  1. No, I honestly didn't expect prices to shoot up. I also didn't think about the fact that I probably could've cancelled that (I'm so used to buying things that are "pre-pay no refund").

Minivan is fine, we own an Odyssey. I've found a minivan on hotwire for right around $1k. I'm hoping to get as far under $1k as I can for ANY size SUV, or mini-van.

2 adults 2 children + luggage for four people

  2. I'm totally bummed, we just ironed out dates for our trip and rental prices seem to have skyrocketed. I looked on May 22nd, and through costco was able to find an intermediate SUV for around $300 (total). Looking now, they are around $2k. SUCKS!

Any advice on where to shoot for priceline?

  3. Finally - as of about an hour ago. Looking for 3 rooms, July 27th, 28th (2 nights) in the schaumburg area. Maximum bid - probably 60's or so? Like to get it as cheap as possible, probalby start around 30 or so. I see several wins around $30 in that area.

Also to follow up - PREFER not to get the sheraton - if that is a possibility perhaps hotwire is the better way to go...?

  4. We live in Indy and have some relatives coming up from AZ and MO and will be taking a trip to chicago.

I've used hotwire and/or priceline via this site a few times on past trips to chi-town so here I am again :)

Obviously this is a tourist type stay, so probably NMA/Mag Mile if we do downtown. We are unsure of whether we will do the downtown stay vs suburbs, but starting w/ downtown.

Looking for suggestions on a bidding strategy. Still waiting on budget but I'd imagine $100 + parking - but the lower the better obviously.

  5. Thanks for your help. Found out there is a Nurse's convention in town (wasn't listed anywhere I saw) which could be the reason for lack of rooms and high prices (everything seems to be booked at this point).

One question - on Quikbook, can I typically have the room charged to the card it was reserved w/? It is a company card and I won't have it on me. I can use my own - but our expense reimbursement process is not the quickest.

    Bid $235.

I did the above and it was a no go. Affina at $24 more per night - I am thinking it is worth it to stick with it (the affina that is)?

Since I did my reservation on Quikbook - will Affina have it in their system? I like to call and confirm before I leave.

  7. Thanks for the tips. I hope you make good money on this site cause you definitely help a lot of us save a lot of money.

I booked Affina as a backup using your link. Cancellation policy:

You must make any changes or cancellations with Quikbook up to two business days prior to arrival. Within two days of arrival, you must cancel with the hotel directly or be subject to a 'no-show' charge equal to the first night room rate plus tax. This hotel requires cancellation by 3:00PM, 24 hours prior to the day of arrival.

I'd say I'll stick w/ 4* I guess - see if we can beat it. I've already gotten approval for $250/night for two nights if necessary, so I'll use the Affina rather than HOTWIRE if I don't get a good deal on PRICELINE. Let me know what you think for the next several days to try.
