kemartino
I'm taking my mom and sister to NYC for a girls weekend the first weekend in December. Questions: What would be a good area for a girls weekend? I'm thinking Soho, Chelsea area because they are more quiet and trendy spots? Also, if I bid via Price.line, is there a way to be sure I'll get 2 beds? Link to comment
thereuare
PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request (especially in NYC where hotels have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed and little/no space for a rollaways). If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE would still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc). You could also try PRICELINE EXPRESS and see if any hotels show a 'Bed Choice' option and then see if any of the choices offered are for rooms with two beds. You can use our BiddingHelper.com tool to search both PRICELINE EXPRESS and Hot.wire (as well as see regular 'retail' rates) all with one search. Do you have specific dates in mind? What is your target budget per nite (before fees/taxes) for this trip? What is the minimum star rating you're willing to accept? Let us know the information above and then we can start to consider zones that meet your star rating, budget, occupancy, etc. criteria. kemartino
Thanks so much for the info! The dates are Dec 5-8. Would like to spend under $300/night and also would like a 4 star if feasible. 3.5 star might be ok, but since it's a birthday celebration I want something nice :) Link to comment
thereuare
Searching HOTWIRE for 3adults i'm seeing: $292/nite in the MSG zone for what i'm guessing to be the Wyndham New Yorker $312/nite in the ESB zone for what appears to be the Affinia Dumont (very highly rated hotel with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating) On PRICELINE EXPRESS i don't see anything with a 'Bed Choice' that has two beds in the room (that would be better than the 4* ESB property above) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Your thoughts? EDIT TO ADD: based upon a recent post what i though may be the Affinia Dumont may actually be the Shelburne, which is another highly rated hotel in the city. kemartino
I ended up taking a bit of a gamble and bidding on Price.line even though it was risky that we might end up in a boutique hotel without 2 beds. I also was not super strategic in my bidding, I just wanted below the best price Hot.wire had to offer ($303/night). I won Sheraton in SOHO at $275 and that was my first bid! I'm happy with this, as I know they have 2 bed rooms available. Also, great reviews too. Link to comment
AaronJB
Congrats on your success. :) Nice win for this property and glad you are pleased with the result. If you do need two beds, I'd really recommend contacting the hotel to try to work that out in advance. Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay. Link to comment
