  1. The Hotwire description for Hyatt Place includes: Non-smoking, complimentary breakfast, fitness center, pool, business center, high-speed internet. Recommended in 90% of customer reviews. Actually I was expecting to get the Holiday Inn Express in Plano West - Frisco. Interestingly, I tried refreshing the Hotwire page immediately after I got the Hyatt Place room and an almost identical hotel description for the same $46 price showed up. It had the same amenities, but instead of the 90% review, it said "We are still gathering reviews for this property." Does anyone have any insight into what might be happening here? Are these definitely different properties because the customer rating indication is different?
  2. To follow up on diddiyo's question, I think what was being asked is if anyone has been charged an "extra person" fee for the third and fourth occupants of a room purchased through Hotwire, when the Hotwire purchase specified four occupants? It seems many Las Vegas hotels charge a per-person, per-night "extra person" fee for anyone beyond the second guest in a room, even when the room sleeps four. For a family of four, the extra person fee can add as much as $60-$70 to the daily room rate! The fine print on the Hotwire site indicates that hotels may charge their own fees (like resort fees) over an above the purchase made through Hotwire. Has anyone been charged "extra person" fees?

  4. Isn't all that moving around a bit of a hassle? I don't have much info on suites, but I have had a good experience with a winning bid for two rooms at the Nikko then calling the hotel and asking for adjoining rooms with the door between them. Nikko has a particularly sweet setup in which the two rooms don't have a door between them but instead have a small common hallway/mini-foyer arrangement in which occupants of both rooms first swipe their key to get into the common area, then swipe their individual keys to get into their respective rooms. Also the double/double rooms in the Nikko are quite spacious. Hilton and Parc55 double/double rooms are tiny. IMO Nikko is much nicer than Hilton or Parc 55. Maybe Hotwire would work better for you. Perhaps the more knowledgeable people here can comment...
  5. This is a list of the city-owned lots. There are a lot of other comparable or cheaper private lots (Ampco, California Parking, ProPark, etc.) in the area. I found the website for the Jones St. lot I mentioned above: www.parkforless.org. They say that their $20/day rate includes taxes! That may very well make it the cheapest lot in the area. Of course it is on Jones St - not the best area. I've never used the lot myself, may try it next time I'm up there. The Sutter-Stockton garage is in a good area, just a block up from Union Square.
  6. I'd like to offer a couple of corrections for the Monterey/Carmel area: 4* Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa is in Monterey (not Carmel) 3* Best Western Mission Inn and 3* Carmel Mission Inn are the same property - now called Carmel Mission Inn
  7. SF parking is pricey for sure. I usually use the garage at 415 Taylor just up the block from the Serrano - 24 hr garage, $30/day (includes all taxes) w/ in/out privileges. I think there is a garage a block over on Jones that is a couple of bucks cheaper, but I wouldn't use it if you need to be there in the evening. Jones and to the west and Taylor from O'Farrell/Ellis down to Market is kind of sketchy. Daytime is generally not a problem if you don't mind the usual urban grit.
  8. I see there are a couple of posts that show ideal examples of Hotwire and Priceline posts. It would be good to include those examples in the first post of this thread so that it will show up right at the top. Also suggest including the TripAdvisor info (Ex. "4.5/5 200+ reviews") - I found that to be really helpful in IDing a property. Thanks
  9. I got impatient and decided to pull the trigger. 3* Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville $102/night Suite, Complementary Breakfast, Fitness Center, Pool, Business Center, High-speed Internet, Kitchenette TripAdvisor 4.5/5, 240+ reviews Got the Homewood Suites on 4 E. Grand Ave. Very pleased! Lots of great info here, thanks everyone!

  11. Hi - This will be my family's first visit to Chicago, (2 adults, 2 kids, 7/19 - 7/24). I'm considering using Priceline to bid for a 4* room in the River North area. Once making a successful bid, what are your experiences with getting a room with two beds? I also took a look at Hotwire and found the following: 4.5* Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville $119/night Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, High-speed Internet Can anyone help with IDing the property? Thanks!
