Priceline Hotel: 4* New York City (Midtown East) Intercontinental The Barclay

Am looking for NYC 7/4/14-7/9/14.

 

I'm open to most midtown locations, even willing to go upper city a bit.

 

Priceline has a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal, 4 Star / Midtown East (Pets, Business, Restaurant, Fitness) for $146... all in, -5%, 853.55 for the trip.

 

I'm assuming its the Intercontinental Barclay & it seems like a solid deal.

 

Question is - Book now, wait to see if it drops, or bid traditionally on a Name Your Own Price hotel? Do NYC prices tend to drop as you get closer to your stay date?

4-5 years ago, there was a lot more in the way of price declines closer to the stay. However, in the last few years traffic and demand has ramped up and there has been not only less in the way of last minute deals, but the risk of rates getting higher closer to the stay has gone up quite a bit.

Additionally, it's really not far until this stay as hotels go. In terms of "waiting until the last minute", this is effectively around "last minute", as I would guess the hotel is well aware of where they are at in terms of occupancy/demand for this period by now. You can guess/narrow down hotels via Price.line Express - if you bid, it may be a bit cheaper but you could wind up at any 4* in the zone, including the OneUN which gets fine reviews but is at the far E border of the zone.
