Hello All,

We are from Europe and can't wait to visit the States in June.

The only downside is that the €  versus $ is getting worse everyday since we booked our trip it's already 36% less.

Great moment for you guys to convince your wives it's time to buy a German car I guess

Long story short, we need to book some hotels to keep things under control.

We are planning to stay in San Francisco 17,18 and 19th of June. We would like to stay somewhere near Union Square.

Has anyone an idea of what we have to bid for a 2* Hotel Priceline areas 1,2,3,4,9,12,13 are all fine.

Hope to hear from you.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Glad to hear you're excited for your trip... the US awaits your arrival. :)

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

Since the zone numbers will change any time that PRICELINE adds, removes, or renames a zone, please list your zones by name, not by number. I have re-listed below, please confirm that these are correct and your acceptable zones:

Civic Center South - Hayes Valley

Financial District - Embarcadero

Fisherman's Wharf

Japan Town - Civic Center North

SOMA - Moscone Center

Union Square East - Nob Hill

Union Square East - Nob Hill

If the zones above are correct, i think you're currently looking in the $100-$120 range for a 2* or better in one of the zones above... if you wanted a 3* you're likely in the $135-$150 area. What is your expected budget (per nite before fees/taxes) for this leg of your trip?

Thank you for your response!

To us, all the following zones are acceptable :)

Civic Center South - Hayes Valley
Financial District - Embarcadero
Fisherman's Wharf –  detail map
Japan Town - Civic Center North
SOMA - Moscone Center
Union Square East - Nob Hill
Union Square West

We have already lowered our expectations and we will settle for a 2* Hotel.

Our Budget is +/- 90$ -100$ per night is this realistic?

In which area/zone are some OK 2* hotels?

I was wondering if we have better chances if we bid for one day at a time or if it's better for all three days at once?

Can we expect better deals when we are coming closer to June?

We have a rental car where is it free and safe to park?

I hope you people can help us out!

Unfortunately, I think $90-100 may fall a bit short for these nights.

I'd bid all three nights together, as the only advantage to bidding separately is if there is a date that is substantially less expensive than the others during your trip.

There is no way to know if rates will come down between now and your stay. I think the issue becomes San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in terms of hotels in the US and demand has really ramped up for hotels there. I'd say there is a definite chance that rates could go higher.

I'm not familiar with the area, but unfortunately, parking is likely going to be expensive. I would be very, very surprised if there is any multi-day free parking.

What looks to be the Hotel Whitcomb (2.5* in the Civic Center South zone) is offered on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $116/nite... any interest in this property at this price, OR would you want to try bidding for the zones above at the 2* or 2.5* level? If trying to bid, did you want to increase your budget at all and did you want to first try for a 2.5* hotel up to your maximum bid or try for the least expensive 2* or better for this stay?

Lastly, if you're staying in a central location near a BART station, you could inquire how much long term parking is at the airport and leave your car there for the duration of your stay (and if you do this you can drop your bags at the hotel and have one or more people in your group check-in while only one person goes to the airport to park and commute back.. the entire group does not need to make the airport-->hotel via mass transit trip)

You an also search our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com to see if there is anything centrally located and within your budget thru traditional booking channels.
