I used Priceline to bid on a 4 stars hotel in Vancouver B.C. and got a room for $70 US

My review:

Location: Excellent. Close to Canada Place. I really cannot be more pleased with the location.

Room: Well... I heard that most people using priceline got the room that faces the street, not the harborview. Yes, I got the street view. I could get an upgrade if I pay more at check-in time. No thanks.

The room itself was tired looking. We were on the 8/F facing the new Marriott across the street. We could hear the giant A/C unit from the new Marriott Hotel across the street. That whoosh.... sound was there the whole time. I guess you can call it 'ambient' noise. I just call it a noisy room. I stayed at the new Embassy Suite on Granville earlier this year. I have to say, the room at Embassy Suite was bigger, brighter, quieter, nicer all around. I paid $70 CAD/night full price thru the Embassy Suite website. If I have to rate the room, I'd give The Renaissance 3 stars, Embassy Suite 3.5 stars.

Facility and lobby: It does have a grand hotel feel in the lobby area. It doesn't really matter to me as I'm not hanging out in the lobby. Call me old fashioned, I'd rather stay in my hotel room and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are 2 free internet stations in the lobby for guests to use. Internet access in the room is available for extra charge.

I'm not sure I'd stay there again for $70. Embassy Suite is a better deal with free internet access and a nicer room.

The Renaissance really is not a 4 star hotel. The room (and bathroom) definitely does not warrant a 4 star rating. The only outstanding feature is the location. 3.5 stars the most.

Also, something was very strange. I wrote a review on the Priceline about my experience at the Renaissance after my stay. My review didn't make it to the Priceline website. Does Priceline screen review and only put up positive review there?
