Priceline Hotel: 4* Las Vegas (Strip Vicinity South) Tropicana Las Vegas - a Doubletree by Hilton

I'll be going to Vegas on 11/10 - 11/16. I'm very familiar with bidding through Priceline. I do use the Better Bidding links in the Support page whenever I make a new bid.

 

I'll be splitting my stay to 11/10-11/13 (4 star) and 11/13-11/16 (3.5 or 4 star).

 

Hotwire has rates of $40 for the first leg and $73 for the 2nd leg (both 4 star).

 

My question is how much do you usually start bidding relative to the Hotwire rate? Should a 25% discount to the Hotwire rate be a good starting point or should I be more realistic?

 

FWIW, I bid $27 on the first leg and $55 on the second leg & both were rejected with no counter offers.

We'll use this thread for the first portion of your stay (11/10-11/13), please start a new thread for the second half.

 

If $27 failed, I'd try again at $29, then $31, then $33, then $35, although hopefully it won't take that much.

Is there a reason you're SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID 3nites/3nites... given how Las Vegas hotel rates are least expensive Sun-Thur and more expensive Fri/Sat nites, i better split (if your plans allow) would be 11/10-11/14 (and then the second stat 11/14-11/16)

Are you familiar with free re-bidding?  You only mention single bids, yet at both the 4* and 3.5* levels there are four additional zones that could be used for re-bidding.  

 

If you aren't familiar with the concept, it is described in the Tips and Tricks - Priceline area (or here is a direct link: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained)

Thanks for the responses. Below are my answers:

 

1. OK, I will use this thread for the first portion of my trip 11/10-11/13. Will create a separate thread for the 2nd portion.

2. I could not split it 11/10-11/14, then 11/15-11/16 because we will be away from Vegas on 11/14 (Grand Canyon) for the whole day.

3. Yes, familiar with free re-bidding, however for the 2nd leg of my trip I have to stay in the South Strip to be near family. The first leg can be either South or North strip (there does not seem to be a center strip in Priceline).

 

I'm still curious on how much of a discount Priceline can give us relative to Hotwire prices, and how much of a discount I should bid accordingly.

Bid $31 got a counter offer at $37

Added North Strip, bid $33, offer accepted!

Not clear... will you be sleeping in Vegas the nite of 11/14 or near the Grand Canyon?

It appears you'll be in Vegas (from your previous post suggesting that you would split the stay 11/10-11/13 and 11/13-11/16)... so why not check-out of your hotel room on the morning of 11/14 and check-in to the new hotel room when you return at nite on 11/14? If you're driving you can keep your luggage in your car... if not, leave it with the bellman of the hotel you're checking out of (retrieve it upon your return), or if time permits drop the luggage off with the bellman at your 'new' hotel and it will already be there when arrive later that nite.

It's up to you however you'd like to play it, but i think the 11/10-11/14 and 11/14-11/16 split makes more sense and would likely save you a little money based upon the price differences in occupancy rates for mid-week and weekend nites.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

We'll be taking a bus or van tour on the 14th (leaves at 7am and returns in the evening) so it would be really difficult to do everything necessary between 5-6 in the morning of the 14th. Thanks again for all the help!
