I started by bidding $50 for a 3.5 star hotel in the "Downtown" region. This was rejected, and they suggested going up to $63. I then bid $53, added "Madison South," and kept it at 3.5 stars. Rejected; suggestion of $63. I then bid $54 and added "Madison Southwest" and kept it at 3.5 stars. I won the Hilton! Also notable: when I searched for hotels for these dates on Priceline, selecting 3.5 star hotels, the Sheraton (an extremely regular Priceline NYOP hotel) didn't show up as having rooms available. At the same time that I bid, I checked Hotwire and believed the 3.5 Star Downtown hotel to be the Hilton, based on other posts in this forum. The price was listed at $65/night, and the amenities were: Indoor Pool(s), Airport Shuttle, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby Ratings: 95% like, 4.5 for everything: (overall sat, condition, quality of service, room comfort, room cleanliness, location) - these could change over time. So, I saved $$ by going with Priceline instead of Hotwire. For 3 nights-total costs: $232.85 - 194.76 = $38.09 savings with Priceline! I also booked a stay with similar techniques/results that I will put in another post.
