  1. Actual price was $53 + $5 bonus cash = $58. + Taxes + Fess of 16.37 (USD) Total Room Cost: $69.37 (USD) Started with $44 + $5 bonus cash = $49 for 3.5* for Mahwah - Nanuet (Woodcliff - Park Ridge) Priceline came back and offered $68 I rejected and added Mahwah - Nanuet (Mahwah - Ramsey - Allendale) area and raised bid to $53 + $5 bonus cash = $58 Original area accepted for 3.5* for Mahwah - Nanuet (Woodcliff - Park Ridge) for Hilton Woodcliff Lake :)
  2. Seems like a nice place, but I'm always afraid of winning this one because of the (gulp) $15 per day self parking fee. Anyone ever stay here and negotiate the fee?
  3. Just to follow up on our stay: The Palm Beach Shores Resort was pretty decent. One bedroom suite, king bed, queen pullout couch in living room. The reviews on Tripadvisor are accurate. They charge $6 / day for valet parking and $1/day for safe. It is a timeshare property, so no daily maid service. Overall, a little more than I wanted to pay, but $100 bucks a night for a beachfront hotel is good.
  4. :) Ugh, add a new "hotel" to your Priceline list, please: 3* Palm Beach Shores Resort & Vacation Villas 11/3 - 11/6 $80 + $10 Bonus cash = $90/day I started with Singer Island $60 + $10 Bonus cash = $70 Rejected Added Jupiter 70+10 = 80 rejected Added Central Palm Beach 80 + 10 = 90 accepted. Not exactly what I wanted. Sux that I wanted a hotel, and not a timeshare/hotel. I guess I have to make the best of it. I'm reading reviews now, and they're mixed. I couldn't use your links because of the bonus cash, which does not show up in my account / rewards. I'll getcha next time.
  5. Sorry, I forgot I inquired about this trip two months ago.....I finally booked the airline from LGA to FLL, now I'm ready to book the hotel. It looks like my chances for the Westin are low. Too much risk getting the Crowne Plaza, and I'm not keen on paying $20 bucks a day for parking for either one! I played around with Hotwire, and it looks like I could get the Westin Golf Resort for the last day of my stay 11/5 - 11/6 for $89. We drove by it last time, and it looked luxe! However, I'm not moving hotels during our stay, so that's out too. So, I've changed my search to try and get the FLL Hyatt Place Airport, or Summerfield Suites via Priceline. It's only a few miles from the beach, and free parking saves a lot. I'm traveling with my two teenage daughters, and we love Hyatt Place because it's enough room for dad and daughters. I've seen others get similar dates for $48 bucks, so how come my $60 bucks ($50 + $10 bonus) got rejected? I'm always suspect of Priceline's "bonus cash" deal...they could just reject your bid until your "real cash" = the price they want. I'm a little afraid of my Priceline rebid zones. Are we pretty sure that there is only a 2* in Pompano and no 3* in Hollywood? I'm using Hollywood as my re-bid zone now. I know you combined my posts, but it's really a different animal now. Last time, I made a small donation to betterbidding.com via Paypal through the "donate" link at the top of the page to thank you for all your help! I know this post is long, but I'm trying to get a big enough room and not get hosed! I'll probably try and re-bid on Priceline tonight @ 6 pm. Regards.
  6. I am hoping to get the Hyatt Place or Summerfield Suites in the FLL Airport area Dates: 11/3 - 11/6 I have $10 bonus cash available Started my bidding at $45 + $10 Bonus = $55, rejected Rebid adding Pompano (only 2 star per Priceline Hotel List $47 + $10 Bonus = $57, rejected Added Hollywood. No three star, maybe, according to the Priceline hotel list, there is a listing under Fort Lauderdale (Hollywood) 3* Holiday Inn (3* no longer offered in this zone) Bid $50 + $10 bonus = $60 and still rejected!! I see other have gotten this area for about $48 bucks for same dates. Am I doing something wrong?
  7. I may have answered my own question: Browsing Expedia, it looks like the 2.5 * might be the Ramada Hollywood Beach Resort. Some pretty poor reviews on Tripadvisor. It seems it might be a hotel / timeshare type property. Built in 1930's.
  8. Just browsing Hotwire for a possible trip from NJ Hollywood, FL - Thu, Nov 4 to Sun, Nov 7 I always wanted to stay at the Westin. This time, two additional hotels came up: 2.5-star hotel in Hollywood Beach $49 Beachfront Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Clicking the "See all" link show the above amenities plus: Kitchenette "We are still gathering reviews for this property" 2-star hotel in Hollywood Beach $79 Beachfront Smoke Free Rooms Restaurant(s) High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby "We are still gathering reviews for this property" I don't remember ever seeing other beachfront hotels for Hollywood Beach, now there are these two. Nothing is listed on the Hotwire Hotel List, except Westin & Crowne Plaza. A quick search of the board revealed nothing. Are these unreported yet? I just searched Hollywood beach for tonight (8/8/10), and the 2.5 star beachfront came up as $69. Any idea what the 2.5* is??
