AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. Is TS the only acceptable zone? Are you looking for $130 "all-in" (taxes/fees included) or $130 + taxes/fees? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Link to comment
jjpuppet
Around Times Square will go Empire State , Madison Sq garden and Eastside Midtown , Westside Midtowm. Im flexiable on the price, Id even do a 3 star in Times Square. Link to comment
thereuare
We can suggest a strategy for whatever you'd like, but at current rates i suspect your budget is likely going to be a light given current rates for these dates. If you're willing to accept a 3* hotel in the Times Square area you're likely looking at the $140-$160 area... a 4* hotel in a nearby area (any of the zones you mentioned) will likely run you in the $150-$175 range. Let us know your thoughts as to what you'd like to try for first and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. jjpuppet
Im going to try 140.00 ,want to keep the same areas but prefer Times Square....is it better to bid closer to my dates or start bidding right away. Link to comment
thereuare
Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, in the next week... it all depends if hotels get more/less new reservations/cancellations then expected. However, with a week to go i think that you're very close to arrival and not likely to see much movement in terms of rates, as hotels already have a very good idea of their occupancy levels, and while you are only focusing on these coming dates, hotels are already focused on the coming months (not the coming days). Even if hotels drop rates substantially there is little they can do to fill demand as most travelers already have their plans in place... and they figure they can make more money keeping rates high at this point to handle any last minute walk-in customers (who are not likely to walk down the block to see the price of the next hotel) or for business travelers who are usually price insensitive. In light of all of the above, and my previous comments, i don't think your budget of $140 will likely be enough at this point, so should you win at this price (or less) i think it would be a very good deal and worth locking in now. If you are ready to move forward, please confirm what you want to try for first... a 3* hotel in Times Square or a 4* hotel in one of the neighboring zones? (ie- what is more important to you... the star rating of the hotel OR being in the Times Square zone??) Romelle
Struck out so far, Going to go up to 150 and add cps tommorrow FYI - you can now bid every two hours. Romelle Link to comment
thereuare
NOTE that at the 4* level in the CPS zone is the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards). This property may or may not work for your needs, and although i still think $140 will not be enough for a 4* win at this time, i would make sure this this is acceptable before including this zone in your bidding. thereuare
For what star rating and zones? If the bidding above was at the 4* level you still haven't bid as high as we previously thought it would likely take ($175) and since then rates have moved higher. At the moment (depending upon zones selected) i think you're looking at $150-$165 at the 3* level and $180-$200 at the 4* level. thereuare
Was you're previous bidding up to $150 at the 3* level OR was that at the 4* level and given those rejections you're now looking at the 3.5* level (and haven't done any bidding at that star level yet)? What is your maximum budget at the 3* level? Which zone(s) are acceptable? jjpuppet
After continued bidding and failing, I noticed that the rooms were actually going up. Sacrificing the area for stars I took the 4 star PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for the financial district. It turned out to be the Holiday Inn for 160, I checked it last night and it went up to 202. Thank you for your help. Link to comment
thereuare
Congratulations on your success! Hope you're pleased with the hotel and deal you received. Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities that PRICELINE EXPRESS associated with this property and showed before your purchase. Also, while Downtown i recommend this place (it's a restaurant, not a 'slice' shop): Adrienne's Pizzabar 54 Stone St (212) 248-3838 ... stick with their 'grandma' style pie which is what they are most well known for, although i've had some appetizers and such which were also very good. Reasonable prices (by NYC standards) for the quality of the ingredients... although drink prices are high (like most of NYC) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
