Visa & Mastercard while widely accepted in europe both charge a 3% foreign transaction fee in Europe and Believe me it all adds up especially when you are already taking a beating with the euro vs the dollar.
The only credit cards that DO NOT charge the 3% transaction fee is

Not a Bargain by anyone standards but for some reason just this particular weekend is very very expensive!! Ive been consistently trying for the past week with no luck when I finally had to go to $350 - I suppose that's what you get for booking a few days before going to NYC. At least its at the Hudson - I love this hotel though the rooms are tiny.