  9. If you want something unique, check this place out: http://www.utsnyc.edu/Page.aspx?pid=520 The Landmark Guest Rooms It's in the Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York They rent guest rooms for about $135/night. It's right around the corner from Columbia and Barnard. You would really get a feel for the Morningside Heights neighborhood by staying here. No real reviews online, you would be the first one. :) You have to call to reserve. I'll bet if they don't have a conference or something going on, and you told them your story, they would work with you.
  10. I've been trying for days to get this property. The problem seems to be that I was bidding on 3* hotels in Livonia. I even went as high as $50, but no go. (weird) I finally read through this board, and I bid on a 2.5 star: $33 + $10 bonus cash available if you have an Entertainment Book (needs card number, one time use) Accepted first shot with no rebid. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $33.00 Subtotal: $66.00 Taxes & Fees: $17.58 Total Charges*: $83.58 Hyatt Place Livonia Mon, Jul 5, 2010 / After 03:00 PM Wed, Jul 7, 2010 / 12:00 PM
  11. Looks like PRICELINE is very risky for State College, PA. Too many 2* hotels, and sorry to say that Toftrees gets pretty horrible reviews. I'd love to know what you think. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g5...nnsylvania.html Perhaps a warning in the Priceline hotel list might be warranted.
  12. Alright, I read through thousands (well, maybe 25) threads, and I see the pattern for Hollywood Beach, FL: Near Beach = Crown Plaza No Near Beach = Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa 3555 South Ocean Drive Hollywood, (on Beach) OR No Near Beach = Westin Diplomat Golf & Spa 501 Diplomat Pkwy Hallandale Beach (1.5 miles from beach, free shuttle) Looks like the properties merged and it seems you could be placed at either one, although if you booked in February, Hotwire had the near beach amenity listed, so you could complain and get the beach property, or 50% credit in future Hotwire vouchers (some lucky ones got both). Another sign for Westin versus Crown Plaza: After opening the details, above the map, I see "Traveler Rating provided by Tripadvisor." Seems that: 3.5 out of 5 = Crown Plaza 4 out of 5 = Westin Some report seeing a different metric: Recommended by 80% = Crown Plaza Recommened by 95% = Westin The Crown Plaza is not a good deal for my dates 4/5 - 4/7 because Hotwire wants $99 + $15 = $115, and the advance purchase rate at the hotel website is $139 anyway(with Priority Club points and everything else that comes with not booking through opaque sites). Good thing I don't have a job so I could take the time to do this. I'm still wondering about if they charged resort fees? Anyone?
  13. I just starting looking today in Ft. Lauderdale so I'm new to this thread about the Westin Diplomat. Looks like an awesome hotel! Two questions for those who returned: 1) Did they charge you a resort fee? What about parking? Resort Charge Policy If applicable to your group/convention rate, there is a $16 per night resort fee which includes daily use of fitness center, shuttle between country club and The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood, Florida, beach shuttle, local calls, 800 number access fee (first 60 minutes), domestic long distance call (first 60 minutes), High Speed Internet Access, in room coffee & daily newspaper http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/prope...propertyID=1402 2) I thought I read that hotwire took down the "Near Beach" icon. When I check today for a three night stay from 4/5 - 4/8, there is a 4* for $94 for Hollywood Beach area hotel with all the same amenities as before: Resort Near Beach Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Like I said, I'm new to the thread and I didn't finish my research, but if you know offhand, that would be helpful! The kids would love that place, and it's better than $100 bucks that the fleabag hotels are getting.
  14. I am traveling to Boston, so I started reading the news and I found this. I know it's not related to bidding, but it may influence your decision on which hotel to choose. There are protests and picket lines: More at: http://www.boston.com/business/gallery/hyattprotest/ When the housekeepers at the three Hyatt hotels in the Boston area were asked to train some new workers, they said they were told the trainees would be filling in during vacations. On Aug. 31, staffers learned the full story: None of them would be making the beds and cleaning the showers any longer. All of them were losing their jobs. The trainees, it turns out, were employees of a Georgia company, Hospitality Staffing Solutions, who were replacing them that day. The move to outsource the jobs of about 100 housekeeping employees at the Hyatt Regency Boston, Hyatt Regency Cambridge, and Hyatt Harborside at Logan International Airport is unusual in the hospitality industry, which counts on the housekeeping staff to help make sure hotel guests are comfortable.
