carlm
Hello, I am new to Priceline- used it one time about 2 years ago so can't remember a lot! I need 1 hotel rooms from Feb 7th-9th in LA. I am going to an event at the Staples Center, so I believe my zone should be LA- downtown? I don't know if any other zones would be feasible. I've never been to LA before. The lowest I would stay is 3 stars. I want to save money but don't want to stay in a dump or an unsafe area. Help for bidding strategy/hotels would be appreciated!!! My friends are staying in Doubletree and paying $199/night. I'd like to pay less! Link to comment
AaronJB
What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay? Staying under $199 should be easy, with what appears to be the Westin Bonaventure for $121 (you may see a slightly different price) on Hot.wire for these dates. Additionally, we'd be happy to help your friends, as well - there's certainly cheaper rates for these dates showing on Hot.wire in the downtown zone. How many people are in your party? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
carlm
I don't really have a max budget, I just want it as cheap as possible! Knowing that full price is ~$199. Its just 2 of us in my room. Maybe if my bidding goes well the other people will cancel their hotel res and use priceline! Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding in Los Angeles you have the following number of re-bid zones available at each of these star levels: 4* - 4 re-bid zones 3.5* - 3 re-bid zones 3* - 1 re-bid zone If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. I would bid as follows: Select 3* Downtown... Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE Select 3.5* Downtown and re-bid zone (NOT the same re-bid zone you used above)... Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE Select 4* Downtown and re-bid zone (the one re-bid zone that you have not used previously)... Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120 If the above is rejected you can buy this 4* Downtown hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $125/nite. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Any questions, especially confirming your re-bid zones if you're new to the subject, feel free to ask. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
carlm
Thank you, yes I do have some questions, I'll copy your link and write my questions in another color: Select 3* Downtown...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...LAX East Inglewood (I am still bidding the same $80 that just got rejected since I added another zone right?)Bid $85 (do you mean if my $80 LAX East Inglewood got rejected?), if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE Select 3.5* Downtown and re-bid zone (NOT the same re-bid zone you used above)...If I am changing the star level from 3 to 3.5 why can't I just do downtown (you said AND re-bid zone)Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Culver CityBid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...WilshireBid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE Select 4* Downtown and re-bid zone (the one re-bid zone that you have not used previously)...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...ManhattanBid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...I ran out of zones nowBid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120 Sorry I am confused! thereuare
Select 3* Downtown... Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...LAX East Inglewood (I am still bidding the same $80 that just got rejected since I added another zone right?) Bid $85FIRST BID: $80 for Downtown only SECOND BID: $85 for Downtown and LAX East-Inglewood If I am changing the star level from 3 to 3.5 why can't I just do downtownWhen you bid on PRICELINE the star rating you select is the minimum star rating that you are willing to accept, and PRICELINE will always try to upgrade you (if possible) to a higher star rated hotel. So if you first bid 3* Downtown only, you have to wait 24 hours before bidding 3.5* Downtown only since they already checked 3.5* on your previous 3* bid (so by adding a new re-bid zone you're able to bid again immediately) I ran out of zones nowOnce you make the first bid with a new re-bid zones, all future bidding (when you add other re-bid zones) also includes this 'new' re-bid zone, thereby avoiding the future bids being treated as a duplicate. (if this last part is confusing think of it this way, you can re-use your re-bid zones at each star rating, but your first bid at the new star rating has to be a new re-bid zone that has not been used previously) Hope the above clarifies it a bit further, but if not feel free to ask additional questions and/or confirm the bidding strategy/zones before proceeding. carlm
Thank you for clarifying for me. I am still a bit confused on some parts. Even though you separated it by lines, I'm bidding the new rebid zone with the price UNDER it? Not on the same line? Select 3* Downtown...Bid $80,if rejected add re-bid zone...LAX East Inglewood and Bid $85,if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE Select 3.5* Downtown and re-bid zone (NOT the same re-bid zone you used above)...Manhattan and Bid $90,if rejected add re-bid zone...LAX East Inglewood and Bid $95,if rejected add re-bid zone...Wilshire and Bid $100,if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE Select 4* Downtown and re-bid zone (the one re-bid zone that you have not used previously)...Culver City and Bid $105,if rejected add re-bid zone...LAX East Inglewood and Bid $110if rejected add re-bid zone... Manhattan and Bid $115if rejected add re-bid zone...Wilshire and Bid $120 If the above is rejected you can buy this 4* Downtown hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $125/nite. Is this right? Am I associated the right step with the next bid increase? And did I choose all the correct hotels for only wanting 3+stars in downtown area? I'm so sorry I'm such a noob! carlm
Oh and when you type "use this link to re-access PRICE.LINE" it means close out of the current Priceline, click on your link and I can immediately bid again? No waiting period in these scenarios? Link to comment
thereuare
You've almost got it... but your re-bid zones are wrong. Manhattan Beach - El Segundo - Hawthorne offers 3.5* bidding so it is NOT a re-bid zone when you make your 3.5* bids. See if you can determine the correct re-bid zones, if not, try the following: 1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter your city and dates, and click "GO". 2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above. 4) post your findings and we'll take it from there Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
