You were right, it's the Conrad.  There will be 3 adults going and I noticed all the travelers photos show only one large bed.  I'm hoping they don't expect one of us to sleep on a rollaway.

Won this bid on 5/23/12. This will be my first stay in Jersey City to visit NYC. Hotel looks great and it seems like an easy commute to town.

Yes, John's is my favorite also. There are several locations but the original lacation is 44th St., right? All my local friends say it's the best. Single slice...cheese only...folded in half... makes me feel like a true NY'er.

Well, sadly all my attempts were futile with PRICELINE at bids up to $195.00. After a discussion with my friend and her uneasiness with Jersey City I checked again with HOTWIRE (thru these links, of course) and found a 3* for $195.00 near The Empire State Building for my dates 9-10 to 9-13. It was The Murray Hill Suites. Decent reviews and an added bonus...a KITCHEN! Nice LARGE rooms, too.

Feel free to move this to the Hotwire win list. I may be attempting the Jersey City hotels again for myself on 9-13 & 14 since I am considering staying an extra day or two. I'll start another post if I decide to do this.

One other thing that has me wondering.....

Hopefully this is not a confusing post but this has been the oddest bidding experience I've ever had on Priceline throughout the years. When I bid on a 4* hotel and adding my free re-bid areas the "search" for a hotel is LITERALLY 5-6 seconds long before the "Sorry, Try Again" screen appears. I am wondering if Priceline is even taking my bid seriously into consideration! :) ---- But, when I bid for the 3.5* hotels just moments later.... the usual 30-45 sec. "search" takes place. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes, I have thought about Jersey City. While I am perfectly comfortable with this area my friend is hesitant. She will be doing a great amount of shopping so wants the convienience of a nearby hotel. I thought NYC would be good for the weekend and Jersey City for a Mon-Tues option. I bid up to $120.00 with no luck. Again, this discouraged me since I saw previous wins for the weekend at $90-95.00.

I just wondered if my exact dates were the cause of this. I also noticed the following Sun & Mon(18th & 19th) there were winning bids of $185.00 at the Marriott Marquis.

I would love to change the weekend but I want to be in the city on the 12th for an event.

I may be accused of being a "profiler" but what I've noticed over the years is that a persons review seems to have a lot to do with where they come from. If they are from an affluent area they tend to grade harshly. I know this sounds like stereotyping but there seems to be a pattern. I also noticed some will post pictures of the most trivial things....a button left on the floor that wasn't vacuumed... a smudge on a lampshade... uneven wallpaper... Someone actually did that!! :)

I think the real travelers photos tell the truth...if you can get past the prissy nitpickers.

I can't say I am a newbie here but I need some advice on my recent bids. I have been trying for days to bid on a 4* (all areas) up to $190.00. Each night after these bids fail I have been bidding up to $180.00 on 3.5* in TS, MTE, MTW and Soho/Downtown (I excluded CPS for fear of The Hudson- too small for 2 people.) I noticed the calender of wins that The Millenium (3.5* in TS) went for $150.00 on two of the same dates I am bidding. I was hoping for something similar. I have even tried to split my dates ... to no avail. Is Mon. 9-12 the problem? Is the US Open games and the 9/11 Memorial booking up the city? Gettin' frazzled...

Started bid at $90 in MSG and was told to add $15 for a better chance of sucess. Declined and restarted bid with $95 and added MTE. Declined. Rebid $98 and added TS. Won Affinia Manhatten.

I think this is the lowest price hotel I've EVER won in NYC. Hope I'm happy with the room. :)

Stayed here in June '07 and LOVED it! Extremely comfortable beds and was lucky enough to get the 37th floor with an AWESOME view! Wish me luck this time, too!

After a little more searching and looking into other areas I found a 3* in St. Pete's Beach with a buncha' amenities at $65 a nite. I decided this was a decent choice. Since I have never dealt with Hotwire before (made SEVERAL purchases with Priceline) I began the process. At the bottom of the 'Continue" page I saw this notice:

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

This hotel typically charges all guests a resort fee regardless of how the room is booked. The hotel collects this fee of about $30 per room per night directly from you, so it won't show in your Hotwire

I see that the only other amenity it now lists is TENNIS.

Maybe I'm missing something but I do not see any hotels that list all these amenities under the pinned list in either Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater. Could it be one of the others that list most of them like Amerisuites?

My back up for the 17th to 20th is at The Envoy Club I booked thru' Quikbook's link I saw here. It is at $259 a nite. I booked it a day or two after losing the extended stay offer at The Hudson. I believe the remaining nights (at the Hudson) were going for over $300.

I've been bidding for these three nights since then. It's just frustrating seeing a 'win' on all the nights I want but unable to get a the nights combined while offering nearly $50 more!

Oh well. Live and learn. Next trip to NYC will be a Thurs. to Mon. excursion! :)

Well... here's my new dilemma and whiny complaint. :)

I think I already know the answer but I'd like to know if I'm correct.

According to the "Calender of Wins" feature the Hyatt has been won for $120 on 6/17, $120 and $148 on 6/18 and $148 on 6/20. I have bid 6/17 to 6/20 up to $200 and have gotten NOTHING!! My guess is that because the 17th to 20th is in the middle of the week Priceline doesn't 'give up' the hotel unless it's attached to a weekend (or at least closer to the weekend).

I have a backup booked (more $$ than I'd like to spend) so I guess I'm asking advice on what to do? Bid the 17th, 18th, and 19th by themselves and hope for the best or bite the bullet and keep the full price for the backup hotel?

Aha! I never noticed the star level changing as I clicked on areas before. Clever! When I had been going thru' the pinned list I was confused by the notation in parenthesis about the Elizabeth area being considered the same as the Newark Airport area.

I may play with this until a few days before departure. I have a back-up hotel I booked thru' Hotwire but it's $100 a night more than I got for The Hudson.

What the heck...I'm still bidding in NYC too. :)

The extended stay offer was denied.

I have always been bidding in the NYC area but after some research I have found that I would like to try the Jersey City area 3* hotels since the commute seems effortless. I'm really stumped as to what the re-bid area could be because it seems there are 3* hotels in all areas and I'm afraid I would wind up somewhere else. (Not good since I need to be close to the PATH)

I don't see people giving thier bidding strategy in the NJ forum like they do in the NYC forum so I resorted to posting here.... how do I bid to secure a 3* in Jersey City? It seems the Grand Hyatt is a big winner and I'd love to land my stay there. My dates are June 17-20. (3 nights)

Right now I have been placing one bid then waiting 24 hours and increasing by $5.00. I'm at $125.00 with still no luck.
