be in Rome 10/24-28/2008. I want to stay in Central Rome. So far none of my bid have been accepted, obviously. I have gone as far as $169. I'm not panicked because time is still on my side but by end of June I will start to sweat. The Vatican zone was not really on my radar. Should this be an option for me? Thanks :)
Did you see my win? $130 in the Champs Elysees-Opera Quarter West zone. My dates are 11/3-7. I hope you win something!
Exactly, I realized that after the fact and when I tried to edit, I wasn't able to edit the Title just the body of the post.
Sorry for the delay. I believe I bid $68 and was rejected. Won $71
I have received that particular "mamas boy" email and I was turned off only because I thought it was stupid. I get the marketing ploy but the subject suggests that all bidders are male and I'm not. So when I read it I said to myself "no, I'm a daddy's girl!"
Won on first attempt $130. 11/3-7/2008. All in $570.
Won on first attempt. All in $435.
Started w/ $35, rejected. All in $187. 5/22-26/2008
I had booked 2 different hotels, 2 rooms at each, for 1 night each. Now one of the parties can't go because their teenage son got into a lot of trouble. We only need 1 of the rooms at both hotels instead of 2.Neither of the hotels would give us points or refunds because we booked through Priceline. We still haven't officially canceled the extra rooms yet, just started making calls.
I called priceline and of course their customer service lines weren't being answered.
Has anybody ever had success at getting a refund?
I know they charge $25 pn/per room to xcl.
I think it is located on the French side of the island as it has the name Sint Maarten
Sint Maarten is the Dutch side, Sint Martin is the French side :)
There's a big concert in town that evening! Regular rate is $319
I guess I didn't crack it yet, but I have never changed the zone that I want to stay in, i just change my dollar offer. I have never opened a new browser.
I don't care if a maid knows I left her a few bucks, I'll never see her again and if our paths did cross I wouldn't know her. You never really see the person cleaning your room.
I have been reading about rebidding techniques and I am less confused which is a good thing. I was wondering instead of adding a new zone when your original bid is rejected can you just select a lower star rating and bid outrageously low? For example:
I want downtown philly 4* for $60 pn I bid $60, it's rejected. Instead of clicking on a new area like airport or something I just change it to a 3* and then bid $10. That of course is rejected then I go back to 4* with a higher increment say $70. In the past when my bids have been rejected I NEVER changed the area (zone).
Thanks in advance for the insight.
Yes it is a prior win. My apologies.

Thank you for all of the recommendations. I was able to book a room at the Hotel Panda or Pensione Panda. It's very close to the Spanish Steps. The rate is 108 euro per night for a double room with private bath.
