  1. That is a little more than expected. And the second room with 3 in it will be $169. So, based on the prices we could get in Old San Juan vs. the $115/ night for a 4* hotel, we've decided to go back to that. (Sorry about the waffling.)

The current Hotwire listing appears to be different than before. It does not list "Resort" in the amenities, but it does have the additional 15% resort fee in the fine print. Can you tell which Hotwire 4* this one is?

    - Beachfront

    - Fitness Center

    - Pool(s)

    - Restaurant(s)

    - Business Center

    - Tennis Nearby

    - Spa Services

  2. Returning from a cruise on the morning for July 5. Will be flying out very early morning on July 7. Not interested in a resort. Want to explore San Juan.

Yes. I see a 4* for $112/night. But, it also says in the fine print "This hotel typically charges all guests a resort fee regardless of how the room is booked. The fee is about 15% of your room rate, and they collect it directly from you, so it won't show in your Hotwire

  3. I don't see $115/night there now. What star rating is it? I went to the Caribe Hilton's website. They have an additional 14% resort fee posted there. I've seen that fee posted on some of the other Resorts on Hotwire. It would depend on the final price, but the hotel looks nice.

I did just get a Hotwire email update telling me that a 4* hotel has dropped from $115 to $97. But, that is in the Rio Grande - Humacao area, not San Juan. I'm not very familiar with Puerto Rico. Do you know anything about this area? What about the hotel?

-- Resort - Resorts offer......... Note: A resort fee may be charged.

    -- Beachfront

    -- Casino

    -- Airport Shuttle

    -- Fitness Center

    -- Pool(s)

    -- Restaurant(s)

    -- Business Center

    -- High-speed Internet Access

    -- Golf Nearby

    -- Tennis Nearby

    -- Spa Services

Can you tell which hotel this is? How can I tell if a resort fee will be charged?

    Thanks,

  4. I signed up with Wyndham by Request after making the Priceline reservation. That online sign-up included sending an email to any current reservations with my preferences - & my preferences included a king size bed. When I checked in, they apologized that they didn't have any rooms available with king size beds (so, they have the email). Not sure if he was telling the truth, but I didn't care much at the time 'cause I really didn't spend much time in the room anyway.

  5. :) SUCCESS! I'll be staying at The Wyndham Boston this weekend.

    -- Entered through SavingsBarn.com

    -- Bid $60 on 4* in Downtown-Charlestown zone - rejected

-- Added Medford and bid $65 - rejected

    -- Closed browser

    -- Re-entered through SavingsBarn.com

-- Bid $70 on 4* in Downtown-Charlestown and South Boston zones

-- Got an offer to resubmit current location & dates if I increased my bid by $22

    -- Closed browser

    -- Re-entered through SavingsBarn.com

-- Bid $76 on 4* in Downtown-Charlestown, South Boston and Medford zones

-- Accepted for The Wyndham Boston

    -- Final cost $76 + $17.47 = $93.47

    THANKS! :)

  6. :) What's your back up strategy? I proceeded exactly as you instructed, and my last bid of $65 was not accepted.

Is there still a way to get a 4* in my target price range?

(While it would have been real nice to have a 4* on my anniversary, we won't be getting there until late evening - after the concert. So, I am willing to be flexible about also considering 3*'s - although the Downtown-Charlestown District is still a must. I was just looking at the 3*'s in the area, and they're acceptable.)

    More advice?

  7. Thank you. I found the two rebid zones (Medford & South) that you indicated were available (currently). I have a few more questions, mostly out of curiosity...

-- I read about this elsewhere in this forum, but don't fully understand. Why do I close the browser after the $60 bid is rejected?

-- Just curious about the increments you chose. Starting w/ $55, then adding $5, then adding $2, then adding $3. Why?

-- What if after all that my bid is not accepted? I am not interested in staying in any other zone.

-- In general, is there any strategy in the timing of making the reservation closer or further away from the actual stay date?

Sorry about all the questions. But, I've always been fearful of this whole Priceline thing before. This is actually looking quite attractive now, especially with the information you are providing.

  8. I'm a total newbie to both Priceline and this Forum. There's a lot of info out there, and I'm not sure where to start, especially since that date is just over a week away.

On February 4th, my wife and I are attending the Billy Joel concert at the TD Banknorth Garden for our anniversary. I'd like to reserve a nice hotel nearby for just that evening. I want a hotel in the Downtown-Charlestown area so I don't have to drive after the concert.

Any advice on making this quick and easy for me to get a 4* that night?

    Thanks.
