  1. Tried first Downtown only at $40, declined.

Said if I added $12 to my bid I could try again, but I did not go that route.

    Added Brooks-Sheperdsville at $45, declined.

Added Louisville Southwest at $48, and finally "won" the Galt House.

We've stayed at this several times before via Priceline and the rooms are always great.

Need to note that I initially only bid on Saturday 9/26, however they offered me the opportunity to add another night after my bid for Saturday night was accepted. I then added Friday the 25th, too.

  2. I just wanted to add a note to this as I live in Louisville, and my husband and I got a room there via Priceline back in September for our anniversary (I think our winning bid was $45 or $47...can't recall).

The entire hotel went through a massive rennovation the last few years. Our room was great. HUGE king kind-of on the corner room, facing the west and ovelooking the Belvedere and we had a decent view of the river. Not too too far from the elevator.

  3. I was going to mention something about this...had no idea there was a thread this VAST over here.

I posted my recent Hotwire purchase "over there", too, as I really care about people getting the most for their money (I'm a cheapo, so I know others are, too). I guess they didn't like it that a Hotwire bid beat a Priceline one...so they deleted the post.

  4. I have probably done 20+ hotel stays (mostly just a night or two) between Priceline and Hotwire....and I've never done anything that I wasn't willing to eat it if something came up. If it was something that important, I wouldn't allow someone else to decide where I'm staying.

Not to be insensitive, but couldn't they have left the dog in the kennel at the vets while they went?

  5. It did say "Customer Favorite"

According to Westin's website...if you click on "Mandatory Fees", there is a $12 per night resort fee. I don't know if that is included or not. The Mandatory taxes are 10%.

I'm ignorant as to what Hotwire's take/fees is.

But this is the breakdown per my email receipt:

    Hotel

    1 room(s) @ $64.00 per night x 4 night(s) $256.00

Taxes, recovery charges, and fees $118.03

    Hotel subtotal $374.03

    Total $374.03

Some hotels may apply additional charges for incidental fees such as parking. Prices are in $USD.

  6. Hotel: The Westin Resort Hilton Head Island 4*

    Zone: Hilton Head Island

    Sub Zone: Hilton Head Island

    Price: $64/night

    Date: Sun 6/3 - Thur 6/7

Amenities: Resort, Beachfront, Oceanfront, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Spa Services, Children's Activity Program

Westin's website was $249/night. Travelocity was $249. Expedia $459 (not kidding)

Bidding Strategy: I had been looking at recent winning bids and ones from the same time frame last year. A few minutes before buying this hotel, I bid $60/night on Priceline for the Resort category, which was turned down. Then I tried Hotwire, and it showed the $64/night.
