Thanks to both of you for the info. I will definitely use the links here on betterbidding and I will report back with my results.
So what are the pitfalls and/or risks of renting a car on HOTWIRE of PRICELINE? I found a rental rate on HOTWIRE (after I clicked on the link at betterbidding) for Thrifty Car Rental (Denver Int'l Airport) and it was $20 cheaper per day than the exact same car size on the Thrifty website. I mean, if they're giving you the name of the rental car company, what's the catch? Seems to good/easy to be true. It's not like booking a hotel where you don't know the the exact name or location of the hotel - a standard size car is a standard size car regardless of the company, right?
Just booked my trip to Vegas on 6/6/12-6/9/12 using the HOTWIRE link at betterbidding.com
Hotwire was showing: Las Vegas Strip North area for $97 a night with the following amenities:
Resort
Free Parking
Casino
Fitness Center
Pool(s)
Restaurant(s)
Business Center
High Speed Internet Access
Golf Nearby
Tennis Nearby
Spa Services
Like many others, I was leery of booking on Hotwire because I don't like not knowing the name of the hotel. But thanks to my research of hotel zones and amenity sets on betterbidding.com, I was anticipating this hotel to be Treasure Island, and I was correct. I was looking at booking at Treasure Island anyway, but had I booked it through any of the other popular travel sites, it would have cost me more than $50 more PER NIGHT. So I am very pleased with the rate I got, and the $150 I saved. Have never stayed at Treasure Island before, but I'm looking forward to my trip, and I plan on trying the $20 trick at check-in in hopes of a free upgrade.
Thank you, betterbidding.com for this great resource! I will definitely use this site again for my future travels.

From the HOTWIRE link on betterbidding, I went ahead and booked a Hotwire hot Rate deal for $14.95 for a standard size car. Might have been a couple dollars less had I tried a bid on priceline, but I was pleased with the rate on Hotwire and I only need the car for 2 days, so another couple bucks a day wasn't worth the trouble. Rental company ended up being Alamo - haven't rented with them before, but I hope I have a pleasant experience.
Thanks again betterbidding!
