Hello,

First post :) ....might have posted incorrectly (sorry ahead of time ;)

I am also new to HOTWIRE, PRICELINE, etc.....

I have a corporate account and usually stay in SPG hotels (gold status). However, I thought I would try my luck here and see what kind of deals I can get :)

The dates:

July 13 - 25

The reason:

mostly pleasure (ok - 98% pleasure :)

Seeking:

Mid Town East, Mid Town Central, Time Square (anything between the 40s to high 50s and anything from Times Square to Lexington avenue)....preferably higher end (4 stars or better)

The Budget:

up to $300.00 with taxes included (all in $300.00 so pretax around $260.00).

I found (on hotwire) a 4.5 star Midtown East with fitness center, restaurant, business center, high speed internet, and spa with 90% recommended by hotwire customer reviews. Any ideas on the hotel?

Also, if its ok :) I wanted to ask if you could suggest when best might be to book (if perhaps I am early since July is far off) and how (if possible) to obtain an SPG property (such as W Times Square, W New York East Side, or Le Parker Meridien, or (a dream) St. Regis :) Those are the hotels I prefer if that was possible?

I will most likely keep this post going as I am trying to find an all in rate of around $200.00 or better (this is what I am accustomed to with corporate rates or prior experiences on the hotels main page).

Cheers :)

Note that the MTE zone extends a bit beyond Lexington Ave. While all known 4* hotels are on the west side of Lexington, you could be the first to report a new hotel (or a previously reported hotel with a new star rating) to the East of Lexington.

Also, there is no "Midtown Central" zone on PRICELINE... if you're referring to MTW this zone too extends west of Times Square, are you comfortable with a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of this zone?

What about CPS and ESB?

The Benjamin has previously been reported with these amenities as the 4.5* level so that would be my best guess for this one.

See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in" link in our PRICELINE FAQ regarding when to bid.

You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

I read the PM and replied :) I am okay with beyond lexington, and agree, most 4* are west of lexington. CPS (Central Park South) = okay ; I have to check what ESB is :) Not really interested in the Benjamin - price would have to be better than the hotwire quote for me to budge on that. I have booked ahead using with my corporate rates to hold in W Times Square and W Lexington, so I at least have something in my price range, but I am sure (being dead of summer when I am there) that prices will be competitive on hotwire or priceline as time ticks on. I shall definitely be using your links to see if I can secure a great deal. I would like to proceed :) and will continue to search using the links you have provided when bidding. I will also report my success or closure of the thread once I have decided, but I probably will be a last second buyer (unless a great deal shows up between now and then).....Feel free to PM me if you see something in the SPG deals (or a hotel you believe has a high % chance of being one of the SPG properties I mentioned above in prior post) as that is what I seek.

Cheers,

Closing this post....I ended up finding a rate online for the w new York times square for July 14 through 25 for 212.....I contacted starwoods and used the best rate guarantee claim form and got 10% off (so room rate is 191.00)....I wanted starwoods hotel under 200 so I was satisfied with this rate....closing out the thread.
