afoster770
We are going to be in San Fran on May 12-13 and will need 3 rooms. Do you have any advice on the best time to start bidding? Link to comment
thereuare
I'd start bidding as soon as your plans are firm, using the lower end of your expected bidding range, then as time goes on if you're not accepted, gradually increase the bidding amounts toward your maximum bid price. For more on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Once you're ready to move forward, let us know your desired star rating and acceptable zones, and we will advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. afoster770
I'm looking for 3 rooms for 1 night on May 13th. Fishermans wharf, union square and financial is what I've bid on so far. I've bid up to $105 for each area at 3.5* and 4* with. No luck. Any suggestions? Link to comment
AaronJB
Can you confirm your date/s? Your prior San Francisco Hotwire thread noted the night before (5/12-13). Is this an additional nite for the same trip OR do these dates replace that one? What would be your desired budget per room/per night for this stay? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
afoster770
We are only staying one night now, May 13. We would like to stay below $120-130. Thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
Since you've only changed your dates by one day, and no longer need the previous request, we consider this to be the same stay and have merged your two thread... please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread as it helps keep the board better organized and more useful for everyone. I assume by 'Union Square' you are bidding both USE and USW? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5 (in the sense that you want to first try for a 4* up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5* up to your limit) OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay/ Please confirm the above and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. afoster770
I actually don't mind going down to 3* if I need to, but I would like to stay within that budget. I booked a suite at Hotel Stratford as back up which has 1 queen and 2 doubles. With tax it will be $428 ($143/couple). I would like to try and get better rooms for the same price and with taxes and fees on priceline I think bidding up to $130 per room will be pretty close. So, in conclusion it is more important to stay within that budget than to be in a 4* hotel. And yes, by union square I mean both east and west. Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
Do keep in mind that PRICELINE rates The Stratford 1 star, so if you do long for something better and are unsuccessful up to $130, you may at least want to consider stretching the budget a little more if the extra money is worth the jump in star rating (as i do see 3* options at $135/nite and 3.5* options at $145/nite before fees/taxes) To begin, when bidding 3.5* in San Francisco you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 3.5* USE... Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* USW... afoster770
How long would you suggest I try this? So far I haven't had any luck. How should I bid for 3* hotels once I give up on the 3.5*? Thanks! Link to comment
AaronJB
Did you want to try moving a little higher to see if that will make the difference in getting a 3.5* or did you want to max at $130? afoster770
I'm sorry. I'm still new at this. I won the hotel by bidding on Price.line using the attached link from better bidding. I bid $135 on 3* rooms in USE, USW, and financial district and won this room. Link to comment
