Newbie (1/14)

  1. Accepted first bid of $75 - Also accepted earlier first bid of$80 for Sept 13-14
  2. Accepted first bid of $80 - Also got an accepted first bid of $75 for Oct 6-7
  3. Used the links from BB to bid on PRICELINE I started at $90 downtown and was refused and offered a chance to re-bid at $107. Declined and re-started browser adding zone 5 and raising bid to $92 which was accepted.
  4. This hotel was formerly called Berkeley Court Hotel NOTE – Actual bid was $80 + $5 in Priceline bonus cash and final nightly charge including tax/fees works out to be $90.52 This was for three rooms I have been bidding on Dublin since mid-May once or twice a week. I always bid $75 and $80 using two zones (1 & 3). I always bid zone 3 first because I see that most past 4* bids have been successful in zone 3 so I thought I would start there in the hope of a successful bid being as low as possible. I already was successful for Belfast from 9/21/12 – 9/24/12 at the 4* Holiday Inn for $75/night ($92.68 incl tax /fee) again for 3 rooms. This also included $5 bonus cash Final period I will be bidding for is again in Dublin 10/5/12 – 10/9/12. Hoping for lower rates by then.
  5. Thanks again for the help but back in March I did book the Ashling in Dublin for $112.80/night for Sept 18-21 and at $100.39/night for Oct 5-9 and it is fully refundable with at least 24 hours notice so I think I have that covered. I guess I just have to be more patient and maybe rates will come done closer to the actual dates. Regards, Ed
  6. Thanks for the response and help. My September dates are 9/18 - 9/21 and October 10/5 - 10/9
  7. For the last three months I have been routinely submitting bids for three 4-star rooms in Dublin in Sept and Oct. I saw from previous posted bids that 4-star typically go for $70-$80 but my high bids of $90-Sept and $85-Oct always fail. Is it just too soon or has the Dublin hotel market changed? Or does my need for 3 rooms really limit my chances? If it is just timing, any idea as to when I might start to expect success in this price range? Related question - I link to PRICELINE using the link from Better bidding but whenever I want to use Priceline's Bonus cash I need to log in to Priceline and reenter my trip info. Does Betterbidding still get credit for the link? TIA
  8. Yup Stayed there many times. Nice hotel for the price. The lowest I have ever gotten it for is $60 so you have not done too badly. Right on water, pretty good area of town. I always ask for room with water view and staff usually oblige
  9. Started bidding on Friday 10/6 $70 Vancouver $75 Vancouver + Surrey $77 Vancouver + Langley $80 Vancouver + Delta $83 Vancouver + Surrey + Langely $85 Vancouver + Surrey + Delta $87 Vancouver + Langley + Delta $90 Vancouver + Surrey + Langley + Delta Tried again on Saturday 10/7 $90 Vancouver --- Accepted
  10. Thereuare: Thanks for taking the time to field my query. the info was useful. I did eventually have to split my bid but at least I have a room, which at one point, was looking iffy given the convention trade that week. Priceline San Francisco Winning Bid Regards
  11. I was trying to book in the Union Square Embarcadero area, either a 4*(preferred) or boutique hotel for four nights, August 6 to 10. Over several nights, by using the combination of other areas that did not have either 4* or boutique I submitted many, many bids starting the 4* at $70 and going to $135 before switching to boutique. I then bid the boutique at $70, and, in $10 increments, from $90 all the way to $160 (!Remember this rate!) before giving up. I had checked a San Francisco convention site and knew that rooms were scarce. So then I tried just getting a room for the first two nights from August 6 to 8. I just tried boutiques at $90, $100, $110, finally succeeding with the Galleria Park hotel for $120 a night, total with tax and Priceline fee = $284 I clicked on the Priceline option to extend my stay to August 10 but this did not find any rooms available. Now here is the interesting part. I then went directly to the Galleria Park hotel site and tried to book a room for the two nights from August 8 to 10 and got the room at $118(plus tax) a night!!! and without the additional Priceline fee. Now I can accept that maybe the Priceline fee drove the hotel minimum rate above $120 and that is why no rooms were found when I tried the
  12. I will need to book into San Francisco every week from now until December. I see from a convention site that over this time there will be several large conventions in town. As I am concerned about availability and high rates I would appreciate any suggestions on the following: If my bids are failing is it likely that I might be more successful with my bid if I do it in two lots (e.g., Sunday to Wednesday and Thursday to Friday) instead of trying to get the full time in one hotel (I might be willing to put up with having to move hotels). In other words is a hotel more likely to accept my bid for fewer days than my usual block of 5 (Sun to Fri). If not I don't want the extra hassle of moving hotels. TIA, Ed

  14. I wanted the USE area and really wanted a 4* and but had to settle for a USE Boutique. First bids for 4* (all rejected) $70 - USE $75 - USE, Cathedral Hill $80 - USE, Civic Ctr $82 - USE, South SF $85 - USE, Cathedral Hill, Civic Ctr $90 - USE, Cathedral Hill, South SF $95 - USE, Cathedral Hill, South SF, Civic Ctr Dropped down to Boutique $70 - USE $75 - USE, Cathedral Hill $80 - USE, Civic Ctr $82 - USE, South SF $85 - USE, Cathedral Hill, Civic Ctr ACCEPTED From posted recent successful bids it looks like this is not such a great deal. Any advise on whether I might have snagged a 4* if I waited and rebid closer to my arrival date?
  15. Accepted on firts bid of $45. Again short of time and possibly could have gotten for less (maybe as low as $40 but still a savings over rack rate of $79)
